BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases were first reported in December 2019, in China, and an increasing number of cases have since been detected all over the world. The purpose of this study was to collect significant news media reports on food services during the COVID-19 crisis and identify public communication and significant concerns regarding COVID-19 for suggesting future directions for the food industry and services. SUBJECTS/METHODS: News articles pertaining to food services were extracted from the home pages of major news media websites such as BBC, CNN, and Fox News between March 2020 and February 2021. The retrieved data was sorted and analyzed using Python software. RESULTS: The results of text analytics were presented in the format of the topic label and category for individual topics. The food and health category presented the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on food and health, such as an increase in delivery services. The policy category was indicative of a change in government policy. The lifestyle change category addressed topics such as an increase in social media usage. CONCLUSIONS: This study is the first to analyze major news media (i.e., BBC, CNN, and Fox News) data related to food services in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. Text analytics research on the food services domain revealed different categories such as food and health, policy, and lifestyle change. Therefore, this study contributes to the body of knowledge on food services research, through the use of text analytics to elicit findings from media sources.
Author name disambiguation is essential for improving performance of document indexing, retrieval, and web search. Author name disambiguation resolves the conflict when multiple authors share the same name label. This paper introduces a novel approach which exploits ontologies and WordNet-based category utility for author name disambiguation. Our method utilizes author knowledge in the form of populated ontology that uses various types of properties: titles, abstracts and co-authors of papers and authors' affiliation. Author ontology has been constructed in the artificial intelligence and semantic web areas semi-automatically using OWL API and heuristics. Author name disambiguation determines the correct author from various candidate authors in the populated author ontology. Candidate authors are evaluated using proposed WordNet-based category utility to resolve disambiguation. Category utility is a tradeoff between intra-class similarity and inter-class dissimilarity of author instances, where author instances are described in terms of attribute-value pairs. WordNet-based category utility has been proposed to exploit concept information in WordNet for semantic analysis for disambiguation. Experiments using the WordNet-based category utility increase the number of disambiguation by about 10% compared with that of category utility, and increase the overall amount of accuracy by around 98%.

The purpose of this thesis is to suggest a Practical Plan for ethical consumption by reviewing the category of Vegan Fashion and investigating its Social Value of vegan fashion. This will be achieved through investigating the papers and official home pages of 13 selected Vegan Fashion brands. It was found that in terms of use of materials such as leather, fur and organic fibers the brands can be divided into three sections: fur-free, cruelty-free and perfect vegan. A Practical Plan is suggested based on the aspects of production, consumption, distribution and education. Firstly, the provider should be required to understand vegan materials deeply, it is also desirable for them to get vegan certifications. Secondly, the seller should also understand about vegan materials, and be able to explain this to consumers. The education from the seller is vital and the meaning of logos and associated contents used by the label should be clearly explained to consumers. Thirdly, the association of consumers, and fashion brands should cooperate to enhance the level of general understanding in society further, this should influence new laws, that address ethical issues regarding the use of fur in fashion. Environmental problem of the future might be reduced if the stakeholders in Vegan Fashion are cooperatively and actively trying to educate the general population and make Vegan Fashion popular and ethical consumption popular.
15 carbon footprint product (CFP) schemes, including Korea Carbon Footprint Label, UK Carbon Trust's Carbon Reduction Label and Japan CFP are implemented in the world. A CFP describes green house gases (GHGs) emissions emitted throughout product's life cycle and is intended to reduce GHGs emissions by labeling a CFP result on product. This study calculates Korea, UK and Japan CFP result of vacuum cleaner, detergent, packagin material in order to analyze the Korea, UK and Japan CFP standards. Our results demonstrate significant differences among then calculated results because of criteria, emission factors, etc. Therefore, there are many difficulties in providing various CFP results and the international standard and guidelines for product category are needed.

Objective: This study investigated the age at which monolingual children can understand that different languages are different conventional systems of communication. In particular, we investigated when children can suspend using the mutual exclusivity (ME) assumption that a label solely refers to one category when interpreting novel words from foreign languages. Methods: Two-year-olds (n = 16) and 3-year-olds (n = 16) participated in the procedure, which consisted of three blocks. In the first block, a Korean speaker taught the children a novel word, muppi, referring to a novel object. The children were presented with two objects, muppi and another novel object. The Korean speaker then asked the children to find a referent of either muppi or the other novel Korean label, kkati. In the second block, a foreign language (either English or Spanish) speaker asked children to find the object for a foreign novel word, sefo, presenting two objects: muppi and the third novel object, which had not been presented before. The procedure of the third block was identical to that of the first block. Results: Three-year-olds exploited the ME assumption when interpreting a Korean novel word but not when interpreting a foreign novel word. In contrast, 2-year-old children did not use the ME assumption when interpreting native and foreign words. Conclusion: Children acquire an understanding that native and foreign languages have different words for an object at least by 3 years of age.

Marine accidents have always caused huge economic losses, as well as environmental pollution. Prevention of marine accidents has become a focus of argumentation. The analysis of past accident cases, reviewing the experience and lessons, is important and necessary for preventing marine accidents. With the same subject above, the Korean Maritime Safety Tribunal provides for past marine accidents' written judgments and analysis of judgment and associated retrieval system on its homepage. In these systems, the name of the ship, accident occurrence time, accident pattern or related keywords are used as search conditions. However, most of the marine events' happening were not due to a single reason, but multiple ones. In addition, one marine event could often come under several categories. In this case, now the retrieval systems' DB is used on the Korean Maritime Safety Tribunal homepage was built based on single category and failed to be able to retrieve according to multiple reasons or multiple categories. In order to solve this problem, a more practical retrieval approach might be needed. Therefore, in this paper, a new retrieval system will be proposed, which using the linguistic label to describe the cluster after analyzing the relational properties between marine accidents and clustering by FCM algorithm, and then adding an interface to allow users to get the results they want through choosing multiple reasons or multiple categories.
This study suggests a few solutions to improve the post-monitoring activities under the Energy Efficiency Labeling Program. First, samples should be selected from each category for the post-monitoring activities, taking account of the consumer's continuous buying behavior, while it is also important to form and operate a deliberation committee. Second, it is necessary to alleviate the checking process of the label content of 9 items which have never been violated the labeling regulation since 2005. This study suggests the detailed checking of label contents and the reinforcement of the measurement of 17 items which have violated labeling more than once over the past few years. Third, this study suggests that the entire post-monitoring process should be disclosed and be posted on the websites of related agencies and on the Internet in general.
The study examined the post-monitoring programs under the energy efficiency labeling program in developed countries. This study suggests a few solutions to improve the post-monitoring activities under the program. First, samples should be selected from each category for the post-monitoring activities, taking account of the consumer's continuous buying behavior. Second, it is necessary to check of detailed label contents and to perform the frequent monitoring the reinforcement of the measurement of items which have violated labeling more than once over the past few years. Last, this study suggests that the entire post-monitoring process should be disclosed and be posted on the websites on the internet in general.
