  • This study evaluated indoor environmental characteristics in an office room equipped both with ventilation window system and central cooling system. Fresh air is supplied only by the central cooling system whereas indoor air is discharged outside through both ceiling diffuser and a ventilation window system. Numerical study is conducted by changing the volumetric flow rates of exhaust ports of each system. For estimating the performance of this coupled system, $CO_2$ concentration and Predicted Mean Vote (PMV) were calculated using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulation. The more the ceiling diffuser exhausts indoor air, the more the $CO_2$ concentration decreases. However, when the ventilation window system exhausts more indoor air, thermal comfort level gets improved in the office room with cooling system. Therefore, when the ventilation window system is operated, the coupled operation with central cooling system should be considered for enhancing indoor air quality and thermal comfort, together.

  • This paper examines the seismic performance and structural design of the ceiling bracket-type modular connection. The bracket-type system reduces the cross-sectional area loss of members and combines units using fitting steel plate, and it has been developed to be fit for medium-story and higher-story buildings. In particular, this study conducted the cyclic loading test for the performance of the C-type and L-type brackets, and compared the results. The test results were also compared with the commercial FEA program. In addition, the structural design process for the bracket-type modular connection was presented. The two connections, proposed as a result of the test results, were all found to secure the seismic performance level of the special moment steel frame. In the case of initial stiffness, the L-type bracket connection was found to be great, but in the case of the maximum moment or fully plastic moment, it was different depending on the loading direction.

  • Turbo-fan for ceiling cassette type air conditioner doesn't operate in general volute. It is operated by porous material, heat exchanger. Heat exchanger increases resistance of air conditioning system and disturbs exit-flow of impeller. Therefore it has some influences on impeller capacity. In this study, we want to how that influence of exchanger on impeller capacity for ceiling cassette type air conditioner. To research, we made circular case that didn't have asymmetric part unlike rectangular case. With and without heat exchanger we measured total pressure and static pressure of impeller and three-dimensional rear flow field From the result, a turbo fan , installed in the 35mm back of fan and operated in heat exchanger, experienced $2{\%}{\~}5{\%}$% total pressure loss over all flow rate. With heat exchanger impeller efficiency decrease as flow rate decrease when flow rate coefficient was below 0.18. Especially when flow rate coefficient was below 0.12, there was $20{\%}{\~}30{\%}$ decrease of impeller efficiency.

  • In order to show the most suitable ventilation conditions for the prevention of spontaneous combustion of small ship engine room, We have performed CFD simulation and analyzed flow and temperature fields. The flow patterns indicated differently according to the number and location of supply and exhaust opening. The case of locating the exhaust openings at the center of left and right side ceiling to the longitudinal symmetric line were more effective to eliminate the generated heat. When the number of supply and exhaust openings were increased, the case of increasing the number of exhaust opening showed more suitable ventilation conditions. The most suitable ventilation conditions in order to prevent the spontaneous combustion of small ship engine room was predicted that the supply opening located at the center of front and after side ceiling to across symmetric line, and the exhaust opening located at the center of both side walls.

  • The present study aims to investigate the effects of sound diffusers and absorbers on the sound clarity in classrooms. In order to do this, computer simulations were carried out to find the effective area of treatment which could enhance the sound clarity in the room. Acoustic measurements were undertaken in a lecture room with several conditions changing the surface of walls and ceilings with diffusers and absorbers. Diffusion and absorption treatments were applied to the side walls, rear wall and the ceiling of the classroom. SPL, RT, D50, RASTI were measured at 9 measurement points with one sound source and MLS was used as the sound source signal. The results show that higher sound clarity was obtained when diffusers were applied to rear walls and ceiling rather than side walls. Also, it was confirmed that absorption increased sound clarity more effectively with smaller amount in comparison with diffusers. It was also concluded that the effects of sound diffusers and absorbers on the sound clarity could be obtained distinctly at the rear area of the classroom.

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate the air diffusion performance of a range of indoor units for room airconditioners; the wall-mounted type, floor-standing type, and ceiling-mounted type. These types of units, which have been widely used in housing spaces, will be studied with respect to thermal comfort and the energy performance using CFD analysis. In this study, current air conditioning status and related problems in housing spaces are examined, and a CFD analysis is performed in order to compare and analyze the thermal comfort and energy efficiency across each type of indoor-unit using the PMV, ADPI, EUC and FCEI indexes. The analysis results collectively considering thermal comfort and energy performance indicated that the ceiling-mounted type 4-way indoor unit showed the best diffusion performance in terms of thermal comfort, and had the second best diffusion performance in terms of energy performance after the wall-mounted type under certain conditions.

  • The purpose of this study was to draw application elements of housing interior design according to user-oriented sensibility types. The sensibility evaluation experiments were conducted to target the general user 118 people using the sensibility evaluation tool for housing interior space. The results of the analysis were as: To produce the 'cozy' space, the colors and materials giving soft and natural feeling should be used. For the 'practical' space, type of ceiling and window that give the visually open feeling, the user-oriented furniture arrangement that allows using the space efficiently. For the 'cheerful' space, the simple and natural effects should be produced by using closed space that stable. For the 'traditional' space, the natural fishing material having rough texture should be used. For the 'unique' space, the space contained the dynamic feeling by the diagonal or vertical line and the graphic expression in the wall. For the 'congenial' emotional space, basic is the symmetric, stable and simple space. On the other hand, for the material, small size, natural texture or typical and soft materials should be used. For the 'sensuous' space, the dynamic and vertical sense of space should be expressed by the type of ceiling. The most important elements for the space of 'gorgeous' sensibility, is the color.

  • An interesting of desktop air-conditioning system is the Personal Environmental Module(PEM) System. The PEM system allows the occupant to choose the desired temperature, air volume and direction of the discharged air. In this study, the measurements on the age of air and the air change effectiveness, using the tracer gas method, are carried out to analyze the ventilation performance for provision of fresh air near the breathing zone by the PEM. The relations between the PEM for optimal control and other factors related to indoor air quality, and the ventilation for the PEM are examined. Also, three different supply diffuser types(desktop, floor and ceiling) are compared in view of their ability to distribute supply air to the workstation breathing zone. The desktop diffuser type could deliver air directly to the occupants breathing zone with a high degree of effectiveness. The minimum local age of air was measured in the breathing zone, which is directly supplied with air from the PEM diffusers, and the measured local air change effectiveness of the desktop diffuser in the breathing zone was about 1.13 to 1.23 times greater than that of the ceiling and floor diffusers. When the minimum outside air change rate as specified using ASHRAE Standard 62R is supplied with a desktop diffuser type, the volume of outside air can be reduced 13 to 23%, resulting in a commensurate in ventilation energy use.

  • The purpose of this study is to observe the visualization of the flow field for air flow distributed in the car from the ventilation fan installed in the ceiling of the passenger elevator car through the numerical analysis using computational fluid dynamics. STAR-CCM+, which is a code used for the numerical analysis, was used to predict the airflow distribution inside the elevator car. The numerical analysis of the distribution of the air current in the elevator was carried out. As a result, the analysis results for each point and the visualization of the air current distribution and the temperature distribution in the elevator car and were obtained. It was found that heat transfer was actively occurring inside the car due to the influence of the flow field discharged from the ventilation vent installed in the ceiling in the elevator car, and especially the convection heat transfer of Model-2 was more active than that of Model-1. As a result, the temperature distribution inside the car was found to be relatively low. In addition, the temperature distribution at a cross-section of 1700mm height in the elevator car shows that Model-2 is the location of the ventilation vent which makes people feel more comfortable.
