Social infrastructure facilities that have been under construction since the country's high-growth period are undergoing rapid aging, and safety assessments of large structures such as bridge tunnels, which can be directly linked to large-scale casualties in the event of an accident, are necessary. Wireless smart sensor networks that improve SHM(Structural Health Monitoring) based on existing wire sensors are difficult to construct economical and efficient system due to short signal reach. The LPWAN, Low Power Wide Area Network, is becoming popular with the Internet of Things and it is possible to construct economical and efficient SHM by applying it to structural health monitoring. This study examines the applicability of LoRa LPWAN to structural health monitoring and proposes a channel usage pre-planning based LoRa network operation method that can efficiently utilize bandwidth while resolving conflicts between channels caused by using license - exempt communication band.
The transmitted acoustic signals are severely influenced by multiply reflected signals from boundaries, such as sea surface and bottom in the shallow water. Very large reflection signals from boundaries cause inter-symbol interference so that the performance of the underwater acoustic communication is degraded. Usually, the waveform shaping filters are used to prevent the reflected signals under this kind of acoustic channel. Especially, the raised cosine filter is widely used, which can also be used to restrict the bandwidth of the transmitted signal. In this study, we evaluate the raised cosine filter for image data transmission in the shallow water, and propose a new modified raised cosine filter. The QPSK (Quadrature Phase Shift Keying) system is used for the underwater acoustic communication simulations with different distances and symbol rates. As a result, the bit error rate was reduced from the minimum 1.0 % to the maximum 32 %.

In this paper, we consider a system with massive user equipments (UEs) in a cell and assume path loss and Rayleigh fading channels between the base station (BS) and UEs. In addition, it is assumed that the system bandwidth consists of multiple identical frequency subchannels. Under such assumptions, we propose a channel state information (CSI) feedback scheme and a resource allocation scheme for non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) transmission in order to reduce the feedback overhead of CSI generated by massive UEs and to reduce the complexity of resource allocation. In particular, for the proposed schemes, we analyze the sum data rate achievable by massive UEs in a cell and the outage probability with which the UEs in a cell do not meet the target data rate. Through the simulation results, we show that the proposed schemes can provide the superior outage probability, although it degrades the average sum data rate.

Technologies for disaster management are highly sought areas for research and commercial deployment. Landslides, Flood, cyclones, earthquakes, forest fires and road/train accidents are some causes of disasters. Capturing video and accessing data in real time from the disaster site can help first responders make split second decisions which may save human lives and valuable resource destructions. In this context the communication technologies performing the task should have high bandwidth and low latency which only 5G can deliver. But unfortunately in India, deployment of the 5G mobile communication systems is yet to give a shape and again in remote areas unavailability of 4G signals is still severe. In this situation the authors have proposed, simulated and experimented a 4G-5G communication scheme where from the disaster site the signals will be transmitted by a 5G terminal to a nearby 4G-5G gateway installed in a mobile vehicle. The received 5G signal will be further relayed by the 4G-5G gateway to the fixed 4G base station for onward transmission towards the disaster management station for decision making, deployment and relief monitoring. The 4G-5G gateway acts as a relay and converter of 5G signal to 4G signal and vice versa. This relayed system can be further mounted on a vehicle mounted relay (VMR) as proposed by 3GPP in Release 18. The scheme is also in the same line of context with Verizon's, "Tactical Humanitarian Operations Response" (THOR) vehicle concept. The performance of the link is studied in different channel conditions, the throughput achieved is superb. The authors have implemented the above mentioned system towards smart campus networking and monitoring landslides activities which are common in their regions.

As wireless communication technology advances to ensure high accuracy and safety at high speeds, research and development of Visible Light Communication (VLC) technology has been accelerated as an alternative to traditional radio frequency (RF) technology. As the radio spectrum of RF communication becomes more congested and demand for bandwidth continues to increase, VLCs that can use unlicensed frequency band are proposed as a solution. However, VLC channels have broadcasting characteristics that make them easily exposed to eavesdropping and jamming attacks, and are vulnerable to MITM (Man-In-The-Middle) due to their line of sight (LOS) propagation characteristics. These attacks on VLC channels compromise the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of communications links and data, resulting in higher data retransmission rates, reducing throughput and increasing power consumption, resulting in lower data transmission efficiency. In this work, we model vulnerable VLC channels to analyze the impact of attacks and communications vulnerabilities by malicious jammers.

Phase coherent modulation techniques in underwater acoustic channel can improve bandwidth efficiency and data reliability, but they are made difficult by time-varying intersymbol interference. This paper proposes an adaptive equalizer combined with phase estimator which compensates distortions caused by time-varying multipath and phase variation. The experiment in the East sea demonstrates phase coherent signals are distorted by time-varying multipath propagation and the proposed scheme equalizes them. Bit error rate of BPSK and QPSK are 0.0078 and 0.0376 at 300 meter horizontal distance and 0.0146 and 0.0293 at 1000 meter respectively.

OCR(On channel repeater) provides the high frequency reuse efficiency for allocating frequency bands to repeaters because the frequency of input and output signals of OCRs is the same. However the oscillation probability of OCRs is high due to the same input and output frequency. In order to prevent a repeater from oscillating, we must keep the antenna isolation higher than the gain of the repeater with a some margin. In this paper we simulated the effects of the amplitude, phase and time delay of feedback signals (m the characteristics of non-regeneration OCR. Simulation results show that the highest probability of oscillation is occurred when the gain of a repeater is the same value of the isolation. From the simulation results, we know that the phase of feedback signals can be adjusted to reduce the possibility of oscillation if a non-regeneration repeater has a narrow operation bandwidth or a signal bandwidth is narrow. As the time delay increases, the probability of oscillation and the fluctuation of gain over a certain frequency band increase also. The effects of the amplitude and phase of feedback signals on S/N of 8-VSB signal for generation and non-generation repeater were tested. The measured results show that the set-top can receive 8-VSB signal when the received signal power is $17{\sim}18dB$ higher than the noise power. When the isolation is almost same as the gain of the repeater, then the set-top can not receive 8-VSB signals due to the oscillation of the repeater. And the phase of feedback signals affects S/N at the output of the repeater when the isolation is $11.75{\sim}13.75dB$ larger than the gain of the repeater. In this case the set-top can not receive 8-VSB signal of at $48^{\circ}\;and\;347^{\circ}$ of the phase of feedback signals. However the phase of feedback signals can not affect the S/N of 8-VSB signals of the generation repeater because of the demodulation and modulation process of the generation repenter. The set-top can not receive 8-VSB signals when the amplitude of feedback signals is $12.6{\sim}13.6dB$ larger than the wanted signal power at the input port of the repeater. It's because that the amplitude of feedback signals saturates the front end of the repeater.

In this paper, channel model and wireless link performance analysis for the short-range wireless communication system applications in the terahertz frequency which is currently interested in many countries will be described. In order to realize high data rates above 10 Gbps, the more wide bandwidths will be required than the currently available bandwidths of millimeter-wave frequencies, therefore, the carrier frequencies will be pushed to THz range to obtain larger bandwidths. From the THz atmospheric propagation characteristics based on ITU-R P.676-7, the available bandwidths were calculated to be 68, 48 and 45 GHz at the center frequencies of 220, 300 and 350 GHz, respectively. With these larger bandwidths, it was shown from the simulation that higher data rate above 10 Gbps can be achieved using lower order modulation schemes which have spectral efficiency of below 1. The indoor propagation delay spread characteristics were analyzed using a simplified PDP model with respect to building materials. The RMS delay spread was calculated to be 9.23 ns in a room size of $6\;m(L){\times}5\;m(W){\times}2.5\;m(H)$ for the concrete plaster with TE polarization, which is a similar result of below 10 ns from the Ray-Tracing simulation in the reference paper. The indoor wireless link performance analysis results showed that receiver sensitivity was $-56{\sim}-46\;dBm$ over bandwidth of $5{\sim}50\;GHz$ and antenna gain was calculated to be $26.6{\sim}31.6\;dBi$ at link distance of 10m under the BPSK modulation scheme. The maximum achievable data rates were estimated to be 30, 16 and 12 Gbps at the carrier frequencies of 220, 300 and 350 GHz, respectively, under the A WGN and LOS conditions, where it was assumed that the output power of the transmitter is -15 dBm and link distance of 1 m with BER of $10^{-12}$. If the output power of transmitter is increased, the more higher data rate can be achieved than the above results.

One of the existing terrestrial multi-channel DTV service frameworks, called KoreaView, provides four programs, composed of MPEG-2 based one HD video and H.264/AVC based three SD videos within one single 6MHz frequency bandwidth. However the additional 3 SD videos can not provide enough quality due to its reduced spatial resolution and low target bitrates. In this paper, we propose a framework, which is called a terrestrial multi-channel high quality hybrid DTV service, to overcome such a weakness of KoreaView services. In the proposed framework, the three additional SD videos are encoded based on an H.264/SVC Spatial Base layer, which is compliant with H.264/AVC, and are delivered via broadcasting networks. On the other hand, and the corresponding three additional HD videos are encoded based on an H.264/SVC Spatial Enhancement layer, which are transmitted over broadband networks such as Internet, thus allowing the three additional videos for users with better quality of experience. In order to verify the effectiveness of the proposed framework, various experimental results are provided for real video contents being used for DTV services. First, the experimental results show that, when the SD sequences are encoded by the H.264/SVC Spatial Base layer at a target bitrate of 1.5Mbps, the resulting PSNR values are ranged from 34.5dB to 42.9dB, which is a sufficient level of service quality. Also it is noted that 690kbps-8,200kbps are needed for the HD test sequences when they are encoded in the H.264/SVC Spatial Enhancement layer at similar PSNR values for the same HD sequences encoded by MPEG-2 at a target bitrate of 12 Mbps.

Various earth observation satellites need to provide accurate and high-quality data after launch. To maintain and enhance the quality of satellite data, it is crucial to employ a cross-calibration process that accounts for differences in sensor characteristics, such as the spectral band adjustment factor (SBAF). In this study, we utilized Landsat-8 and Sentinel-2A satellite imagery collected from desert sites in Libya4, Algeria3, and Mauritania2 among pseudo-invariant calibration sites to calculate and apply SBAF, thereby compensating the uncertainties arising from variations in bandwidths. We quantitatively compared the reflectance differences based on the similarity of bandwidths, including Blue, Green, Red, and both the near-infrared (NIR) narrow, and NIR bands of Sentinel-2A. Following the application of SBAF, significant results with reflectance differences of approximately 1% or less were observed for all bands except NIR. In the case of the Sentinel-2A NIR band, it exhibited a significantly larger bandwidth difference compared to the NIR narrow band. However, after applying SBAF, the reflectance difference fell within the acceptable error range (5%) of 1-2%. It indicates that SBAF can be applied even when there is a substantial difference in the bandwidths of the two sensors, particularly in situations where satellite utilization is limited. Therefore, it was determined that SBAF could be applied even when the bandwidth difference between the two sensors is large in a situation where satellite utilization is limited. It is expected to be helpful in research utilizing the quality and continuity of satellite data.
