This paper reports on the simulation study of gigabit-capable Passive Optical networks (GPON) using WDM focused on single light source per each channel, and proposes using 1550nm VCSEL for light sources. Proposed system uses high speed direct-modulated light sources, in which the merit is able to maintain a low loss. to support broad bandwidth, and to lower network configuration cost. We conformed simulation study on the transmission of the downstream 2.5Gbit/s, upstream 1.25Gbit/s, 622Mbit/s which was recommended by ITU-T G.984.1. We measured the transmission margin and examined the feasibility of proposed system.
The thermal-hydraulic transient analysis of the proposed CANDU-9 plant was peformed. Several major transients ore analyzed if they meet the heat transport system design requirements. The proposed heat transport system configuration and the preliminary sizes of system equipment are justified by analysis in terms of the fuel integrity and the high system pressure limit during transients. The compliance with AECB R-77 requirements for CANDU-9 reactor was estimated. The analysis results showed that for each postulated accident the peak pressure values in the reactor headers are within the acceptance criteria given in ASME code requirements and the fuel overheating is prevented. One pump start-up during the reactor start-up operation was analyzed to investigate the How reversal through the fuel channel, which is specific in the proposed CANDU-9 plant.

A study has been made on the hydrodynamic forces on and the motion response of a sliding block in a bay within the framework of linear potential theory. To simplify the problem, following assumptions are made : The configuration of the bay is a long channel with narrow width, constant depth and straight coastline. Incident waves are long compared to the depth. We applied matched asymptotic expansion techniques. The flued domain is subdivided into three regions ; ocean, bay entrance, bay regions. Boundary-vague problems are solved first in each region. Then unknown coefficients are determined by matching individual solutions at the intermediate region between two neighboring legions. It is found that the motion of the block is greatly amplified at the resonant frequencies, in particular at the quarter wavelength mode. We examined the mechanism of negative added mass, which results from the localized hydrodynamic resonance.
As the modernization of the nuclear instrumentation system progresses, research reactors have adopted digital wide-range neutron power measurement (DWRNPM) systems. These systems typically monitor the neutron flux across a range of over 10 decades. Because neutron detectors only measure the local neutron flux at their position, the local neutron flux must be converted to total reactor power through calibration, which involves mapping the local neutron flux level to a reference reactor power. Conventionally, the neutron power range is divided into smaller subranges because the neutron detector signal characteristics and the reference reactor power estimation methods are different for each subrange. Therefore, many factors should be considered when preparing the calibration procedure for DWRNPM channels. The main purpose of this work is to serve as a reference for performing the calibration of DWRNPM systems in research reactors. This work provides a comprehensive overview of the calibration of DWRNPM channels by describing the configuration of the DWRNPM system and by summarizing the theories of operation and the reference power estimation methods with their associated calibration procedure. The calibration procedure was actually performed during the commissioning of an open-pool type research reactor, and the results and experience are documented herein.
Electrode impedances are measured to quantitatively characterize the electrode-electrolyte or cell-electrode interfaces. In the case of high-density microelectrode arrays(MEAs) that have been developed for brainmachine interface applications, the characterization process becomes a repeating and time-consuming task; a system that can perform the measurement and analysis in an automated fashion with accuracy and speed is required. However, due to the large number of channels, parasitic capacitance and off-capacitance components of the switching system become the major factors that decreased the accuracy for the measurement of high impedance microelectrodes. Here we investigated the implementation of automatic impedance measurement system with analyzing the causes of possible measurement-related problems in multichannel switching configuration. Based on our multi-channel measurement circuit model, we suggest solutions to the problems and introduce a novel impedance measurement scheme using electro-mechanical relays. The implemented measurement system could measure |Z| < 700 $k{\Omega}$ of impedance in - 10% errors, which can be widely applicable to high density neural recording MEAs.

In this paper, microchannels for the flow control of two fluids with different volumes have been designed, fabricated, and verified. The dimensions of the inlets were determined based on the Stokes equation in order to realize that the flow of the two fluids meet at the same time, and to maintain a certain configuration when the flows passed through each inlet channel. The designed microchannels were confirmed using computational fluid dynamics simulation for the incompressible, Newtonian, and transient flows. In addition, a microfluidic system containing the designed microchannels was fabricated by soft lithography, and the pressure-driven flows of the two fluids were characterized by microfluidic experiments.

Indium-zinc-oxide (IZO) films were deposited at room temperature via RF sputtering with varying the flow rate of additive nitrogen gas ($N_2$). Thin film transistors (TFTs) with an inverted staggered configuration were fabricated by employing the various IZO films, such as $N_2$-added and pure (i.e., w/o $N_2$-added), as active channel layers. For all the deposited IZO films, effects of additive $N_2$ gas on their deposition rates, electrical resistivities, optical transmittances and bandgaps, and chemical structures were extensively investigated. Transfer characteristics of the IZO-based TFTs were measured and characterized in terms of the flow rate of additive $N_2$ gas. The experimental results indicated that the transistor action occurred when the $N_2$-added (with $N_2$ flow rate of 0.4-1.0 sccm) IZO films were used as the active layer, in contrast to the case of using the pure IZO film.

Flow analyses have been performed to investigate the uniformity of propellant flow through the fuel and oxidizer manifolds of a full-scaled gas generator for a pump-fed liquid rocket engines. Injectors were simulated as porous medium layers having equivalent pressure drops. The uniformity of propellants has been analyzed for 3 fuel rings and 3 injector head configurations. The mixture ratio distribution at the exit of injectors has been estimated from the mass flow rates of fuel and oxidizer. The best configuration of fuel ring and injection head was selected through these flow analyses.
$K^+$ currents play multiple roles in the excitability of dorsal root ganglion (DRG) neurons. Influences on these currents change the shape of the action potential, its firing threshold and the resting membrane potential. In this study, whole cell configuration of patch clamp technique had been applied to record the blocking effect of capsaicin, a lipophilic alkaloid, on the delayed rectifier $K^+$ current in cultured small diameter DRG neurons of adult rat. Capsaicin reduced the amplitude of $K^+$ current in dose dependent manner, and the concentration-dependence curve was well described by the Hill equation with $K_D$ value of $19.1{\mu}M.$ The blocking effect of capsaicin was reversible. Capsaicin $(10 {\mu}M)$ shifted the steady-state inactivation curve in the hyperpolarizing direction by about 15 mV and increased the rate of inactivation. The voltage dependence of activation was not affected by capsaicin. These multiple effects of capsaicin may suggest that capsaicin bind to the region of $K^+$ channel, participating in inactivation process.

In this paper, NUDFET(NonUniformly Doped Field Effect Transistor) is presented as an alternative which offers the possibility of reducing the power necessary to operate switching circuits without a substantial loss in speed. The purpose of this NUDFET is to modify the electric field profile in order to cause carrier velocity saturation to occur at a lower voltage than it would occur in the uniformly doped device of the same channel length. The more MESFET and NUDFET circuits are realized, the more accurate model ins the performance of these devices become required. Analytic model ins was replaced by numerical analysis because of the complexity of device configuration. In this paper, FEM is selected because of simpler local mesh refinement and smaller computer memory than FDM. For accurate analysis, this paper has applied the Scharfetter-Gummel(S-G) Scheme and seven-point Gaussian Quadrature rule to assembly of the finite-element stiffness matrices and right-hand side vector of the semiconductor equations.
