  • In this paper the critical speed analysis and design sensitivity investigation are carried out with an APU(auxiliary power unit) gas turbine having a spline shaft connection. The DDM(direct differential method) is directly applied to formulate the critical speed design sensitivity problem of a general nonsymmetric-matrix rotor-bearing system. The design sensitivity analysis have shown that the critical speed change rate to the support modeling of the spline shaft connection point is extremely negligible, and thereby its design uncertainty is lifted. It has also been confirmed that the critical speeds up to the 4th are not sensitive to the design stiffness coefficients of 4-main bearings or supports, including two air foil bearings. Further, the critical speed change rate to the shaft-element length have shown quantitatively that the spline shaft has some limited influence on the 4th critical speed.

  • We investigated the change of several meteorological variables due to deforestation. We established two sets of automatic weather observation system: one on a hill where forest was destructed by lumbering (Point 1) and the other in a neighboring district (Point 2) of fairly preserved forest. The observations were continued for one year (2006. 12-2007. 12). In this study, we analysed the data observed for one week from the nea day after summertime rainfall. The results showed that the air temperatures of Point 1 were about $1.5^{\circ}C$ higher than those of Point 2 during the daytime. But there were small gaps between the two poults during the nighttime. The relative humidities also differed greatly between the two during the daytime. It was as high as about 10% at Point 2. The surface and underground (15 cm in depth) soil temperatures were also fealty different between the two points during the daytime. They were $3-10^{\circ}C$ higher at Point 2 than those of Point 1. And the gaps reduced drastically during the nighttime. The averaged soil moistures were 7.1% at Point 1 and 19.5% at Point 2 during the observation period, respectively. The differences of wind direction were small, but the wind speeds differed between the two points. The observed wind speeds during the observation period were roughly estimated to be about 0.5m/s at Point 1 and 0.3m/s at Point 2. The heat budget analysis was also performed based on the observation data.

  • Climate change scenarios are the basis of research to cope with climate change, and consist of large-scale spatio-temporal data. From the data point of view, one scenario has a large capacity of about 83 gigabytes or more, and the data format is semi-structured, making it difficult to utilize the data through means such as search, extraction, archiving and analysis. In this study, a tool for analyzing extreme climate events based on spatial information is developed to improve the usability of large-scale, multi-period climate change scenarios. In addition, a pilot analysis is conducted on the time and space in which the heavy rain thresholds that occurred in the past can occur in the future, by applying the developed tool to the RCP8.5 climate change scenario. As a result, the days with a cumulative rainfall of more than 587.6 mm over three days would account for about 76 days in the 2080s, and localized heavy rains would occur. The developed analysis tool was designed to facilitate the entire process from the initial setting through to deriving analysis results on a single platform, and enabled the results of the analysis to be implemented in various formats without using specific commercial software: web document format (HTML), image (PNG), climate change scenario (ESR), statistics (XLS). Therefore, the utilization of this analysis tool is considered to be useful for determining future prospects for climate change or vulnerability assessment, etc., and it is expected to be used to develop an analysis tool for climate change scenarios based on climate change reports to be presented in the future.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the status of urbanization of Namyangju-Si from 2001 till 2008, analyze the correlation of the change of surrounding land use according to the change of accessibility and analyze the correlation of the change of land use. Based on the result from correlation analysis, I simulated from the view point of interactions between agents of land use and transportation accessibility by using MAS. I tried to forecast, based on space, the change of surrounding land use caused by the change of accessibility. I conducted landscape analysis by using a land registration map. Also, I conducted GIS analysis statistical analysis simulation analysis of traffic data, land use data in order to analyze the correlation of the change of surrounding land use according to the change of accessibility. I could find out a certain pattern that new roads and railroads causes the within 500m adjacent land to change into urban land use, which led me to construct a system through which land use changing phenomenon can be expected according to the change of accessibility. It is expected that it can make the best use of selecting the location where new transportation facilities are constructed.

  • This paper analyzes the switching overvoltage occurred on 345kV underground power cable system as well as combined transmission system using EMTP. Cable length and closing time, preinsertion resistance have effect on switching overvoltage. Therefore, this paper analyzes the switching overvoltage occurred on conductor and sheath with change of those parameters. Specially, the cross bonding position becomes discontinuity point because of the difference between surge impedance of metal sheath and that of lead cable. Thus, the transmission and the reflection of traveling wave complexly occur at this connection point. According to these influences, voltage between sheath and earth as well as voltage between joint boxes rise. Time to crest point of switching overvoltage is longer than lightning overvoltage. Even though the voltage induced by switching surge is smaller than lightning surge, that voltage may have serious effect on the metal sheath. Therefore, this paper also analyses the reduction effect of switching overvoltage when the preinsertion resistance of circuit breaker is considered.

  • This study was conducted to characterize the discharge feature of pollutant load from the upper and lower watershed influencing on the water quality of South Han River using the empirical equation and Factor Analysis. The results of regression analysis between flow rate and pollutant load were as follows. In the streams of the upper watershed of South Han river, $BOD_5$ and $COD_{Mn}$ were increased as the flow rate was increased. Also, steep increases in SS and TP were observed with positive correlation with the flow rate while change in TN was slightly shown. On the other hand, in the streams of the lower watershed of South Han river, $BOD_5$ was negatively correlated with the flow rate, being decreased with the increase in the flow rate. However, changes in $COD_{Mn}$, TN, SS, and TP showed a similar trend with those observed in the upper watershed. With Factor Analysis of the water quality and various components, it was appeared that the flow rate, SS, and TP were significantly correlated each other and they were indicated as the principal component influencing on water quality in the streams of the upper watershed. In contrast, $BOD_5$, $COD_{Mn}$ and TOC were significantly correlated each other and they were included as the principal pollution component of the streams in the lower watershed. From these results, it was conclusive that the upper watershed of South Han River was mainly affected by non point source pollutants while the lower watershed was influenced by point source pollutants from the developed areas.

  • In recent, the various methods to predict the hydrological impacts due to climate change have been developed and applied. Especially the trend analysis using observed and future hydrological data has been performed than ever. Parametric or non-parametric tests can be applied for a trend analysis. However, the non-parametric tests have been commonly used in the case of trend analysis using hydrological data. Therefore, the two types of non-parametric tests, Mann-Kendall (MK) test and Spearman Rho (SR) test, were used to detect the trend in the observed and future rainfall data that were collected from the Nakdong River basin. Also, the Pre-Whitening (PW) and the Trend Free Pre-Whitening (TFPW) as the pre-process of the trend analysis were performed. Also, the result of trend analysis suggest that those pre-processes have a statistically significant effect. Additionally, the Sequential Mann-Kendall (SMK) was used to reveal the beginning point of a trend in the observed and future rainfall data in the Nakdong River basin. The rainfall patterns in most rainfall gauges using the observed rainfall show the increasing trend and the abrupt changes in the specific months (from April to May and September to October). Also, the beginning point of the trend is brought forward by several months when climate change is accelerated. Finally, the results of this study can provide the useful background for the research related to climate change and water resources planning in the Nakdong River basin.

  • PRAM (Phase change random access memory) is one of the most promising candidates for next generation Non-volatile Memories. The Phase change materials have been researched in the field of optical data storage media. Among the phase change materials. $Ge_2Sb_2Te_5$ is very well known for its high optical contrast in the state of amorphous and crystalline. However the characteristics required in solid state memory are quite different from optical ones. In this study. the structural Properties of GeSbTe thin films with composition were investigated for PRAM. The 100-nm thick $Ge_2Sb_2Te_5$ and $Sb_2Te_3$ films were deposited on $SiO_2/Si$ substrates by RF sputtering system. In order to characterize the crystal structure and morphology of these films. x-ray diffraction (XRD). atomic force microscopy (AFM), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and 4-point measurement analysis were performed. XRD and DSC analysis result of GST thin films indicated that the crystallization of $Se_2Sb_2Te_5$ films start at about $180^{\circ}C$ and $Sb_2Te_3$ films Start at about $125^{\circ}C$.

  • Purpose: The aim of this study is to compare the soft tissue changes of the midfacial area at the repose position and the natural smiling position for the improvement of evaluation and planning in the orthognathic surgery. Methods: The total of 30 subjects, 15 male and 15 female, were included in this study. The metal point landmarks were placed at the cheek, orbital rim, subpupil, and nasal base. The movements of the landmarks were evaluated at the repose position and smiling position in the lateral and posteroanterior cephalograms. Paired t test and correlation analysis were used for the evaluation of the soft tissue changes statistically. Results: In the lateral cephalograms, the cheek point (4.49 mm in female, 4.87 mm in male) showed the most distant movement. All points presented significant movements, except the orbital rim and nasal base point in male. Cheek point presented significant positive correlation between the horizontal and vertical change in male. Subpupil point presented significant positive correlation between horizontal and vertical change in both male and female. In the posteroanterior cephalograms, the nasal base point (5.41 mm in female, 6.30 mm in male) showed the most distant movement. Subpupil point and nasal base point presented significant movements in both female and male. Nasal base point presented significant negative correlation between the horizontal and vertical change in both male and female. In the lateral and posteroanterior cephalograms, the positional changes of all points presented significant positive correlation with each other in both female and male. Conclusion: The cheek point in the sagittal view and the nasal base point in the frontal view showed the most distant movement on smile. In the sagittal view, the subpupil point and cheek point moved anteriorsuperiorly on smile. In the frontal view, the nasal base points moved laterosuperiorly on smile. In both the sagittal and frontal view, the positional changes of all point were highly correlated to each other. These results may be used in the soft tissue references for the treatment planning of the dentofacial deformity patients.
