To predict service life of concrete structures exposed to chloride attack, surface chloride concentration, diffusion coefficient of chloride ion, and chloride corrosion threshold value in concrete, are used as important factors. of these, as the diffusion coefficient of chloride ion for concrete is strongly influenced by concrete quality and environmental conditions of structures and may significantly change the service life of structures, it is considered as the most important factor for service life prediction. The qualitative factors affecting the penetration and diffusion of chloride ion into concrete are water-binder(W/B) ratio, age, cement type and constituents, chloride ion concentration of given environment, wet and dry conditions, etc. In this paper the influence of cement type on the diffusion characteristics of chloride ion in concrete was investigated through the chloride ion diffusion test. For this purpose, the diffusion characteristics in concrete with cement type such as ordinary portland cement(OPC), binary blended cement(BBC), and ternary blended cement(TBC) were estimated for the concrete with W/B ratios of 32% and 38%, respectively. It was observed from the test that the difussion characteristics of BBC containing OPC and ground granulated blast-furnace slag was found to be most excellent of the cement type used in this study.
Organic clays are ideal habitat for flora and fauna. From a geotechnical perspective, organic clays are soft, weak, variable, heterogeneous and flocculated. Portland cement is a universally common stabiliser. However, some organic acids in soil inhibit full hydration and expose cementation products to rapid dissolution. This paper investigates scopes for use of C3S cement to enable durable cementation. Prospects of using PP fibre alongside with C3S cement, scopes for partial replacement of C3S cement with a plant-based nanosilica and evolution of binders are then investigated. Binding mixtures here mimic the natural functions of rhizoliths, amorphous phases, and calcites. Testing sample population include natural and fibre-reinforced clays, compact mixes of clay - C3S cement, clay - nanobiosilica, and clay, C3S cement and nanobiosilica. Benefits and constraints of C3S cement and fibres for retaining the naturally flocculated structure of organic clays are discussed. Nanobiosilica provides an opportunity to cut the C3S content, and to transition of highly compressive organic clays into an engineered, open-structured medium with >0.5 MPa compressive strength across the strains spanning from peak to 1.5-times peak.
The paper presented investigates the effects of kaolinite on strength properties of alkali-activated multi-component cement. The binders of this study was blended of ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBFS), fly ash (FA), silica fume (SF) and kaolinite (KA). In this study, the specimens of combination of 20%~70% GGBFS, 10%~60% FA, 10% SF (constant ratio) and 10%~50% KA binder were used for strength properties tests. The water/binder ratio was 0.5. The binders (GGBFS + FA + SF + KA) was activated by sodium hydroxide (NaOH) and sodium silicate ($Na_2SiO_3$) was 10% by total binder weight (10% NaOH + 10% $Na_2SiO_3$). The research carried out is on the compressive strength, water absorption, ultrasonic pulse velocity (UPV) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The compressive strength decreased as the contents of KA increase. One of the major reason for this is the low reactivity of KA compared with other raw materials used as precursors such as GGBFS or FA. The presence of remaining KA indicates that the initially used quantity has not fully reacted during hydration. Moreover, the results have indicated that increased of KA contents decreased UPV under all experimental conditions. The drying shrinkage and water absorption increased as the content of KA increase. Test result clearly showed that the strength development of multi-component blended cement were significantly dependent on the content of KA and GGBFS.

The present study assesses the chloride threshold level for corrosion of steel in concrete by examining the properties of four different binders used for blended concrete in terms of chloride binding, buffering of cement matrix to a pH fall and the corrosion behaviour. As binders, ordinary Portland cement (OPC), 30% pulverised fuel ash (PFA), 60% ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBS) and 10% silica fume (SF) were used in a concrete mix. Testing for chloride binding was carried out using the water extraction method, the buffering of cement matrix was assessed by measuring the resistance to an artificial acidification of nitric acid, and the corrosion rate of steel in mortar with chlorides in cast was measured at 28 days using an anodic polarisation technique. Results show that the chloride binding capacity was much affected by $C_{3}A$ content and physical adsorption, and its order was 60% GGBS>30% PFA>OPC>10% SF. The buffering of cement matrix to a pH fall was varied with binder type and given values of the pH. From the result of corrosion test, it was found that the chloride threshold ranged 1.03, 0.65, 0.45 and 0.98% by weight of cement for OPC, 30% PFA, 60% GGBS and 10% SF respectively, assuming that corrosion starts at the corrosion rate of $0.1-0.2{\mu}A/cm^{2}$. The mole ratio of [$Cl^{-}$]:[$H^{+}$], as a new presentation of the chloride threshold, indicated the value of 0.008-0.009, irrespective of binder, which would be indicative of the inhibitive characteristic of binder.
Latex modified concrete is governed by both cement hydration and polymer film formation processes in its binder phase. Such the reactions are expected to improve the polymer-cement co-matrixes themselves and the bond between the cement hydrates and aggregates, and to improve the properties of hardened latex-modified concrete. The purpose of this study was to study the strength and chemical resistance of Rapid-setting latex modified concrete(RSLMC) with the main experimental variables such as latex content(0, 5, 10, 15, 20%) and water-cement ratio(36, 38, 40%) at latex content 15%. Water absorption test was earned out to estimate water permeability resistance. Chemical resistance test was carried out to measure the weight change and to observe the appearance of RSLMC immersion in hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid, and calcium choloride.

The aim of this study is to compare the development of compressive strength of high-Flowing concrete with maturity and to investigate the applicability of strength prediction models of concrete. An experiment was attempted on the high-flowing concrete mixes using Ordinary portland cement, High belite cement, Blast furance slage cement and replaced Fly-ash of 30% by weight of Ordinary portland cement, the water-binder ratios of mixes being 0.35 and the curing temperatures being 30, 20, 10, 5$^{\circ}C$. Test results of mixes are statistically analyzed to infer the correlation coefficient between the maturity and the compressive strength of high-flowing concrete.

Production of high strength concrete requires a low water-cement ratio and this leads to the high cement content. Mineral admixture like fly ash(FA) is often cheaper than ordinary portland cement(OPC) and this factor in combination with possible improvement in workability and moderation of the heat evolution of the cement-rich mixes tends to encourage its use. The other mineral admixture that its use has been widly advocated is silica fume that increases compressive strength due to its pozzolanic reaction. The objective of this study is to assess the contribution of mineral admixtures(FA, SF) to the workability and the strength of concrete with low water-binder ratios. In this experimental study that investigates and analyzes the properties of fresh concrete, it is presented that using admixtures like flysh and silica fume as binding material increases properties of high strength flowing concrete having very low water cementitious ratios of 0.25 and 0.30.

In this Paper, concrete durability, coefficient variation of compressive strength, and hydration heat development characteristics of concrete using different types binder for 2nd Phase Construction in IIA were investigated. The experimental results show that the coefficient variation of compressive strength decreased with the slag cement when compared with the replacement of granulated blast furnace slag powder. And the diffusion coefficient of chloride ion decreased with use of a blended cement when compared with using a only portland cement. Also the type of low heat cement is very suitable to reduce the thermal crack caused by hydration heat development.

Slags are by-products of the metallurgical industry. The most important slag from the standpoint of the quantity used as building material is iron blastfurnace slag. Slags are either crystalline stable solid used as aggregates or glassy material used as hydraulic binder. Slag cements are low heat of hydration cements. Slags react more slowly with than portland cement but they can be activated chemically. Activatiors can be either alkaline activators such as soda, lime, sodium carbonate, sodium silicate or sulphate activators such as calcium sulphate or phosphogypsum. So, in this study slaked lime was used as an activator that the compressive strength of this modified cement(M1 type) is high range in early age. And initial setting time of M1 type cement was shorter than conventional cements.
