  • Through the industrial revolution that began in the 18th century, the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere increased rapidly as humans used fossil energy such as coal and oil as fuel for steam engines and factory machines. The amount of carbon dioxide emitted while producing cement, the main material of concrete used in construction, is large enough to account for 5-8% of the world's carbon dioxide emissions. In this study, Non cement-based matrix were used to reduce carbon dioxide emissions from cement production. Red mud is an industrial by-product generated in the manufacturing process of aluminum hydroxide using bauxite, and more than 120 million tons are produced worldwide. In addition, red mud is a porous material that can be physically adsorbed, and causes a photocatalytic reaction of TiO2 to remove harmful substances such as nitrogen oxide formaldehyde in the air and chemically adsorbs ammonia and hydrogen sulfide. Therefore, this study aims to examine the physical properties of the matrix by mixing red mud, an industrial by-product with good adsorption performance, into the Non cement-based matrix.

  • In this study, the tensile behavior of single and hybrid fiber reinforced cement composite according to strain rate was evaluated. Experimental results, in the strain rate 10-6/s, fiber reinforced cement composite showed improved of tensile strength and decrease of strain at peak stress as SSF volume content increased. In the strain rate 101/s, the single and hybrid reinforced cement composite' s tensile properties are improved, because of the improved bond strength between the fiber and matrix. And hybrid fiber reinforced cement composite showed high energy absorption capacity, because the SSF prevented the cracking and fracture of the surrounding matrix when during the HSF pull-out.

  • This study is the experiment for manufacturing the Lightweight non-cement matrix based on the Blast furnace slag. And, the matrix was manufactured matrix by generating the bubble just by the reaction of KOH that is the alkali accelerator and paper ash, instead of the general foaming agent, that is the waste managed of incineration the pulp sludge generated in the process of manufacturing the paper. Consequently, the density according to the addition rate of KOH represented the tendency to increase. And it showed up that density of the matrix adding KOH 22.5% was the lowest. As to the strength test result, strength following addition rate of KOH increased. Since the bubble is generated in the reaction of KOH and paper ash, this shows the very low intensity but it is determined to be the result that the amount of vacant space is decreased because the bubble generated in the mixture process comes up as the specific gravity difference.

  • The exterior finish not only has a relationship to the functionality of building, but also the spatial aesthetics and visual perception. Common exterior finishes are wood, stone or acrylic based and etc. However, these finishes have different attributes which can alter the quality of the architecture, such as durability, moisture and fire resistance. To make up for the short-comings of these materials, we have used iron based resources for optimization. However, iron materials are expensive, so they have limitations in general use. In this study, we have experimented with various forms of exterior finishes using cement, which is the most efficient and widely used building material with several economic advantages. We experimented with different materials to use as the formwork for the gloss of the cement matrix. As a result, the gloss show that order of urethane, steel, and wood material.

  • The groutability depends on the properties of the grout, its injection processes, and on the mechanical properties of the soil formation. During the process of pouring cement-based grouting into a porous medium, a variation with time occurs in the viscosity of grout suspension. In addition the particle filtration phenomenon will limit the expansion of the grouted zone because cement particles are progressively stagnant within the soil matrix. In this paper, a closed-form solution was derived by implementing the mass balance equations and the generalized phenomenological filtration law, which can be used to evaluate the deposition of cement-based grout in the soil matrix. The closed-form solution relevant to a particular spherical flow was modified by a step-wise numerical calculation, considering the variable viscosity caused by a chemical reaction, and the decrease in porosity resulting from grout particle deposition in the soil pores. A series of pilot-scale chamber injection tests was performed to verify that the developed step-wise numerical calculation is able to evaluate the injectable volume of grout and the deposition of grout particles. The results of the chamber injection tests concurred well with that of the step-wise numerical calculation. Based on the filtration phenomenon, a new groutability criterion of cement-based grout in a porous medium was proposed, which might facilitate a new insight in the design of the grouting process.

  • In this study, the effect of natural jute fiber volume fraction on the bond characteristics of polyolefin based macro fiber in natural jute fiber reinforced cement composites, including bond strength, interface toughness, and microstructure analysis are presented. The experimental results on polyolefin based macro fiber pullout test of different conditions are reported. Natural jute fiber volume fractions ranging from 0.1% to 0.2% are used in the mix proportions. Pullout tests are conducted to measure the bond characteristics of polyolefin based macro fiber from natural jute fiber reinforced cement composites. Test results are found that the incorporation of natural jute fiber can effectively enhance the polyolefin based macro fiber-cement matrix interfacial properties. The bond strength and interface toughness between polyolefin based macro fiber and natural jute fiber reinforced cement composites increases with the volume fraction of natural jute fiber. The microstructural observation confirms the findings on the interface bond mechanism drawn from the fiber pullout test results.

  • During the past decades, development of reinforcing materials caused a revolution in the structure of high strength and high performance cement-based concrete. Among the most important and exciting reinforcing materials, Steel Fiber (SF) becomes a widely used in the recent years. The main reason for addition of SF is to enhance the toughness and tensile strength and limit development and propagation of cracks and deformation characteristics of the SF blended concrete. Basically this technique of strengthening the concrete structures considerably modifies the physical and mechanical properties of plain cement-based concrete which is brittle in nature with low flexural and tensile strength compared to its intrinsic compressive strength. This paper presents an overview of the work carried out on the use of SF as reinforcement in cement-based concrete matrix. Reported properties in this study are fresh properties, mechanical and durability of the blended concretes.

  • CaO-based by-product, which consist of CaO, $SO_3$, $Al_2O_3$ and so on, has being used to raw materials of CaO compound. When It was applied to recycling water of remicon, concrete performance can be enhanced because hydration reaction of powder material is accelerated. In this study, activated-sludge, which was putted desulfurization gypsum of CaO-based in recycling water, was manufactured to verify effect of them, and then they was investigated by characteristics of cement matrix and mortar. As a results, they indicated reduction of setting time and high soundness in cement matrix, and acceleration of hydration reaction can be verified by XRD analysis. Also, it can be maintained good workability if water content by usage of desulfurization gypsum, which used for production of activated-sludge, was adjusted. In addition, it can be verified strength development by activated-sludge although cement content by usage of desulfurization gypsum was reduced.
