  • In the case of immobilizing of glucose oxidase into polypyrrole (PPy) using electrosynthesis, the glucose oxidase (GOx) forms a coordinate bond with the polymer's backbone. However, because of intrinsic insulation and net-chain of the enzyme, the charge transfer and mass transport are obstructed during the film growth. Therefore, the film growth is dull. We synthesized the enzyme electrode by electropolymerization added some organic solvent, A formative seeds of film growth is delayed by adding the solvent. The delay is induced by radical transfer between the solvent and pyrrole monomer. In the case of adding ethanol, the radical transfer shares the contribution of dopant between electrolyte anion and GOx polyanion. This may lead to increase amount of immobilized the enzyme in ppy. However, adding tetrahydrofuran (THF), the radical transfer is more brisk, resulting in short chained polymer. Therefore, the doping level is lowered and then amount of immobilized of enzyme is decreased. For the UV absorption spectra of synthetic solution before synthesis and after, in the case of ethanol added, the optical density was slightly decreased for the GOx peaks. It suggests amount of GOx in the solution was decreased and amount of GOx in the film was increased. We established qualitatively that amount of immobilization can be improved by adding a little ethanol in the synthetic solution. It is due to radical transfer reaction. The radical transfer shares the contribution of dopant between small and fast electrolyte anion and big and slow GOx polyanion.

  • Photocatalysis is an environment friendly technique for degrading organic dyes in water. Tungsten oxide is becoming an active area of research in photocatalysis nanomaterials for having a smaller bandgap than the previously favored titanium dioxide. Synthesis of hierarchical structures, doping platinum (Pt), coupling with nanocomposites or other semiconductors are investigated as valid methods of improving the photocatalytic degradation efficiency. These impact the reaction by creating a redshift in the wavelength of light used, effecting charge transfer, and the formation/recombination of electron-hole pairs. Each of the methods mentioned above are investigated in terms of synthesis and photocatalytic efficiency, with the simplest being modification on the morphology of tungsten oxide, since it does not need synthesis of other materials, and the most efficient in photocatalytic degradation being complex coupling of metal oxides and carbon composites. The photocatalysis technology can be incorporated with water purification membrane by modularization process and applied to advanced water treatment system.

  • Mg and In co-doped ZnO (MIZO) thin films with transparent conducting characteristics were successfully prepared on glass substrates by RF magnetron sputtering technique. The Influence of different substrate temperature (from RT to $400^{\circ}C$) on the structural, morphological, electrical, and optical properties of MIZO thin films were investigated. The MIZO thin film prepared at the substrate temperature of $350^{\circ}C$ showed the best electrical characteristics in terms of the carrier concentration ($4.24{\times}10^{20}cm^{-3}$), charge carrier mobility ($5.01cm^2V^{-1}S^{-1}$), and a minimum resistivity ($1.24{\times}10^{-4}{\Omega}{\cdot}cm$). The average transmission of MIZO thin films in the visible range was over 80% and the absorption edges of MIZO thin films were very sharp. The bandgap energy of MIZO thin films becomes wider from 3.44 eV to 3.6 eV as the substrate temperature increased from RT to $350^{\circ}C$. However, Band gap energy of MIZO thin film was narrow at substrate temperature of $400^{\circ}C$.

  • Graphene, two-dimensional one-atom-thick planar sheet of carbon atoms densely packed in a honeycomb crystal lattice, has grabbled appreciable attention due to its extraordinary mechanical, thermal, electrical, and optical properties. Based on the graphene's high carrier mobility, high frequency graphene field effect transistors have been developed. Graphene is useful for photonic components as well as for the applications in electronic devices. Graphene's unique optical properties allowed us to develop ultra wide-bandwidth optical modulator, photo-detector, and broadband polarizer. Graphene can support SPP-like surface wave because it is considered as a two-dimensional metal-like systems. The SPPs are associated with the coupling between collective oscillation of free electrons in the metal and electromagnetic waves. The charged free carriers in the graphene contribute to support the surface waves at the graphene-dielectric interface by coupling to the electromagnetic wave. In addition, graphene can control the surface waves because its charge carrier density is tunable by means of a chemical doping method, varying the Fermi level by applying gate bias voltage, and/or applying magnetic field. As an extended application of graphene in photonics, we investigated the characteristics of the graphene-based plasmonic waveguide for optical signal transmission. The graphene strips embedded in a dielectric are served as a high-frequency optical signal guiding medium. The TM polarization wave is transmitted 6 mm-long graphene waveguide with the averaged extinction ratio of 19 dB at the telecom wavelength of $1.31{\mu}m$. 2.5 Gbps data transmission was successfully accomplished with the graphene waveguide. Based on these experimental results, we concluded that the graphene-based plasmonic waveguide can be exploited further for development of next-generation integrated photonic circuits on a chip.

  • The most general photocatalyst, $TiO_2$ and $WO_3$, are acknowledged to be ineffective in range of visible light. Therefore, many efforts have been directed at improving their activity such as: band-gap narrowing with non-metal element doping and making composites with high specific surface area to effectively separate electrons and holes. In this paper, the method was introduced to prepare a photo-active catalyst to visible irradiation by making a mixture with $TiO_2$ and $WO_3$. In the $TiO_2-WO_3$ composite, $WO_3$ absorbs visible light creating excited electrons and holes while some of the excited electrons move to $TiO_2$ and the holes remain in $WO_3$. This charge separation reduces electron-hole recombination resulting in an enhancement of photocatalytic activity. Added Ag plays the role of electron acceptor, retarding the recombination rate of excited electrons and holes. In making a mixture of $TiO_2-WO_3$ composite, the mixing route affects the photocatalytic activity. The planetary ball-mill method is more effective than magnetic stirring route, owing to a more effective dispersion of aggregated powders. The volume ratio of $TiO_2(4)$ and $WO_3(6)$ shows the most effective photocatalytic activity in the range of visible light in the view point of effective separation of electrons and holes.

  • Novel type $Li_{1.1}V_{0.9-2x}W_xMo_xO_2$ powders were prepared by a solid-state reaction of $Li_2CO_3$, $V_2O_3$, $WO_2$ and $MoO_2$ precursors in a nitrogen atmosphere containing 10 mol % hydrogen gas, and assessed as anode materials in lithium-ion batteries. The specific charge and discharge capacities of the $Li_{1.1}V_{0.9-2x}W_xMo_xO_2$ anodes were higher than those of the bare $Li_{1.1}V_{0.9}O_2$ anode. The cyclic efficiency of these anodes was approximately 73.3% at the first cycle, regardless of the presence of W and Mo doping. The composite anode, which was composed of $Li_{1.1}V_{0.75}W_{0.075}Mo_{0.075}O_2$ (20 wt %) and natural graphite (80 wt %), demonstrated reasonable specific capacity, high cyclic efficiency, and good cycling performance, even at high rates without capacity fading.

  • An attempting to produce a p-type diluted magnetic semiconductor (DMS) using $Ti_{1-x}Co_xO_{2-\delta}-based$ thin films was made by suitable control of the deposition parameters including deposition temperature, deposition pressure, and doping level using a pulsed laser deposition method. T$Ti_{0.97}Co_{0.03}O_{2-\delta}-based$ (TCO) films deposited at $500^{\circ}C$ at a pressure of $5\times10^{-6}$ Torr showed an anomalous Hall effect with p-type characteristics. On the other hand, films deposited at $700^{\circ}C$ at $5\times10^{-6}$ Torr showed n-type behaviors by a decreased solubility of cobalt. The charge carrier concentration in the p-type TCO films was approximately $7.9\times10^{22}/cm^3$ at 300 K and the anomalous Hall effect in the p-type TCO films was controlled by a side-jump scattering mechanism. The magnetoresistance (MR), measured at 5 K in p-type TCO films showed a positive behavior in an applied magnetic field and the MR ratio was approximately 3.5 %. The successful preparation of p-type DMS using the TCO films has the potential for use in magnetic tunneling junction devices.

  • Organic electronics are the domain in which the components and circuits are made of organic materials. This new electronics help to realize electronic and optoelectronic devices on flexible substrates. In recent years, organic materials have replaced conventional semiconductors in many electronic components such as, organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs), organic field-effect transistors (OFETs) and organic photovoltaic (OPVs). It is well known that organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs) have many advantages in comparison with inorganic light-emitting diodes LEDs. These advantages include the low price of manufacturing, large area of electroluminescent display, uniform emission and lower the requirement for power. The aim of this paper is to model polymer LEDs and OLEDs made with small molecules for studying the electrical and optical characteristics. The purpose of this modeling process is, to obtain information about the running of OLEDs, as well as, the injection and charge transport mechanisms. The first simulation structure used in this paper is a mono layer device; typically consisting of the poly (2-methoxy-5(2'-ethyl) hexoxy-phenylenevinylene) (MEH-PPV) polymer sandwiched between an anode with a high work function, usually an indium tin oxide (ITO) substrate, and a cathode with a relatively low work function, such as Al. Electrons will then be injected from the cathode and recombine with electron holes injected from the anode, emitting light. In the second structure, we replaced MEH-PPV by tris (8-hydroxyquinolinato) aluminum (Alq3). This simulation uses, the Poole-Frenkel -like mobility model and the Langevin bimolecular recombination model as the transport and recombination mechanism. These models are enabled in ATLAS- SILVACO. To optimize OLED performance, we propose to change some parameters in this device, such as doping concentration, thickness and electrode materials.

  • The effects of Ti-silicide process on the electrical properties of an analog polysilicon capacitor were investigated. To improve the linearity with the applied voltage both electrodes, which are polysilicon in our device, should have almost same material properties. The doping concentrations of both electrodes need to be high and to have the similar levels. Voltage Coefficient of Capacitance (VCC) is one of the properties to represent the linearity of analog capacitor, and it is related with the material and the structure of capacitor. In this study, it was possible to obtain the lower VCC by siliciding the polysilicon areas of capacitor. This is due to the parasitic capacitance at the interfaces between silicide and polysilicons, resulting the decrease of unit capacitance. However, we assumed the creation of positive oxide charge near the lower polysilicon electrode during the silicide process.
