  • Due to recent proliferation of the mobile shopping channels, customers increasingly tend to purchase using online channel while experiencing physical products in offline shops. This phenomenon requires traditional offline retailers to consider integrating online channels. In this study, we propose strategic options for the traditional offline retailers regarding the online channel integration, and provide corresponding decision models to maximize the expected profits. We also investigate how the strategic options vary with the product characteristics, by categorizing the products based on inventory cost, demand uncertainty, and fitness to the online channels. By analyzing numerical examples we illustrate how the best online channel integration strategy should be differentiated depending on the product categories.

  • This paper puts forward an advanced consideration on the design of scaled multiple-gate FET (MuGFET); the aspect ratio ($R_{h/w}$) of the fin height (h) to fin width (w) of MuGFET is considered with the aid of 3-D device simulations. Since any change in the aspect ratio must consider the trade-off between drivability and short-channel effects, it is shown that optimization of the aspect ratio is essential in designing MuGFET's. It is clearly seen that the triple-gate (TG) FET is superior to the conventional FinFET from the viewpoints of drivability and short-channel effects as was to be expected. It can be concluded that the guideline of w < L/3, where L is the channel length, is essential to suppress the short-channel effects of TG-FET.

  • This paper investigates on the use of constant-amplitude zero-autocorrelation (CAZAC) sequence for channel estimation in multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) system over indoor wireless channel. Since the symbol-length of the conventional 4-phase CAZAC sequence is short, there is a limitation to use it for MIMO system in multipath environments. An algorithm which generates longer CAZAC sequences is proposed to overcome that problem. Flexible symbol-length of 4-phase CAZAC sequences can be made by the proposed algorithm. Therefore appropriate symbol-length of CAZAC sequences could be utilized as preambles in accordance with the number of transmit antennas and channel condition. The effect of the number of CAZAC sequences for channel estimation is presented in terms of mean square error (MSE).

  • The present study investigates the lateral torsional buckling behaviour of pultruded glass fiber reinforced polymer (GFRP) simply supported channel beams subjected to uniform bending about their major axis. A parametric study by varying the sectional geometry and span of channel beams is carried out by using ABAQUS software. The accuracy of the FE models was ensured by verifying them against the available results provided in the literature. The effect of geometric nonlinearity, geometric imperfections, and the dependency of finite element mesh on the lateral torsional buckling were carefully considered in the FE model. Lateral torsional buckling (LTB) strengths obtained from the numerical study were compared with the theoretical LTB strengths obtained based on the Eurocode 3 approach for steel sections. The comparison between the numerical strengths and the design procedure proposed in the literature based on Eurocode 3 approach revealed disagreements. Therefore, a simplified improved design procedure is proposed for the safe design strength prediction of pultruded GFRP channel beams. The proposed equation has been provided that might aid the structural engineers in economically designing the pultruded GFRP channel beams in the future.

  • Ethanol often causes critical health problems by altering the neuronal activities of the central and peripheral nerve systems. One of the cellular targets of ethanol is the plasma membrane proteins including ion channels and receptors. Recently, we reported that ethanol elevates membrane excitability in sympathetic neurons by inhibiting Kv7.2/7.3 channels in a cell type-specific manner. Even though our studies revealed that the inhibitory effects of ethanol on the Kv7.2/7.3 channel was diminished by the increase of plasma membrane phosphatidylinositol 4,5-bisphosphate (PI(4,5)P2), the molecular mechanism of ethanol on Kv7.2/7.3 channel inhibition remains unclear. By investigating the kinetics of Kv7.2/7.3 current in high K+ solution, we found that ethanol inhibited Kv7.2/7.3 channels through a mechanism distinct from that of tetraethylammonium (TEA) which enters into the pore and blocks the gate of the channels. Using a non-stationary noise analysis (NSNA), we demonstrated that the inhibitory effect of ethanol is the result of reduction of open probability (PO) of the Kv7.2/7.3 channel, but not of a single channel current (i) or channel number (N). Finally, ethanol selectively facilitated the kinetics of Kv7.2 current suppression by voltage-sensing phosphatase (VSP)-induced PI(4,5)P2 depletion, while it slowed down Kv7.2 current recovery from the VSP-induced inhibition. Together our results suggest that ethanol regulates neuronal activity through the reduction of open probability and PI(4,5)P2 sensitivity of Kv7.2/7.3 channels.

  • Silicon carbide (SiC), one of the well known wide band gap semiconductors, shows high thermal conductivities, chemical inertness and breakdown energies. The design of normally-off 4H-SiC VJFETs [1] has been reported and 4H-SiC VJFETs with different lateral JFET channel opening dimensions have been studied [2]. In this work, 4H-SiC based VJFETs has been designed using the device simulator (ATLAS, Silvaco Data System, Inc). We varied the n-epi layer thickness (from $6\;{\mu}m$ to $10\;{\mu}m$) and the channel width (from $0.9\;{\mu}m$ to $1.2\;{\mu}m$), and investigated the static characteristics as blocking voltages, threshold voltages, on-resistances. We have shown that silicon carbide JFET structures of highly intensified blocking voltages with optimized figures of merit can thus be achieved by adjusting the epi layer thickness and channel width.

  • In this paper, the Walsh coded orthogonal training signals for 4 × 4 multiple input multiple output-orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (MIMO-OFDM) systems are designed and the channel estimation equations are derived as a closed form, taking account of the inter training signal interference problems caused by the multi-path delayed signals. The performances of the proposed channel estimation method are analyzed and compared with the conventional methods[9,14] by using computer simulation. The simulation results show that the proposed methods has better performances, compared with the conventional methods[9,14]. As a result, the proposed method can be used for MIMO-OFDM systems with null sub-carriers.

  • The size of a device needs to scale down to increase its integrity and speed. As the size of the device is reduced, the hot-carrier degradation that severely effects on device reliabilty is concerned. In this paper, sub-micron buried-channel P-MOSFETs were fabircated, and the hot-carrier effects were invetigated. Also the hot-carrier effect in the buired-channel P-MOSFETs and the surface-channel P-MOSFETs were compared with simulation programs using SUPREM-4 and MINIMOS-4. This paper showed that the electric characteristics of sub-micron P-MOSFET are different from those of N-MOSFET. Also it showed that the punchthrough voltage ( $V_{pt}$ ) was abruptly drop after applying the stress and became almost 0V when the channel lengths were shorter than 0.6.mu.m. The lower punchthrough voltage causes the device to operte poorly by the deterioration of cut-off characteries in the switching mode. We can conclude that the buried channel P-MOSFET for CMOS circuits has a limit of the channel length to be around 0.6.mu.m.
