The aim of this study was to evaluate the musculo-skeletal symptomatic features of municipal sanitation workers and to compare differences of the musculo-skeletal symptoms by work types. We conducted descriptive cross-sectional survey concerning the musculo-skeletal symptomatic features of 315 street cleaners in Seoul and GyeongGi Province, Korea, during 2 weeks of September 2006. Questionnaires were consisted of general characteristics, occupational characteristics and musculo-skeletal symptoms. And we observed their works and evaluated their movement and posture by REBA. For work types, tools and subjective physical work loading, there were statistical difference whether or not NIOSH symptom positive on upper limb. Musculo-skeletal symptoms on upper limb were claimed from 43.2% of street cleaners, more than in 32.4% of cleaners. Musculo-skeletal symptoms on upper limb were reported higher in the group who felt their subjective physical work loading severe than in the otherwise group. The REBA results were over 'high risk stage' in street cleaners. Street cleaners had more repetitive motions than solid waste collectors on upper limbs. Works according to the criteria of musculoskeletal burdened work by the Ministry of Labor results were over 'high risk stage' of No. 2 and No. 4 in street cleaners. We found that street cleaners complained musculo-skeletal symptoms on upper limb more than solid waste collectors. This study suggests that it is necessary for street cleaners to carry out the prevention program of musculo-skeletal diseases. For street cleaner, the measure plans such as job rotation, automatic street sweepers, reducing work hours are helpful in preventing musculoskeletal symptoms on the upper limb.

Stroke is a major cause of death and long-term disability. Because muscle weakness is one of the most prominent consequences of stroke, it was considered important to determine whether exercise in order to improve muscle strength and range of motion could have an effect in limiting the learned disuse of the affected side. The purpose of the study was to identify the effects of an 8 week rehabilitation program on physical and cognitive ability in stroke patients. A total of 18 patients who were admitted to the oriental medicine unit of a K medical center in Seoul were recruited : ten for the experimental group and eight for the control group. The rehabilitation program consisted of three level's of active and passive exercises for prevention of muscle contracture and at range of motion. Muscle strength, flexibility of the upper and lower extremity, perceived balance, functional independence, depression, and quality of life for the two groups were compared at the pretest and 4 and 8 weeks after the rehabilitation program. The results are as follows : 1) When measuring muscle strengths of shoulder abduction and elbow flexion, hip flexion and knee extensor, ankle dorsi-flexor and muscle strength of knee flexor. Muscle strength of knee flexor for the experimental group was significantly higher than the comparison group at the 4 weeks. 2) Muscle strength and flexibility of the ankle dorsi -flexor for the experimental group was significantly better than for the control group at 8 weeks. 3) Functional independence, perceived balance, and Tinetti balance for the experimental group as measured at 4 and 8 weeks were better than for the control group. Also, there were changes over time in physical balance and functional ability, but there was no significant differences between the groups. 4) The experimental group showed a higher quality of life and lower depression than the control group at 8 weeks. 5) Muscle strength and flexibility of ankle dorsi -flexor were significantly changed over time and an interaction between group and time. The findings suggested that the rehabilitation program would improve the physical and psychological status of the stroke patients. Thus, the gains in actual or perceived ability to perform physical activities was marked.
This study is a phenomenological study that aimed to understand the meaning of nursing students' experience of class using flipped learning method. The participants are 8 senior nursing students. The data collected by individual in-depth interviews and analyzed by Colaizzi's method. As a result of this study, 35 key themes and 11 clusters of themes were derived. The 11 thematic categories are classified in pre-education, in-classroom, and post-education. At the pre-education, the theme clusters are 'lack of information', 'psychological burden', 'different teaching methods', 'improvement of self-directed learning ability', and 'different learner's achievement'. At the in-class, the theme clusters are 'efficient teaching direction' and 'confidence improvement'. At the post-education stage, the theme clusters are 'positive influence on class', 'strengthening self-pay', 'not preferred', and 'lecture preference'. Therefore, a more diversified and in-depth repetitive study is suggested in order to apply the flipped learning method to the nursing major.

The purpose of this study is to provide the improvement basis for Dental Hygiene education program by analyzing the current implement status of Dental Hygiene curriculum in Korea and comparing the status with the US ADA standard. The researcher analyzed the Dental Hygiene syllabus limiting "Dental prophxis", "Comprehensive dental hygiene" subjects only from 31 universities which offer 3 years program. The main interest was to figure the implementing status of the curriculum and to compare the actual teaching content with the CODA 2-17 standard. The results show that there are a number of problems in implementing the Dental Hygiene courses among different universities. First, there is a significant inconsistence among schools in terms of course title, total credit, hours, the ratio for theory and practice, etc. In addition, there is a big gap between the actual content of Dental Hygiene courses and the essential/required content of CODA 2-17 standard. For instance, most of the Dental Hygiene programs in Korea cover the overall assessment stage content and some of implementation stage content. However, very few programs deal with the planning and evaluation stage content. To improve these problematic circumstance a number of suggestions were made. Developing the standardized curriculum for the Dental Hygiene program might be one of the major solutions. Next, the regular accreditation and/or assessment system for the Dental Hygiene program should be developed. This research can provide the basis for the need to assess and improve the Dental Hygiene curriculum.
