  • In H.264, three different data partition types are used, which have unequal importance to the reconstructed video quality. To improve the performance of H.264 video streaming transmission over IEEE 802.11e Wireless Local Area Networks, a prioritization mechanism that categorizes different partition types to different priority classes according to the calculated distortion within one Group of Pictures. In the proposed scheme, video streams have been encoded based on the H.264 codec with its data partition enabled. The dynamic scheduling scheme based on Enhanced Distributed Channel Access has been configured to differentiate the data partitions according to their distortion impact and the queue utilization ratio. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme improves the received video quality by 1dB in PSNR compared with the existing Enhanced Distributed Channel Access static mapping scheme.

  • Adaptive Multi-Rate Codec is one of the codecs which is used for making voice calls. It helps to connect people who are scattered in various geographical areas. It adjusts its bit-rate according to the user's channel conditions. It plays a vital role in providing an improved speech quality of voice connection in Long Term Evolution (LTE). There are some constraints which need to be addressed in providing this service profitably. Quality of Service (QoS) is the dominant mechanism which determines the quality of the speech in communication. On several occasions, number of users are trying to access the same channel simultaneously by standing in a particular region for a longer period of time. It refers to Multi-user channel sharing problem which leads to resource loss very often. The main aim of this paper is to develop a novel RSA - QoS scheduling algorithm for reducing the Resource Loss Ratio. Eventually, it increases the throughput. The simulation result shows that the RSA - QoS increases the number of users for accessing the resources better than the existing algorithms in terms of resource loss and throughput. Ultimately, it enhances the QoS in Mobile Networks.

  • IEEE 802.15.4 is a standard for LWPAN based on TDMA. IEEE 802.15.4 has not been used widely because of restrictions on the QoS, scalability, and reliability. IEEE 802.15.4 utilizes GTS for one-hop QoS transmission. However GTS is not an effective method to satisfy QoS in multi-hop environments. Currently IEEE 802.15.4e, an extended version of IEEE 802.15.4 MAC sub-layer, is being developed to satisfy more diverse performance requirements than IEEE 802.15.4. IEEE 802.15.4e provides muti-hop QoS transmission functionality and uses multiple frequency channels. In this paper, a multi-channel TDMA scheduling scheme is proposed to satisfy end-to-end transmission delay in IEEE 802.15.4e. The performance of the proposed scheme is evaluated using simulation.

  • For the flexible frequency utilization, cognitive radio technique has been prominently considered. The most important requirement in cognitive radio networks is to protect the communications of primary users. Spectrum sensing task by secondary users should be seriously considered in cognitive radio networks, since the spectrum sensing process makes their current quality of service worse. In this paper, we propose the channel sensing scheduling method that keeps the requirements for protecting the primary and guarantee the secondary user's quality of service as possible. The quality of service of secondary user is analyzed in terms of packet delay and loss while the protection-requirements in terms of sensing interval and sensing time predefined. In numerical analysis, we can get appropriate parameters which guarantee QoS in various environment. And simulation results show that this method can improve the performance, delay and the number of transmitted packets against consecutive sensing method.

  • Multiple-in multiple-out (MIMO) in long-term evolution (LTE) is an essential factor in achieving high speed data rates and spectral efficiency. The unexpected growth in data rate demand has pushed researchers to extend the benefits of multi-user MIMO. The multi-user MIMO system can take full advantage of channel conditions by employing efficient adjustment techniques for scheduling, and by assigning different modulation and coding rates. However, one of the critical issues affecting this feature is the appropriate estimation of channel quality indicator (CQI) to manage the allocated resources to users. Therefore, an accurate CQI estimation scheme is required for the multi-user MIMO transmission to obtain significant improvements on spectral efficiency. This paper presents overviews of multi-user MIMO in LTE/LTE-advanced systems. The link adaptation, scheduling process, and different factors that affect the reliability of CQI measurements are discussed. State-of-the-art schemes for the post-processing CQI estimation, and the comparisons of various CQI estimation schemes to support multi-user MIMO are also addressed.

  • Exploiting the energy-delay tradeoff for energy saving is critical for developing green wireless communication systems. In this paper, we investigate the delay-constrained energy-efficient packet transmission. We aim to minimize the energy consumption of multiple randomly arrived packets in an additive white Gaussian noise channel subject to individual packet delay constraints, by taking into account the practical on-off circuit power consumption at the transmitter. First, we consider the offline case, by assuming that the full packet arrival information is known a priori at the transmitter, and formulate the energy minimization problem as a non-convex optimization problem. By exploiting the specific problem structure, we propose an efficient scheduling algorithm to obtain the globally optimal solution. It is shown that the optimal solution consists of two types of scheduling intervals, namely "selected-off" and "always-on" intervals, which correspond to bits-per-joule energy efficiency maximization and "lazy scheduling" rate allocation, respectively. Next, we consider the practical online case where only causal packet arrival information is available. Inspired by the optimal offline solution, we propose a new online scheme. It is shown by simulations that the proposed online scheme has a comparable performance with the optimal offline one and outperforms the design without considering on-off circuit power as well as the other heuristically designed online schemes.

  • Due to the difficulty of coordination in the cellular uplink, it is a practical challenge how to achieve the optimal throughput scaling with distributed scheduling. In this paper, we propose a distributed and opportunistic user scheduling (DOUS) that achieves the optimal throughput scaling in a single-input multiple-output interfering multiple-access channel, i.e., a multi-cell uplink network, with M antennas at each base station (BS) and N users in a cell. In a distributed fashion, each BS adopts M random receive beamforming vectors and then selects M users such that both sufficiently large desired signal power and sufficiently small generating interference are guaranteed. As a main result, it is proved that full multiuser diversity gain can be achieved in each cell when a sufficiently large number of users exist. Numerical evaluation confirms that in a practical setting of the multi-cell network, the proposed DOUS outperforms the existing distributed user scheduling algorithms in terms of sum-rate.

  • In this paper, we propose a distributed user scheduling with interference-aware power control (IAPC) to maximize signal to generating interference plus noise ratio (SGINR) in multi-cell uplink network. Assuming that the channel reciprocity time-division duplexing (TDD) system is used, the interference channel from users to other cell BSs is obtained at each user. In the proposed scheduling, each user reduces the transmit power if its generating interference to other BSs is larger than a predetermined threshold. Each BS selects the user with the largest SGINR among users. Simulation results show that the proposed technique significantly outperform the existing user scheduling algorithms.

  • In this paper, the beamforming and user scheduling scheme for device-to-device (D2D) underlaying celullar networks with partial channel state information is investigated. In the proposed scheme, cellular users whose channels are nearly orthogonal to the channel between base station and D2D receiver are selected for unitary beamforming so as to minimize the interference to the D2D receiver. The interference caused by underlaying D2D communication can be minimized by reducing the D2D transmitter's transmission power. To enhance the cellular users' throughput further, we also investigate codebook generation method in which each code vector belongs to multiple unitary code matrices. From simulation results, we show that the proposed beamforming and user scheduling scheme mitigates D2D interference to the cellular networks and the codebook generation method improves cellular users' throughput.

  • A new multi-channel access scheme and the associated network architecture for a single-hop WDM local area network is proposed in this paper. The proposed architecture has Central Scheduling Node (CSN) for the transmission coordination among many users, which is one of the key issues in single-hop WDM networks. The data channels, source nodes, and destination nodes are selected at CSN in very simple menner. Our scheme can relive the control processing overhead at all nodes in the network which is caused in existing distributed scheduling algorithms. CSN is simple in the architecture can be implemented easily. in respect to the network performance, the maximum obtainable throughput is up to that of the ideal output queuing because of collision free scheduling. We use the MQMS (multi-queue multi-server) model for performance analaysis.
