In this study, an investigation of a damage detection methodology for global condition assessment is presented. A particular emphasis is put on the utilization of wireless sensors for more practical, less time consuming, less expensive and safer monitoring and eventually maintenance purposes. Wireless sensors are deployed with a sensor roving technique to maintain a dense sensor field yet requiring fewer sensors. The time series analysis method called ARX models (Auto-Regressive models with eXogeneous input) for different sensor clusters is implemented for the exploration of artificially induced damage and their locations. The performance of the technique is verified by making use of the data sets acquired from a 4-span bridge-type steel structure in a controlled laboratory environment. In that, the free response vibration data of the structure for a specific sensor cluster is measured by both wired and wireless sensors and the acceleration output of each sensor is used as an input to ARX model to estimate the response of the reference channel of that cluster. Using both data types, the ARX based time series analysis method is shown to be effective for damage detection and localization along with the interpretations and conclusions.
This study focuses on the experimental evaluation of the flexural-torsional performance of high strength thin-walled composite members. A series of tests on composite members with various sectional aspect ratios subjected to eccentric cyclic loads were conducted. Test results show that the composite member's torsional strength could be approximated using a series of linear segments and evaluated using the superposition of the component steel and reinforced concrete responses. It is also validated from the tests that the strength deterioration of members subjected to combined loads is closely related to the aspect ratios of the sections. An interaction expression between the bending and torsion for high strength thin-walled composite members is proposed for engineering practice references.

A series of new liquid crystalline compounds having two identical mesogenic terminal units, the 4-(p-nitrobenzoyloxy)phenoxy group, attached to both ends of a central polymethylene spacer of various lengths was prepared. The mesomorphic properties of the compounds were investigated by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and by polarizing microscopy. Almost all of the compounds formed monotropic nematic mesophases. The trimethylene spacer compound was found to be non-liquid crystalline, while the one with the hexamethylene central spacer was enantiotropic. A thermodynamic analysis was performed for the phase transitions of the compounds and the results are discussed in relation to their liquid crystal properties.
If water-chillers are arranged in series-series counterflow, compressor lift of each chiller will be decreased in comparison with water-chillers in parallel. That means that compressor power of the chillers in series will be lower than that of chillers in parallel. However, the pressure drop of the water flow through the chillers in series will increase, and thus increase the power of water pumps. This disadvantage will be made good by increasing the temperature difference of water flow through evaporator and condenser, but the water flow rates will decrease. This paper explores the optimal parameters in system of series-series counterflow for central chilled water plants such as the leaving chilled water temperature, the leaving condenser water temperature, condenser water flow rate and number of chillers in series.

A misclassified size-biased modified power series distribution (MSBMPSD) where some of the observations corresponding to x = c + 1 are misclassified as x = c with probability $\alpha$, is defined. We obtain its recurrence relations among the raw moments, the central moments and the factorial moments. Discussion of the effect of the misclassification on the variance is considered. To illustrate the situation under consideration some of its particular cases like the size-biased generalized negative binomial (SBGNB), the size-biased generalized Poisson (SBGP) and sizebiased Borel distributions are included. Finally, an example is presented for the size-biased generalized Poisson distribution to illustrate the results.
The development of time-frequency analysis techniques allow astronomers to successfully deal with the non-stationary time series that originate from unstable physical mechanisms. We applied a recently developed time-frequency analysis method, the Hilbert-Huang transform (HHT), to two non-stationary phenomena: the superorbital modulation in the high-mass X-ray binary SMC X-1 and the quasi-periodic oscillation (QPO) of the AGN RE J1034+396. From the analysis of SMC X-1, we obtained a Hilbert spectrum that shows more detailed information in both the time and frequency domains. Then, a phase-resolved analysis of both the spectra and the orbital profiles was presented. From the spectral analysis, we noticed that the iron line production is dominated by different regions of this binary system in different superorbital phases. Furthermore, a pre-eclipse dip lying at orbital phase ~0:6-0:85 was discovered during the superorbital transition state. We further applied the HHT to analyze the QPO of RE J1034+396. From the Hilbert spectrum and the O-C analysis results, we suggest that it is better to divide the evolution of the QPO into three epochs according to their different periodicities. The correlations between the QPO periods and corresponding fluxes were also different in these three epochs. The change in periodicity and the relationships could be interpreted as the change in oscillation mode based on the diskoseismology model.
The aim of this note is to derive two known combinatorial identities via a hypergeometric series approach using Saalschiitz's classical summation theorem.
Stay cables play an essential role in cable-stayed bridges. Severe vibrations and/or harsh environment may result in cable failures. Therefore, an efficient structural health monitoring (SHM) solution for cable damage detection is necessary. This study proposes a data-driven method for immediately detecting cable damage from measured cable forces by recognizing pattern transition from the intact condition when damage occurs. In the proposed method, pattern recognition for cable damage detection is realized by time series classification (TSC) using a deep learning (DL) model, namely, the long short term memory fully convolutional network (LSTM-FCN). First, a TSC classifier is trained and validated using the cable forces (or cable force ratios) collected from intact stay cables, setting the segmented data series as input and the cable (or cable pair) ID as class labels. Subsequently, the classifier is tested using the data collected under possible damaged conditions. Finally, the cable or cable pair corresponding to the least classification accuracy is recommended as the most probable damaged cable or cable pair. A case study using measured cable forces from an in-service cable-stayed bridge shows that the cable with damage can be correctly identified using the proposed DL-TSC method. Compared with existing cable damage detection methods in the literature, the DL-TSC method requires minor data preprocessing and feature engineering and thus enables fast and convenient early detection in real applications.
Novel 1,4-substituted piperazine derivatives 5, Series A and B were designed by fragment analysis and molecular modification of 4 selected piperazine-containing compounds which possess antidepressant activity. We synthesized new 39 analogues of Series A and 10 compounds of Series B, respectively. The antidepressant screening against DA, NE, and serotonin neurotransmitter uptake inhibition was carried out using the Neurotransmitter Transporter Uptake Assay Kit. The compounds in Series B showed relatively higher reuptake inhibitory activity for SERT, NET, and DAT than those in Series A. The length of spacer between the central piperazine core and the terminal phenyl ring substituted at the piperazine ring in Series B seems to exert an important role in the activity.
