This experiment was carried out to investigate the optimum rates of animal excreta(cattle slurry-N) for the highest dry matter production and improve the nutritive values of reed canarygrass with different cutting frequency. The results are summarized as follows; The highest relative dry matter yields for annual dry matter yield were 42.2% and 45.2% at 3rd cut in 3 and 4 cuttings, and 34.7% at 4th cut in 5 cuttings, respectively. The annual dry matter yields of non slurry-N application plot showed were from 6.8 tons to 8.0 tons/ha in all cutting frequencies. The highest annual dry matter yield obtained was in 3 cuttings. The annual dry matter yield increased with an increase of applied rates of slurry-N in all cutting frequencies. Annual dry matter yield was produced by 3.3 tons/ha at rates of 90 kg N/ha/cut in 3 cuttings, and more 1.7 tonsha and 2.4 tons/ha at rates of 30 kg N/ha/cut in 4 and 5 cuttings than that of non slurry-N application plots. The contents of crude protein were 12.01% and 15.0% at rates of 90 kg N/ha/cut in 3 and 4 cuttings, and 16.59% at rates of 120 kg N/ha/cut in 5 cuttings, respectively. On the contrary, the content of acid detergent fibre(ADF) showed the lowest values at same rates of slurry-N application in each cutting. J. The average content of crude protein was significantly increased with cutting frequencies, and they were 11.43%, 13.53% and 15.53% in 3, 4 and 5 cuttings, respectively. The average contents of acid detergent fibre(ADF) were 40.27%, 40.53% and 37.06% in 3, 4 and 5 cuttings. The values of 5 cuttings were significantly lower than other cutting frequencies, but the values of acid detergent fibre(ADF) was not significantly different between 3 and 4 cuttings. 6. The efficiency of dry matter production to slurry-N application rates showed the highest values of 18.9 kg and 15.7 kg DM/kg N at rates of 30 kg N/ha/cut in 3 and 5 cuttings, and 16.3 kg DM/kg/ N at rates of 90 kg N/ ha/cut in 4 cuttings. The efficiency of total nitrogen yield to slurry-N application rates were the highest values of 0.51 kg and 0.43 kg W k g N at rates of 30 kg N/ha/cut in 4 and 5 cuttings, and 0.52 kg TN/kg N at rates of 90 kg N/ha/cut in 3 cuttings, respectively. 7. The ranges of economic slurry-N rates were estimated as the 107.2-151.0 kglha, 359.1-375.7 kgha and 160.3-236.9 kg/ha in 3, 4 and 5 cuttings, and marginal dry matter yields were 9.6-10.0 tons/ha, 12.4-12.6 tons/ha and 9.0-9.7 tons/ha in 3, 4 and 5 cuttings, respectively. 8. The limiting sluny-N application rates to maintain the highest dry matter yields were estimated to be 420.0 kg/ ha, 440.6 kg/ha and 666.3 kg/ha in 3, 4 and 5 cuttings.
Anaerobic digestion(AD) is the most promising method for treating and recycling of different organic wastes, such as organic fraction of municipal solid waste, household wastes, animal manure, agro-industrial wastes, industrial organic wastes and sewage sludge. During AD, i.e. organic materials are decomposed by anaerobic forming bacteria and fina1ly converted to excellent fertilizer and biogas which is a mixture of carbon dioxide and methane. AD has been one of the leading technologies that can make a large contribution to produce renewable energy and to reduce $CO_2$ and other green-house gas(GHG) emission, it is becoming a key method for both waste treatment and recovery of a renewable fuel and other valuable co-products. Currently some 80% of the world's overall energy supply of about 400 EJ per year in derived from fossil fuels. Nevertheless roughly 10~15% of this demand is covered by biomass resources, making biomass by far the most important renewable energy source used to date. The representative biofuels produced from the biomass are bioethanol, biodiesel and biogas, and currently biogas plays a smaller than other biofuels but steadily growing role. Traditionally anaerobic digestion applied for different biowaste e.g. sewage sludge, manure, other organic wastes treatment and stabilization, biogas has become a well established energy resource. However, the biowaste are fairly limited in respect to the production and utilization as renewable source, but the plant biomass, the so called "energy crops" are used for more biogas production in EU countries and the investigation on the biomethane potential of different crops and plant materials have been carried out. In Korea, with steadily increasing oil prices and improved environmental regulations, since 2005 anaerobic digestion was again stimulated, especially on the biogasification of different biowastes and agro-industrial biomass including "energy crops". This study have been carried out to investigate anaerobic biodegradability by the biochemical methane potential(BMP) test of animal manures, different forage crops i.e. "energy crops", plant and industrial organic wastes in the condition of thermophilic temperature, The biodegradability of animal manure were 63.2% and 58.2% with $315m^3CH_4/tonVS$ of cattle slurry and $370m^3CH_4/tonVS$ of pig slurry in ultimate methane yields. Those of winter forage crops were the range 75% to 87% with ultimate methane yield of $378m^3CH_4/tonVS$ to $450m^3CH_4/tonVS$ and those of summer forage crops were the range 81% to 85% with ultimate methane yield of $392m^3CH_4/tonVS$ to $415m^3CH_4/tonVS$. The forge crops as "energy crops" could be used as good renewable energy source to increase methane production and to improve biodegradability in co-digestion with animal manure or only energy crop digestion.

Experiments were conducted on established grassland sward at Gongiam, Kwangju, and Kyung-gi in Korea from 1995 to 1997. The influence of mineral-N fertilizer or animal manure(AW) on herbage dry matter(DM) yield, N yield, the recovery of AM-N, and soil N and organic matter(0M) content in the mixed sward('potomac' orchardgrass, 'fawn' tall fescue, and 'kenblue' Kentuky bluegrass) was investigated. The treatments were replicated three times in a split plot block design. AM(the main plots) was applied at 200kg N ha ' year ' on each plot. The types of AM were cattle feedlot manure(CFM), pig manure fermented with sawdust(PMFS) and Korea native cattle slurry(KNCS). Three levels of mineral-N fertilizer, as urea, ranging from 0 to 200kg N $ha^{-1}\;year^{-1}$ in 100kg increments, were superimposed on each plot. The fertilizers and AM were applied in two equal dressings(the end of March and middle of November). AM and mineral fertilizer had significant effects(p<0.05) on herbage DM and N yields. Herbage yields in KNCS were higher than those in CFM and PMFS(p

Mineralization is an important biological process for conversion of organic nitrogen (N) to inorganic N which can be used by plants directly. To investigate the effect of different manures on soil mineralization, the soil amended with cattle (CtM), goat (GM), chicken manure (ChM) and pig slurry (PS) were incubated under in vitro condition and ammonium N ($NH_4{^+}-N$), ammonification rate and ammonia emission were determined for eighty-four days. $NH_4{^+}-N$ was the highest in PS-amended soil for the whole experimental period. $NH_4{^+}-N$ in PS-amended soil was gradually decreased until day 84, whereas it was rapidly decreased for the first 14 days and then slightly increased until 84 days in ChM-, CtM- and GM-amended soil. The ammonification rate showed negative value for the first 14 days in all treatments. From day 14, ammonification rate started to increase in CtM- and ChM-amended soil, whereas it was maintained in GM- and PS-amended soil until day 84. The daily ammonia emission was the highest in PS-amended soil ($41mg\;kg^{-1}d^{-1}$), followed by CtM-, ChM-, and GM-amended soil at day 1. It was gradually decreased until day 84 in all treatments. The total $NH_3$ emission was the highest in PS-amended soil with $0.6mg\;kg^{-1}$ for 84 days, while less than $0.1mg\;kg^{-1}$ in three other plots. These results indicate that different manures showed different soil ammonification rate and $NH_3$ emission.

Experiment was carried out to determine the agronomic characteristics, forage yield of silage corn(Zea mays L.) soil chemical characterictics and $NO_3-N$ level in infiltration water by different application rates of daily liquid manures. Four treatment consisting of chemical fetilizer, $200kg\;N\;ha^{-1}$, daily liquid manure $200kg\;N\;ha^{-1}$, $300kg\;N\;ha^{-1}$ and $400kg\;N\;ha^{-1}$ were arranged in a randonmized complete block design with three replicates. The results obtained at National Livestock Research Institute, RDA., in Suwon from 1996 to 1997 are summarized as follows; In plant height and crude protein content, it were appeared to highest by 264cm, 6.8% at the cattle slurry 150% plot(T3), respectively. but Dry matter yield(14.5MT/ha) and TDN(9.5MT/ha) production of chemical fertilizer plot(T1) were highest. Among daily liquid manure amount, dry matter yield(14.0MT/ha) and TDN yield(9.1MT/ha) of daily liquid manure 100% plot(T2) were resulted to 96% and 97% of chemical fertilizer plot(T1). End year's soil organic matter and phosphate content were appeared to high than those of beginning year in daily liquid manure plots, but it was not in proportioned to increase according to slurry amount. $NO_3-N$ level in infiltration water lower than 60cm of all plots were lowed than a permitted limit of cattle drinkable. As a result, it was appeared that the optimum application amount of dairy liquid manure was 200kg/ha by manure-N.

This study carried out to investigate the effects of the types of animal manure and the dogies of the slope on productivity of com and the runoff of nitrogen and phosphorus in corn cultivation soil. Main plots were consisted of the degrees of slope, such as $0\%\;9\%$ and $18\%$ and the subplots on consisted of the types of animal manure, such as chemical fertilizer (CF), compost of swine manure fermented with sawdust (CSMFS), and cattle slurry (CS). Erosion was constructed with 0.33 m width, 3 m length and 0.4 m height. The results obtained were summarized as follows; 1. Dry matter(DM) yield of corn decreased by an enhancement of the degrees of slope DM yield reveals that there is an increase in order CS > CF > CSMFS. 2. Nitrogen contents of the whole corn reveals that there is an increase in order CF>CS>CSMFS. However, nitrogen content was not affected by the degrees of slope. 3. Nitrogen yields (NY) of com decreased by an enhancement of the degrees of slope. NY of CS increased more than 2.0 fold as compared CSMFS. 4. Mineral nitrogen content in the runoff during the experiment was hardly influenced by both the degrees of slope and the types of animal manure. 5. $NO_3$ - N in the runoff during the experiment increased by an enhancement of the degrees of slope. 6. In the degrees of slope used in this experiment, $NH_4$-N and $PO_4$-P content in runoff was lower than 8 ug / ul and 1 ug/ul, respectively.
Nitrogen included in animal manure can be used as organic fertilizer if it is treated properly but it may cause serious air and water pollution without proper management. Significant amount of nitrogen losses happen in the form of ammonia when the manure staying in animal house and storage facilities and being composted and applied to the field. In order to maximize the manure nitrogen utilization, it is important to understand the mechanisms of nitrogen loss during the diverse manure handling and treatment procedures. The plant available nitrogen portion of total nitrogen in excreted manure was evaluated based on animal type, animal manure collection system, manure treatment process, and application method. About 27% of nitrogen included in excreted pig manure could be plant available if it is applied to the filed after composting process. The plant available nitrogen portion varies from 29% (surface application) to 54% (solid injection) based on application method of digestated piggery slurry. Plant can use 18% of manure nitrogen if the composted cattle and poultry manure applied to the field using surface application method. Manure treatment and application methods need to be carefully selected to control and utilize the manure nitrogen properly.

The experimental work was conducted to determine the growth characteristics, yield and feed value of sorghum-sudangrass hybrid and $NO_{3^-}N$ leaching by application of various types of livestock manure (LM) at National Livestock Research Institute, Suwon, for 3years (2003-3005). The growth characteristics in chemical fertilizer (CF) was better than others in general. The growth characteristic of sorghum-sudangrass hybrid by the various type of LM was good in order of composted swine manure (CSM) > liquid swine manure (LSM) > composted cattle manure (CSM), whereas the growth characteristics by application level of LM was good in order of LM 100%+CF 25%>LM 75%+CF 25%>LM 100%. Dry matter(DM) yield in LSM and CSM increased by 23% and 18% respectively while DM yield in CCM decreased 24% as compared to CF. Moreover total digestible nutrients (TDN) in LSM and CSM increased by 24% and 18% respectively while TDN in CCM decreased 12% as compared to CF. Crude protein and relative feed value in LM decreased compared to those in CF. $NO_{3^-}N$ leaching by application level of LM showed that there was an increase in order of LM 100%+ CF 25%>LM 75%+CF 25%>LM 100%. Also the high concentration of $NO_{3^-}N$ occurred shortly after application of LM.
