  • Visual object tracking is a fundamental problem in the field of computer vision, as it needs a proper model to account for drastic appearance changes that are caused by shape, textural, and illumination variations. In this paper, we propose a feature-based visual-object-tracking method with a sparse representation. Generally, most appearance-based models use the gray-scale pixel values of the input image, but this might be insufficient for a description of the target object under a variety of conditions. To obtain the proper information regarding the target object, the following combination of features has been exploited as a corresponding representation: First, the features of the target templates are extracted by using the HOG (histogram of gradient) and LBPs (local binary patterns); secondly, a feature-based sparsity is attained by solving the minimization problems, whereby the target object is represented by the selection of the minimum reconstruction error. The strengths of both features are exploited to enhance the overall performance of the tracker; furthermore, the proposed method is integrated with the particle-filter framework and achieves a promising result in terms of challenging tracking videos.

  • 'Emotional value' has been a buzz word for design and ergonomics in the era of business innovation. However, the complication of 'emotion' in terms of literal and practical meaning has made it a challenging but confusing task for designers to develop a new product with emotional value. 'Sensibility' and 'emotion' are interchangeable terms to describe human feeling ('gamsung' in Korean). The confusion reached at its peak with Korean terms. Even scholars in Korean language, psychologists, ergonomists, and designers are bewildered at the choice of proper expression for human feeling in both Korean and English. The difficulty could explain the problems in 'sensibility ergonomics' in Korea. The purpose of this paper is to provide both fundamental and satisfying information with people in the area of 'sensibility ergonomics'. Therefore, in this paper, a number of articles and books on sensibility, psychology, sensibility ergonomics, and design were reviewed to clarify the meaning of sensibility and relationship among similar words that have been used with unintentional misunderstanding. Also many adjectives on human sensibility were collected and complied for the use of sensibility evaluation.

Method: Data were collected through the in-depth interview of 16 male nurses and analysed through the grounded theory methodology. Result: The behaviors of have made tremendous for job-adaptation can be summarized as a series of struggles to consolidate their own ground. They have made tremendous efforts to hold their own ground in the nursing profession composed of a large numbers of female nurses, while they have experienced many difficulties and problems as minorities. They have struggled to adapt themselves professionally through efforts such as; challenging the social and professional barriers, identifying the job identity, empowering themselves through self-development and dedication, expanding their influence among colleagues. In spite of these efforts, they had the perception that nursing is not a lifelong occupation for them. Thus, they had tendency to find outlets of change to occupations. Conclusion: A specific strategy is needed to provide an environment that is helpful for males in integrating into and adapting to the nursing profession.

  • In AI research Go is regarded as the most challenging board game due to the positional evaluation difficulty and the huge branching factor. MCTS is an exciting breakthrough to overcome these problems. The idea behind AlphaGo was to estimate the winning rate of a given position and then to lead deeper search for finding the best promising move. In this paper, using non-strategic MCTS we verified the fact that most pro players regard the best first move as Tengen (Origin of heaven) in $9{\times}9$ Go is correct. We also compared the average winning rates of the most popular first moves.

  • Recognition of posed face is one of the most challenging problems in the field of face recognition. In this paper, as a preprocessing step for recognizing such faces, a method to transform non-frontal face images into frontal face images is proposed. The linear relationship between eigenfaces is utilized to obtain a pose transform matrix. The proposed method is verified with a well-known face recognition algorithm based on PCA/LDA. Compared to the conventional algorithm applied to the original posed face images, our experimental results indicated that the proposed method contributes to improve the recognition rate of such faces by $20\%$.

  • Extensive research work has been performed on shear strengthening of reinforced concrete (RC) beams retrofitted with externally bonded carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) in form of strips. However, most of this research work is experimental and very scarce studies are available on numerical modelling of such beams due to truly challenging nature of modelling concrete shear cracking and interfacial interaction between components of such beams. This paper presents an appropriate model for RC beam and to simulate its cracking without numerical computational difficulties, convergence and solution degradation problems. Modelling of steel and CFRP and their interfacial interaction with concrete are discussed. Finally, commercially available non-linear finite element software ABAQUS is used to validate the developed finite element model with key tests performed on full scale T-beams with and without CFRP retrofitting, taken from previous extensive research work. The modelling parameters for bonding behavior of CFRP with special anchors are also proposed. The results presented in this research work illustrate that appropriate modelling of bond behavior of all the three types of interfaces is important in order to correctly simulate the shear behavior of RC beams strengthened with CFRP.

  • Traditionally, in the hospital the doctors saw the TRUS images by their eyes and manually segmented the boundary between the prostate and nonprostate. But the manually segmenting process not only needed too much time but also had different boundaries according to the doctor. To cope the problems, some automatic segmentations of the prostate have been studied to generate the constant segmentation results and get the belief from patients. Besides, on detecting the boundary, the ones in the middle of all images are easy to find the boundary but the base and apex of the images are hard to do it since there are lots of uncertain boundary. Accurate detection of prostate boundaries is a challenging and difficult task due to weak prostate boundaries, speckle noises and the short range of gray levels. In this paper, we propose the method that extracts a prostate boundary using features of its directions on prostate image. As a result of our experiments, it shows that the boundary never falls short of the existing methods or human expert's segmentation. And also, its searching speed is too fast because the method searches a smaller area that other methods.

  • Management of laryngotracheal stenosis remains one of the most challenging problems facing the otolaryngologist. The key to success is to obtain adequate rigid circular support with normal mucosal lining. Four Patients with laryngotracheal stenosis were surgically treated in our institution in 2000. All the patients were male adults. The cause of stenosis were longterm or repeated endotracheal intubation and tracheostomy in our patients. All patients were successfully decannulated following segmental resection of the stenotic portion including the anterior arch of the cricoid cartilage and end-to-end anastomosis after suprahyoid laryngeal release. The time between treatment and decannulation was just one day in three patients. These results suggest the Possibility of early decannulation even if the cricoid cartilage was partially resected. It is better to prevent laryngotracheal stenosis rather than to treat it once it has occurred.

  • The first 77 GHz transceiver that applies a heterodyne structure-based linear frequency modulation-frequency shift keying (LFM-FSK) front-end module (FEM) is presented. An LFM-FSK waveform generator is proposed for the transceiver design to avoid ghost target detection in a multi-target environment. This FEM consists of three parts: a frequency synthesizer, a 77 GHz up/down converter, and a baseband block. The purpose of the FEM is to make an appropriate beat frequency, which will be the key to solving problems in the digital signal processor (DSP). This paper mainly focuses on the most challenging tasks, including generating and conveying the correct transmission waveform in the 77 GHz frequency band to the DSP. A synthesizer test confirmed that the developed module for the signal generator of the LFM-FSK can produce an adequate transmission signal. Additionally, a loop back test confirmed that the output frequency of this module works well. This development will contribute to future progress in integrating a radar module for multi-target detection. By using the LFM-FSK waveform method, this radar transceiver is expected to provide multi-target detection, in contrast to the existing method.
