The electrodeposition of Zn on the automotive parts has been adapted However, because Zn electrodeposit needs to increase thickness for corrosion protection, it has problem of destruction of electrodeposit Zn-based electrodeposit have teen studied for corrosion protection and decreasing electrodeposit thickness. Especially; Zn-Co electrodeposit have much attention In this study, the Composition of Zn-Co electrodeposit in various manufacturing condition such as temperature, current density and electrolyte content was investigated to understand effect of electrolysis condition on Co content of specimen. The results were explained by cathode overvoltage and diffusion coefficient. As the current density increases, the electrolyte temperature decreases, and as the electrolyte concentration decreases, the overvoltage of the cathode increases. As the overvoltage of the cathode increases, the concentration polarization becomes more important than the activation polarization. Concentration polarization is determined by the diffusion of the mass transfer in the diffusion layer. In a constant concentration polarization, a large amount of elements with a large diffusion coefficient is diffused. That is, as the overvoltage of the cathode increases, the Zn content having a large diffusion coefficient increases.

The sealed nickel-metal hydride (Ni-MH) secondary battery are primarily used as energy storage for the HEV. But, the research on Ni-MH battery has focused on anode materials. In the present study, we investigate to improve the electrochemical characteristics of Ni-MH batteries using the surface treatment of $Ni(OH)_2$ cathode by CoOOH. Surface treated $Ni(OH)_2$ cathode showed significant improvement in the activation behavior, rate capability, charge retention, and cycle life of the batteries were significantly improved. In addition, the surface treated electrode exhibited the higher overvoltage for oxygen evolution than the untreated electrode. This phenomenon indicates that the charge efficiency can be improved by suppressing the oxygen evolution on cathode.
In the industry, galvanizing using the principle of sacrificial anode is used Zn-Ni alloy plating was developed as one of the measures to increase the corrosion resistance rather than pure zinc plating. The alloy plating layer has a corrosion resistance of 4-5 times that of the pure zinc plating layer, so that it is applied to automotive parts requiring high corrosion resistance even though the plating cost is high. The amount of Zn-Ni alloy plating solution is a sulfuric acid bath, a chlorinated bath, an alkali bath, and an ammonia bath. Here, the influence of the electrolytic conditions on the composition of the alloy plating in the chloride bath was investigated. The results are explained by the cathode overvoltage and the diffusion coefficient. In general, as the overvoltage of the cathode increases, the concentration polarization becomes more important than the activation polarization. The concentration polarization is determined by element diffusion in the diffusion layer. That is, as the overvoltage of the cathode increases, the Zn content having a large diffusion coefficient increases.

The cathode design is one of the most important parts in order to enhance the performance of fuel cells. A 3-D model of the porous oxygen reducing cathode with perforated current collectors is analysed for the enhanced design in fuel cells. Simulation is performed using equations of electric potential balance, momentum balance, and mass balance. The gas concentrations are quite large and are significantly affected by the reactions that take place. The weight fraction of oxygen, velocity field for the gas phase, and local overvoltage are illustrated in the porous reactive cathode layer. The current density is also analysed and the result shows the distribution and variation are stated in a wide range. It is found that the rate of reaction and the current production is higher beneath the orifice, and decreases as the distance to the gas inlet increases. The significance of the results is discussed in the viewpoint of the mass transportation phenomena, which is inferred that the mass transport of reactants dictates the efficiency of the electrode in this design and at these conditions.
In the industry, Zn galvanizing on the steel using the principle of sacrificial anode is used. The steel have some problem, specially corrosion problem. To solve corrosion problem, Zn-Mn alloy plating has been studied as one of the measures to increase the corrosion resistance rather than pure zinc plating. It is possible to be applied to automotive parts requiring high corrosion resistance even though the plating cost is high. In this study, Zn-Mn alloys were electrodeposited from an acidic chloride bath. The influence of the electrolytic conditions on the composition of the alloy plating in the chloride bath was investigated. As the current density of the cathode increases, Zn content of electrodeposit decrease and Mn content of electrodeposit increase. As the temperature of the electrolyte increases, Zn content of electrodeposit decrease and Mn content of electrodeposit increase. The results are explained by the cathode overvoltage curve of Mn and Zn.
The co-firing processes for the supported type planar solid oxide fuel cell were investigated. A flat cell of $7.7${\times}$10.8\textrm{cm}^2$ was fabricated successfully by the co-firing process, in which green films were co-sintered in the forms of two layers of anode/electrolyte or of three layers of anode/electrolyte/cathode with gas distributor. A co-fired cell of two layers yielded a power of 200 ㎽/$\textrm{cm}^2$ at 608 ㎷. Its performance loss was mainly due to iR drop in the anodic gas distributor, which was attributed to poor contact between anodic gas distributor and current collector. The performance in the co-fired cell of three layers was much lower than that of two layers, which resulted from the large iR drop and activation overvoltage at the cathodic side. In the co-fired cell of two layers, the impedance analysis indicated that the performance decay during cell operation is due to both anode overvoltage and iR drop at anode side. Also the electrode reaction of the co-fired two layers' cell is considered to be controlled by activation overvoltage within the low current of 50 ㎃.
The fabrication process for ceramic fuel cell with a large electrode area was investigated. A cofired cell of two layer, electrolyte/anode, yielded a power of $200mW/cm^2$. Its performance loss was mainly due to iR drop in the anode side. The performance of the cofired of three layer. cathode/electrolyte/ anode, was much lower than that of two layer, which resulted from the large iR drop and overvoltage at the cathode side. Also a flat cell with a large area of $7.7{\times}10.8cm^2$ was fabricated successfully and tested using ceramic and metallic interconnectors. The large cell with metallic interconnectror showed a good performance of 0.6 V, 4.5 A.
Carbon-coated $Li_3V_2(PO_4)_3-LiMnPO_4$ composite cathode materials are first reported in this work, prepared by the mechanochemical process with a complex metal oxide as the precursor and sucrose as the carbon source. X-ray diffraction pattern of the composite material indicates that both olivine $LiMnPO_4$ and monoclinic $Li_3V_2(PO_4)_3$ co-exist. We further investigated the electrochemical properties of our $Li_3V_2(PO_4)_3-LiMnPO_4$ composite cathode materials using galvanostatic charging/discharging tests, where our $Li_3V_2(PO_4)_3-LiMnPO_4$ composite electrode materials exhibit the charge/discharge efficiency of 91.9%, while $Li_3V_2(PO_4)_3$ and $LiMnPO_4$ exhibit the efficiency of 87.7 and 86.7% in the first cycle. The composites display unique electrochemical performances in terms of overvoltage and cycle stability, displaying a reduced gap of 141.6 mV between charge and discharge voltage and 95.0% capacity efficiency after $15^{th}$ cycles.
The steel has been used in modern industry, car maker and electric appliance. The steel have some problem, specially corrosion problem. To solve corrosion problem, Zn electrodeposit on steel have been adapted. Recently, The modern industry asks to increase corrosion resistance. Naturally, Increasing corrosion resistance increases the thickness of Zn electrodeposit. But increasing thickness of Zn electrodeposit has some problems. In making part, There are some crack. This crack cause to decrease corrosion resistance. To solve this problem, it is interested in Zn Based alloy electrodeposit such as Zn-Cr. Here, the influence of the electrolytic conditions on the composition of the alloy plating in the chloride bath was investigated. The results are explained by the cathode overvoltage curve of Cr and Zn. As the current density of the cathode increases, Zn content of electrodeposit decrease and Cr content of electrodeposit increase. As the temperature of the electrolyte increases, Zn content of electrodeposit decrease and Cr content of electrodeposit increase.

Nickel is a commercially important and versatile element in electroplating. The applications of nickel electroplating fall into three main categories: decorative, functional and electroforming. In decorative applications, electroplated nickel is most often applied in combination with electrodeposited chromium. Nickel is deposited on surfaces to improve corrosion and wear resistance or modify magnetic and other properties. Electroforming is electroplating applied to the fabrication of products of various kinds. Nickel is deposited onto a substrate and then removed from it to create a part made entirely of nickel. In this study, mechanical property of Ni electrodeposits in various manufacturing condition such as temperature, current density, pH and electrolyte content, was investigated to understand effect of electrolysis condition on mechanical property. Vickers hardness increased as the temperature and pH increased and current density and electrolyte content decreased and pH increased. The results were explained by cathode overvoltage and hydrogen evolution.
