In this study, the design and numerical analysis method of the inclined self-supported wall using cement treated soil were studied. In the case of the inclined self-supported wall, the active earth pressure decreased due to the decrease in the coefficient, Ka according to the slope (angle) and the weight decreasing effect, thereby increasing the overall stability. The wall with the slope caused a change in failure mode from overturning to sliding on the excavation side, and the optimal slope was evaluated to be about 10°. Compared to the strength reduction method, the overall stability in numerical analysis results in conservative results in limit equilibrium analysis, so it was found that this method should be attended when designing. As a result of the parameteric study, the stability on bearing capacity and compression failure did not significantly increase above the slope of 10° when the surcharge was small (about 20kPa or less). In the case of cohesion of the backfill, The results similar to numerical analysis were found to consider cohesion. It was evaluated that stability on sliding, oveturning, shear, and tension failure increases in proportion to the thickness of the wall, but there is no significant change in the stability on the bearing capacity and compressive failure regardless of the thickness of the wall above a certain angle (about 10°).

In this study, the design methods of self-supported retaining wall with cement treated soil constructed by vertical mixing method (trencher mixing method, V-DCM), which are using in domestic and foreign field, are investigated, and the characteristics of it are presented with comparing the results of numerical analysis with the drainage and construction conditions. The results indicated that the method 1 (total stress analysis) is the most aggressive, and method 2 (effective stress analysis) and method 3 are similar in the internal stress, and the stress and the horizontal displacement are effected on the soil type and drainage conditions in backfill of the wall. Also, in the case of the design combined with numerical analysis the method 1 can be applied, in that of the traditional design without the analysis the method 2 or the method 3 can be used. Finally, if the numerical analysis is only conduct, the tensile stress in excavation base and in boundary of the wall and the original ground have to be considered in the numerical analysis method.

PURPOSE. To compare the fracture resistance and the mode of failure of endodontically treated teeth restored with different post-core systems. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Root canal treatment was performed on 40 maxillary incisors and the samples were divided into four groups of 10 each. For three experimental groups post space preparation was done and teeth were restored with cast post-core (Group B), stainless steel post with composite core (Group C) and glass fiber post with composite core using adhesive resin cement (Group D). Control group (A) samples were selected with intact coronal structure. All the samples were prepared for ideal abutment preparation. All the samples were subjected to a load of 0.5 mm/min at $130^{circ}$.until fracture occurred using the universal testing machine. The fracture resistance was measured and the data were analyzed statistically. The fracture above the embedded resin was considered to be favorable and the fracture below the level was considered as unfavorable. The statistical analysis of fracture resistance between different groups was carried out with t-test. For the mode of failure the statistical analysis was carried out by Kruskal-Wallis test and Chi-Square test. RESULTS. For experimental group Vs control group the fracture resistance values showed significant differences (P<.05). For the mode of failure the chi-square value is 16.1610, which means highly significant (P=.0009) statistically. CONCLUSION. Endodontically treated teeth without post core system showed the least fracture resistance demonstrating the need to reinforce the tooth. Stainless steel post with composite core showed the highest fracture resistance among all the experimental groups. Teeth restored with the Glass fiber post showed the most favorable fractures making them more amenable to the re-treatment.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the shear bond strength between various resin-bonded retainers and enamel according to the adhesive resins and retention types and observe the bond filure modes with scanning electron microscope(SEM). For this purpose, the followin eight sub-groups were tested in shear bond strength : 1) electrochemically etched group(Verabond) using Panavia EX and Superbond C&B 2) tin-plated group(PG-S) using Panavia EX and Superbond C&B 3) salt-treated group(Verabond) using Panavia EX and Superbond C&B 4) meshtreated group(Verabond) using Panavia EX and Superbond C&B. Thermocycling test was conducted on the condition of 15 second dwell time each in $5^{\circ}C$ and $55^{\circ}C$bath. Shear bond strength was measured by Instron Universal Testing Machine(medel 1125). The obtained results were as follows : 1. After thermocycling, the shear bond strengths of tin-plated group and electrochemically etched group were significantly greater than those of salt-treated group and mesh-treated group. And the shear bond strength of Panavia EX was greater than that of Superbond C&B with salt-treated group and tin-plated group(p<0.05). 2. Before thermocycling, electrochemically etched group using Superbond C&B produced the greatest shear bond strength(p<0.01). 3. The shear bond strength of electrochemically etched group using Superbond C&B was significantly decreased after thermocycling(p<0.01). 4. In observation of bond failure modes before thermocycling, Panavia EX highly exhibited enamel fracture. Tin-plated group using Superbond C&B adhesive failure between metal and resin and electrochemically etched group using Superbond C&B exhibited adhesive failure between enamel and rdsin. 5. In observation of failure modes after thermocycling, Panavia EX exhibited cohesive failure and Superbond C&B exhibited adhesive failure between resin and metal.
The endodontically treated tooth is generally restored with post & core, owing to the brittleness and the loss of large amount of tooth structure. Although there have been lots of studies about the endodontically treated teeth, the three-dimensional quantitative studies about the strees distribution of them are in rare cases. In this study, it was assumed that the coronal portion of the upper incisou had severely damaged. After the root canal therapy it was post cored, and restored with PFM crown, for this experiment nine types of model were constructed : 1); long, 2); medium, 3); short gold post for the roots supported with a narmal alveolar bone, 4); long, 5); medium, 6); short gold post for the roots supported with an alveolar bone resorbed to its 1/3 of root length, 7); long, 8); medium, 9); short base metal post for the roots supported with an alveolar bone resorbed to its 1/3 of root length. Force was applied from two directions. One was functional maximum bite force(300N) applied to the spot just lingual to the incisal edge with the angle of 45 degrees to the long axis of the tooth, and the other one was horizontal force(300N) applied to the labial surface. The results analyzed with three-dimensional finite element method were as follows : 1. Stress was concentrated on the middle portion of the labial side dentin of the root and the lingual portion of the apical dentin of the root. Stress in the post showed maximum value at 2 mm above the post apex. 2. In case of the long post and base metal post, strees was concentrated on the apex of the root and the post. 3. In case of the longer post, the displacement on the post-cement interface was lessened. The gold post was more displaceable than the base metal post. 4. In case of the alveolar bone resorption, stress concentrated on the root and the post and displacement on the post-cement interface were increased.
The bond strength is the most important factor in establishing long-term success of resin-retained fixed prostheses. So, various surface treatment methods have been introduced to improve the bond strength of metal surface and bonding resin till now This study was performed to compare the effect of silicoating with that of metal primer and analyze the correlation between treatment time of sandblasting and the bond strength, so that meant to find more effective surface treatment method that could enhance the bond strength of resin-retained fixed prostheses. The surfaces of all specimens made of $Verabond^{(R)}$ alloys were air abraded with $250{\mu}m\;Al_2O_3$ according to treatment time of sandblasting and they were subdivided to be treated with only sandblasting(S group), silicoating following sandblasting(SS group) and metal primer application after sandblasting(SM group). Then pairs of metal specimens (${\phi}10mm{\times}h\;2mm,\;{\phi}6{\times}h\;2mm$) were bonded with Super bond $C&B^{(R)}$. The specimens were stored in $38^{\circ}C$ water for 48 hours and shear bond strength was measured using the universal testing machine. The results were as follows, 1. In the comparison of shear bond strength according to treatment time of sandblasting, bond strength was increased in the order of 0', 15', 30', 45', 60' group. 0' group had significantly lower value than any other, while 0', 15' group were significantly different with 30', 45', 60' group(p<0.05). 2. In the comparison of shear bond strength according surface treatment methods, bond strength was increased in the order of S group. SS group and SM group. S group was significantly different with SS group and SM group(p<0.05). 3. Observing the mode of bond failure. 0', 15' group showed only adhesive failure, and 30', 45', 60' group did mostly adhesive & cohesive failure in S group. In SS group and SM group, all other groups except 0', 15' group showed mostly cohesive failure. From the above results, it is considered that sandblasting should be treated for more than 30 seconds, and metal primer be more effective and available clinically than silicoater system which is complicate, technique-sensitive and time-consuming method, when nonprecious metal surface is planning be treated with in order enhance the bond strength of resin-retained fixed prostheses.
This study evaluated the shear bond properties of IPS Empress glass ceramic to enamel and dentin surfaces with three ceramic surface treatments, and three resin cements. The influence of thermocycling was also investigated. The purpose of this study was to investigate the influences of resin cements, ceramic surface treatments, and thermocycling on shear bond properties. Ninety freshly extracted, noncarious human molars were selected for this study. The surface treatments of ceramic were etching <5.0% hydrofluoric acid, application of silane coupling agents(Tokuso Ceramic Primer, Clearfil porcelain bond, Monobond-S), and the combination of the two methods. Empress cylinders were bonded to enamel and dentin surfaces with three kinds of resin cements(Bistite resin cement, Panavia 21, Variolink). The specimens were aged in $37^{\circ}C$ distilled water for 24 hours. Half of the specimens were then thermocycled 500times between $5^{\circ}C$ and $55^{\circ}C$ with a dwell time of 15 seconds. Each specimen was debonded in shear mode and measured shear bond properties by using the universal testing machine(Zwick 020, Germany). The data were analyzed by SPSS/PC+(one-way ANOVA, Scheffe' s test and t-test). The results were as follows : 1. Without thermocyling, there was significant difference of shear bond strength to enamel surface between Bistite Resin Cement and Panavia 21 in case of etched and silane-treatment(p<0.05). 2. Without thermocyling, the shear bond strength of a group treated with silane and etching was significantly higher than that of a group treated with silane or etching with the application of Panavia 21 and Variolink(p<0.05). 3. A group treated with etching with the application of Variolink only showed a decrease of shear bond strength after thermocycling(p<0.05).
Purpose: To evaluate the effect of different surface treatment methods (yttria-tetragonal zirconia polycrystal [Y-TZP] primers, air-abrasion, and tribochemical surface treatment) on the shear bond strength between (Y-TZP) ceramics and etch-and-rinse non-10-methacryloyloxydecyl dihydrogen phosphate (MDP)-containing resin cements. Materials and Methods: Y-TZP ceramic surfaces were ground flat with 600-grit silicone carbide abrasives paper and then divided into seven groups of ten. They were treated as the following: untreated (control), Monobond Plus (IvoclarVivadent), Z-PRIME Plus (Bisco Inc.), ESPE Sil with CoJet (3M ESPE), air-abrasion, Monobond Plus with air-abrasion, and Z-PRIME Plus with air-abrasion. The surface of Y-TZP specimens was analyzed under a scanning electron microscope (SEM). Non-MDP-containing cements were placed on the surface-treated Y-TZP specimens. After thermocycling, shear bond strength test was performed. Bond strength values were statistically analyzed using one-way analysis of variance and Student-Newman-Keuls multiple comparison test (P<0.05). Result: The Z-PRIME Plus treatment in combination with air-abrasion produced the highest bond strength ($14.94{\pm}1.70MPa$) followed by Monobond Plus combined with air-abrasion ($10.70{\pm}1.71MPa$), air-abrasion ($10.47{\pm}1.60MPa$), ESPE Sil after CoJet treatment ($10.38{\pm}0.87MPa$), Z-PRIME Plus application ($10.00{\pm}1.70MPa$), and then Monobond Plus application ($9.25{\pm}0.86MPa$). The control ($6.70{\pm}1.49MPa$) indicated the lowest results (P<0.05). The SEM results showed different surface morphologies according to surface treatment methods compared with the Y-TZP control. Conclusion: The shear bond strength between the Y-TZP ceramic and the non-MDP-containing resin cement was the greatest when the surface was treated with air-abrasion and MDP-containing Z-PRIME Plus primer.

The choice of eco-friendly materials for ground improvement is a necessary way forward for sustainable development. Adapting naturally available biopolymers will render the process of soil stabilization carbon neutral. An attempt has been made to use β-glucan, a natural biopolymer for the stabilization of lean clay as a sustainable alternative with specific emphasis on comprehending the effect of confining stresses on lean clay through triaxial compression tests. A sequence of laboratory experiments was performed to examine the various physical and mechanical characteristics of β-glucan treated soil (BGTS). Micro-analysis through micrographs were used to understand the strengthening mechanism. Results of the study show that the deviatoric stress of 2% BGTS is 12 times higher than untreated soil (UTS). The micrographs from Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and the results of the Nitrogen-based Brunauer Emmett Teller (N2-BET) analysis confirm the formation of new cementitious fibres and hydrogels within the soil matrix that tends to weld soil particles and reduce the pore spaces leading to an increase in strength. Hydraulic conductivity (HC) and compressibility reduced significantly with the biopolymer content and curing period. Results emphases that β-glucan is an efficient and sustainable alternative to the traditional stabilizers like cement, lime or bitumen.
