Si Nanowire (Si-NW) arrays were fabricated by top-down method. A relatively simple method is suggested to fabricate suspended silicon nanowire arrays. This method allows for the production of suspended silicon nanowire arrays using anisotropic wet etching and conventional MEMS method of SOI (Silicon-On-Insulator) wafer. The dimensions of the fabricated nanowire arrays with the proposed method were evaluated and their effects on the Field Effect Transistor (FET) characteristics were discussed. Current-voltage (I-V) characteristics of the device with nanowire arrays were measured using a probe station and a semiconductor analyzer. The electrical properties of the device were characterized through leakage current, dielectric property, and threshold voltage. The results implied that the electrical characteristics of the fabricated device show the potential of being ion-selective field effect transistors (ISFETs) sensors.

FeMn based spin valves often consist of a NiFe/FeMn/NiFe trilayer structure. We have investigated the evolution of exchange bias at the bottom and top interfaces in the NiFe(5nm)/FeMn(x)/NiFe(5nm) trilayer structure as a function of FeMn thickness in the range 3 nm to 30 nm. The XRD results indicate (111) textured growth for NiFe and FeMn layers. The magnetization studies using VSM show two hysteresis loops corresponding to the bottom NiFe seed layer and top NiFe layers with greater bias for the bottom NiFe layer, for FeMn thickness equal to and above 5 nm. The larger exchange bias for the bottom seed layer is confirmed by the surface sensitive MOKE hysteresis loop measurements which show gradual weakening of the MOKE hysteresis loop for the bottom NiFe layer with increasing FeMn thickness. The observed large exchange bias in a spin valve structure is usually attributed to the pinning NiFe layer on top of the FeMn layer, even when a NiFe seed layer of a few nm thickness is present, whereas, in reality it may be arising from the bottom seed layer, as shown by the present study.
We propose a tunable flat-top bandpass filter to pass light in a customized wavelength band by using long-period fiber gratings (LPFG) structure. The LPFG structure is composed of a core mode blocker in between two LPFGs. The bandpass spectrum of the proposed structure is obtained in overlapped wavelength band of two LPFGs operating on the same modes. To analyze the properties, we introduce a mathematical matrix model for the structure. We theoretically demonstrate flexibility of the flat-top bandpass filter with various bandwidths.
For scalable multicast transport, one of the promising approaches is to employ a control tree known as acknowledgement (ACK) tree which can be used to convey information on reliability and session status from receivers to a root sender. The existing tree configuration has focused on a 'bottom-up' scheme in which ACK trees grow from leaf receivers toward a root sender. This paper proposes an alternative 'top-down' configuration where an ACK tree begins at the root sender and gradually expands by including non-tree nodes into the tree in a stepwise manner. The proposed scheme is simple and practical to implement along with multicast transport protocols. It is also employed as a tree configuration in the Enhanced Communications Transport Protocol, which has been standardized in the ITU-T and ISO/IEC JTC1. From experimental simulations, we see that the top-down scheme provides advantages over the existing bottom-up one in terms of the number of control messages required for tree configuration and the number of tree levels.
Due to the irregular shape and the deviation of stiffness center and gravity center, buildings always suffer from complex surface load and vibration response under wind action. This study is dedicated to analyze the surface wind load and wind-induced response of an irregular building, and to discuss the possibility of top swimming pool as a TLD to diminish wind-induced vibration of the structure. Wind tunnel test was carried out on a hotel with irregular shape to analyze the wind load and structural response under 8 wind incident angles. Then a precise numerical model was established and calibrated through experimental results. The top swimming pool was designed according to the principle of frequency modulation, and equations of motion of the control system were derived theoretically. Finally, the wind induced response of the structure controlled by the pool was calculated numerically. The results show that both of wind loads and wind-induced responses of the structure are significantly different with wind incident angle varies, and the across-wind response is nonnegligible. The top swimming pool has acceptable damping effect, and can be designed as TLD to mitigate wind response.
A lightcourt design is typically used to address issues concerning aesthetics, feeling, and mood. From the view point of environmental aspect, as an ecological shaft space, it plays a key role in controlling inner quality. In particularly, the lightcourt concept allows the exploitation of daylighting by bring natural light into the center of the building, thus eliminating dark deep spaces. Additionally, the lightcourt shades the inner space in summer. The amount of light available at the base of the lightcourt depends on a number of factors; translucency of the top, reflectance and the geometry of the space. In this paper is to exemplify a lightcourt configuration with a sloped wall. It promises the maximized a sense of freedom and daylighting availability. It is a matter of course that the lightcourt with open-top plays a role as a light source for the adjacent space to the lightcourt. A series of lighting simulation provides performance data of daylighting with changing photometric factors. For the case that a skylight is not available, an electric lighting design with metal halide lamps has been established to create luminous ceiling. As expected, a sloped lightcourt with open-top exposes its superiority of daylighting source. Ancillary considerations to enhance of daylighting potential for the adjacent space have been issued with performance data.
The growth of Au films grown on a Si(100)-2x1 surface and Si films on a Ge(100)-2x1 substrate is studied using Positron-annihilation induced Auger Electron Spectroscopy(PAES), Electron induced Auger Electron Spectroscopy(EAES), and Low Energy Electron Diffraction(LEED). Previous work has shown that PAES is almost exclusively sensitive to the top-most atomic layer due to the trapping of positrons in an image potential well just outside the surface before annihilation. This surface specificity is exploited to profile the surface atomic concentrations during the growth of Au on Si(100) and Si on Ge(100) and EAES provides concentrations averaged over the top 3-10 atomic layers simultaneously. The difference in the probe-depth makes us possible to use PAES and EAES in a complementary fashion to estimate the surface and near surface concentration profiles. The results show that (i) the intermixing of Au and Si atoms occurs during the room temperature deposition, (ii) the segregated Ge layer is observed onto the Si layers deposited at 300k. In addition, the prior adsorption of hydrogen prevents the segregation of Ge on top of the deposited Si and that the hydrogen adsorption is useful in growing a thermally stable structure.

In this paper, we propose a real-time recognition algorithm of lanes, stop lines and speed bumps on roads for autonomous vehicles. First, we generate a top-view using the image transmitted from a camera that is installed to see the front of a vehicle. To speed up the processing, we simplify the mapping algorithm in constructing a top-view wherein the region of interest (ROI) is concerned. The features of lanes, stop lines and speed bumps, which are composed of lines, are searched in the edge image of the top-view, then followed by labeling and clustering specialized to detect straight lines. The width of lines, distances from the center of a vehicle, and curvature of each cluster are considered to select final candidates. We verify the proposed algorithm on real roads using the commercial car (KIA K7) which is converted into an autonomous vehicle.
In this paper, a plasma-assisted patterning method for the organic layers of organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) and its effect on the OLED performances are reported. Oxygen plasma was used to etch the organic layers, using the top electrode consisting of lithium fluoride and aluminum as an etching mask. Although the current flow at low voltages increased for the etched OLEDs, there was no significant degradation of the OLED efficiency and lifetime in comparison with the conventional OLEDs. Therefore, this method can be used to reduce the ohmic voltage drop along the common top electrodes by connecting the top electrode with highly conductive bus lines after the common organic layers on the bus lines are etched by plasma. To further analyze the current increase at low voltages, the plasma patterning effect on the OLED performance was investigated by changing the device sizes, especially in one direction, and by changing the etching depth in the vertical direction of the device. It was found that the current flow increase at low voltages was not proportional to the device sizes, indicating that the current flow increase does not come from the leakage current along the etched sides. In the etching depth experiment, the current flow at low voltages did not increase when the etching process was stopped in the middle of the hole transport layer. This means that the current flow increase at low voltages is closely related to the modification of the hole injection layer, and thus, to the modification of the interface between the hole injection layer and the bottom electrode.

The current networks do not disclose information about a management domain due to scalability, manageability and commercial reasons. Therefore, it is very hard to calculate an optimal path to the destination. Also, due to poor information sharing, if an error occurs in the intermediate path, it is very difficult to re-search the path and find the best path. Hence, to manage each domain more efficiently, an architecture with top-level path computation node which can obtain information of separate nodes are highly needed This study aims to investigate a federation of a united network around NRN(National Research Network) that could allow resource sharing between countries and also independent resource management for each country. Considering first the aspects that can be accessed from the perspective of a national research network, ICE(Information Control Element) and GFO(Global Federation Organizer)-based architecture is designed as a top-level path computation element to support traffic engineering and applied to the multi-domain network. Then, the federation for the independent management of resources and resource information sharing among national research networks have been examined.
