A New Cross Section Design Concept for Better Efficiency in Two-Lane Highways (2차로도로 효율성 제고를 위한 횡단면 설계 방안)

  • Currently, cross-section design can not reflect highway function and traffic volume, various construction. This research paper provides analysis of traffic accident type, improvement of traffic operation and safety, assessment for new cross-section standards of two-lane highway. Research show higher accident rate on 6$\sim$8.9m road than 9$\sim$12.9m road width in two-lane highway. Typical improvement is widening on lane and shoulder width. Simulation show large increase on 6$\sim$7m road delay-time in 1,200vph. In contrast 10$\sim$11.5m road shows slight change on delay-time. This research paper provides various cross-section construction by traffic volume in minor arterial and distributor two-lane highway. The new cross-section design provides adopting highway volume, various construction and flexibility.

  • As the Sewer Pipe is transformed by the expansion of life cycle as a result of the technology development, flexible pipe is developed by the transformed environmental conditions. To change pipe design, three phases(compaction ration - inner deflection ratio - ring stiffness) should be considered in design conditions. The input data of pipe design were provided by compaction-inner deflection ratio-ring stiffness. M oreover, The guidelines of sewerage pipes should be considered by flexible pipes design criteria.

Characterization of Radial Stress in Curved Beams

  • Curved glued laminated timber (glulam) is rapidly coming into the domestic modern timber frame buildings and predominant in building construction. The radial stress is frequently occurred in curved beams and is a critical design parameter in curved glulam. Three models, Wilson equation, Exact solution and Approximation equation were introduced to determine the radial stress of curved glulam under pure bending condition. It is obvious that radial stress distribution between small radius and large radius was different due to slight change of neutral plane location to center line. If the beam design with extremely small radius, it should be considered to determine the exact location of maximum radial stress. The current standard KSF 3021 was reviewed and would be considered some adjustment determining the optimum radius in curved glulam. Current design principle is that the stress factor is given by the curvature term only in constant depth of the beam, but like tapered or small radius of beams, the stress factor by Wilson equation was underestimated. So current design formula should be considered to improvement for characterizing the radial stress factor under pure bending condition.

  • With the recent increasing demand on the high-performance buildings, there has been a rapid growth in the application of the Computational Fluid Dynamics to the Building design. The conceptual ventilation design of the underground parking area currently under construction is validated using the CFD-ACE+. It has been found that the conceptual ventilation design quantitively satisfies the legal standards. However, the highly concentrated region of CO is predicted. The positions and blowing directions of ventilating lane are changed based on the previously predicted concentration distributions. The highly concentrated region of CO is slightly reduced, but not much change has been observed. Two more fang are installed and the positions and blowing directions of the fans are modified so that the highly concentrated region of CO is minimized.

A Study on Recent Trends of Principal Particulars m Ice-Transiting Vessel Design (빙해 항행 선박 주요목의 변화 경향에 대한 조사 연구)

  • In this study, design parameters of ice-transiting vessels in the world, currently in service or under construction, were collected and a database of principal particulars for each ship was established. To understand the recent design trend, ice-transiting vessels were categorized into four groups, i.e., conventional icebreakers, icebreaking tug/supply/research vessels, ice-strengthened passenger/car ferry and ice-strengthened cargo vessels. Changes in principal particulars for each group were reviewed and summarized. It was found that the most significant change in the design of ice-transiting vessels was the increment of large size commercial cargo vessels. It is believed that the recent hike of oil prices and booming of Russian economy has resulted in the need for year-round operation with bigger ships in the Baltic Sea and in the Sea of Okhotsk and also along the Northern Sea Route in Russian Arctic Sea.

  • The appearance of the large distribution facility of large enterprise putting first reaches get to the various effect until change of leisure life and life pattern of the consumers from the distribution industry of the interior of a country. Competition of the distribution facility upgrade of the distribution facility and it shows the aspect which becomes the semi-department store, and construction cost is appearing different in proportion to each form or scale. Therefore, purpose of this study was to facilitate amicable construction progress between the owner and the builder through estimating the proper construction cost. This study investigated and analyzed the actual cost of 15 domestic distribution facilities and these datums were used to estimate the proper construction cost. This cost shows that from new project accomplishment through analysis of prediction construction cost for feasibility study from initial plan and design step and can be utilizable elementary data bH decision method to whether or not to propriety of distribution facilities business.

  • Over the past years, complex project which has the object to accomplish housing complex, commercial complex etc, recently is changing to multi-complex projects because of development in IT sector. Improvement in the quality of life, life pattern has been and is being changed, these modernized and improved version of life brings the concept of U-city. Department of urban planning and engineering, civil engineering and architecture engineering in every university educate students according to the changing world in order to handle these complex projects in real world. In most cases department of urban planning and engineering teach project planning and department of civil and architecture engineering teach project design and construction. In most of the projects planning followed by design and construction need to be accomplished, but current observation in the present curriculum shows that it is difficult to expect the continuity. The present curriculum of civil engineering has to change as complex projects deal with various different structures during the design and construction phase of these projects. This study examined curriculums from the department of urban and civil engineering related to structural design and construction and survey importance of design works which overlap urban and civil engineering targeted on design engineers. After understanding design works and results obtained from survey we propose for an advanced efficiency method.

Modification of Creep-Prediction Equation of Concrete utilizing Short-term Creep Test (단기 크리프 시험 결과를 이용한 콘크리트의 크리프 예측시의 수정)

  • Creep of concrete is the most dominating factor affecting time-dependent deformations of concrete structures. Especially, creep deformation for design and construction in prestressed concrete structures should be predicted accurately because of its close relation with the loss in prestree of prestressed concrete structures. Existing creep-prediction models for special applications contain several impractical factors such as the lack ok accuracy, the requirement of long-term test and the lack of versatility for change in material properties, ets., which should be improved. In order to improve those drawbacks, a methodology to modify the creep-prediction equation specified in current Korean concrete structures design standard (KCI-99), which underestimates creep of concrete and does not consider change of condition in mixture design, is proposed. In this study, short-term creep tests were carried out for early-age concrete within 28 days after loading and their test results on influencing factors in the equation are analysed. Then, the prediction equation was modified by using the early-age creep test results. The modified prediction equation was verified by comparing their results with results obtained from long-term creep test.

  • A manufacturing company should produce its products and make a profit to continue its management. With the adoption of a multi-category small-volume production system, manufacturers that produce concrete pump-cine products are carrying out improvement activities to increase their market share amid the business-to-customer business environment. However, the slump in the construction investment environment has led to a decline in sales of concrete pump trucks. The purpose of holding inventory is to prevent loss of sales opportunities with the rate of change in the sales plan, and reducing the rate of change in the product can reduce unnecessary inventory and, in order to realize this, the goal of reducing inventory can be achieved by reviewing the parts that can be designed for common use. Therefore, to reduce the inventory of concrete pump trucks, semi-finished publicization design is necessary. According to the analysis, the frame assembly process of the 32M model is common. Production capacity can be secured without loss of sales opportunity.

Dispute Settlement in Construction Contracts Under FIDIC (FIDIC에 의한 건설계약 분쟁 해결방안에 관한 연구)

  • International construction contractors are often faced with the situation of working in an unfamiliar construction environment. Under FIDIC rules, the contractor has the right to make a claim requesting the consulting engineer for an adjustment to the contract price or the time for completion when a part or parts of the works have changed, or in the event of unforeseeable conditions. Contractors generally have more access to the costs and time implications of such a change or unforeseeable conditions than the consulting engineer or outside neutrals. Due to such an asymmetry of information, the contractor may be motivated to dispute frivolous claims of less merit, expecting erroneous judgments by the consulting engineer or the neutrals. In this paper, a claiming behavior model is presented by using game theory and experience data to study the manner in which frivolous claims develop into disputes. The model also analyzes the impacts of DAB/DRB upon the frivolous claims.
