Dielectric Changes During the Curing of Epoxy Resin Based on the Diglcidyl Ether of Bisphenol A (DGEBA) with Diamine

  • The curing characteristics of diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A (DGEBA) with diaminodiphenylmethane (DDM) as a curing agent were studied using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), rheometrics mechanical spectrometry (RMS), and dielectric analysis (DEA). The isothermal curing kinetics measured by DSC were well represented with the generalized auto-catalytic reaction model. With the temperature sweep, the inverse relationship between complex viscosity measured by RMS and ionic conductivity obtained from DEA was established indicating that the mobility of free ions represented by the ionic conductivity in DEA measurement and the chain segment motion as revealed by the complex viscosity measured from RMS are equivalent. From isothermal curing measurements at several different temperatures, the ionic conductivity contribution was shown to be dominant in the dielectric loss factor at the early stage of cure. The contribution of the dipole relaxation in dielectric loss factor became larger as the curing further proceeded. The critical degrees of cure, at which the dipolar contribution in the dielectric loss factor starts to appear, increases as isothermal curing temperature is increased. The dielectric relaxation time at the same degree of cure was shorter for a sample cured at higher curing temperature.

패키지형 소형 SCR 시스템 내 $NH_3$ 농도분포 제어를 위한 AIG의 배치에 관한 전산해석적 연구 (Numerical Study on the Arrangement of AIG for Determining the $NH_3$ Concentration Distribution in the Package Type of Small Scale SCR System)

  • 소규모의 대기오염 배출원으로부터 질소산화물을 저감하는 방법으로 제안된 패키지형 SCR (selective catalytic reduction) 시스템 내에서 암모니아 농도제어에 관한 연구가 시행되었다. SCR 시스템의 효율은 촉매층의 효율적인 활용에 좌우되며 촉매층의 효율적인 사용은 시스템에 유입되는 배기가스의 유동균일도와 암모니아 농도의 균일도에 의해 좌우된다. 본 연구에서는 주어진 최적의 유동조건에서 SCR 시스템 내에 배치된 AIG 형상과 분사 유량 조정에 따른 암모니아 농도분포를 평가하였다. 기본 유동조건에서 분사구의 각도에 따른 전산해석 결과, 배가스 유동에 대해 동류방향($0^{\circ}$)으로 암모니아를 분사한 경우의 농도분포의 RMS(%) 수치는 약 95.3%, 대향방향인 $120^{\circ}$의 각도를 가지는 경우 90.1%로 파악되어 대향방향으로의 분사가 더 효율적인 것으로 파악되었다. 유동박리영역에서 벗어나도록 분사구의 위치를 변경하고 기초계산에서의 속도분포와 농도분포를 기준으로 환원제 유량을 조정한 결과 RMS(%) 수치를 최대 62.8%까지 하강시키는 효과를 가져왔다. AIG 형상 및 배치구조에 혼합증진의 효과를 정리하였다.

Cu/γ - Al2O3 촉매를 적용한 벤젠산화반응특성 (Benzene Oxidation Characteristics of Cu/γ - Al2O3 Catalyst)

  • 본 연구에서는 ${\gamma}-Al_2O_3$에 구리를 함침시킨 촉매를 고정층 반응기에 충전시킨 후 휘발성유기물질(VOCs)인 벤젠의 촉매산화 반응특성을 살펴보았다. 실험조건은 반응온도 $200{\sim}500^{\circ}C$, 벤젠의 농도 400~650 ppm, 가스유입량 50~100 cc/min, 공간속도 $7,500{\sim}22,500hr^{-1}$의 범위로 적용하였다. BET분석, 주사전자현미경(SEM), 열천칭(TGA) 분석을 통해 제조된 촉매의 물성을 조사하였으며, 벤젠의 촉매산화반응의 전환율에 대하여 고찰하였다. 실험결과, 벤젠의 농도와 공간속도가 낮아질수록 벤젠 산화반응의 전환율은 증가함을 알 수 있었다. 벤젠의 촉매산화반응은 1차 균일반응으로 해석될 수 있었으며, 반응의 활성화 에너지(Ea)는 17.2 kcal/mol, 빈도인자(A)는 $1.33{\times}10^6sec^{-1}$이었다.

Casein kinase 2 promotes the TGF-β-induced activation of α-tubulin acetyltransferase 1 in fibroblasts cultured on a soft matrix

  • Cell signals for growth factors depend on the mechanical properties of the extracellular matrix (ECM) surrounding the cells. Microtubule acetylation is involved in the transforming growth factor (TGF)-β-induced myofibroblast differentiation in the soft ECM. However, the mechanism of activation of α-tubulin acetyltransferase 1 (α-TAT1), a major α-tubulin acetyltransferase, in the soft ECM is not well defined. Here, we found that casein kinase 2 (CK2) is required for the TGF-β-induced activation of α-TAT1 that promotes microtubule acetylation in the soft matrix. Genetic mutation and pharmacological inhibition of CK2 catalytic activity specifically reduced microtubule acetylation in the cells cultured on a soft matrix rather than those cultured on a stiff matrix. Immunoprecipitation analysis showed that CK2α, a catalytic subunit of CK2, directly bound to the C-terminal domain of α-TAT1, and this interaction was more prominent in the cells cultured on the soft matrix. Moreover, the substitution of alanine with serine, the 236th amino acid located at the C-terminus, which contains the CK2-binding site of α-TAT1, significantly abrogated the TGF-β-induced microtubule acetylation in the soft matrix, indicating that the successful binding of CK2 and the C-terminus of α-TAT1 led to the phosphorylation of serine at the 236th position of amino acids in α-TAT1 and regulation of its catalytic activity. Taken together, our findings provide novel insights into the molecular mechanisms underlying the TGF-β-induced activation of α-TAT1 in a soft matrix.

폐건전지에서 회수된 Mn을 이용한 오존분해 특성 연구 (A Study on the Charateristics for Ozone Decomposition over Recovered Mn from Spent Betteries)

  • 본 연구에서는, 폐건전지로부터 회수된 특정 성분들을 이용하여 오존분해 촉매로서의 적용성을 평가하였다. 폐건전지에서 축출된 성분 중, Mn의 함량이 오존분해 반응에 주요 인자임을 보였다. 또한, Zn 함량에 따라 deactivation rate와 높은 상관성을 나타냈으며, K 함량은 오존분해 반응과 상관성이 없음을 나타냈다. 그리고 $TiO_2$를 첨가하여 제조한 촉매는 Mn 함량의 감소로 인한 효율 저하를 나타냈으며, Mn 구조상의 특징은 오존분해 반응과 상관성이 없음을 나타냈다.

석유정제산업 공정과 공정장비에 기인한 휘발성 유해 대기오염물질(HAPs)의 배출량 산정기법 (Estimation Technique of Volatile Hazardous Air Pollutants(HAPs) Emitted from Petroleum Industrial Process/Equipment)

  • Petroleum refineries have been considered as an important emission source for atmospheric volatile hazardous air pollutants(HAPs). The emission source includes petroleum refinery processes and process equipment. The control strategy for volatile HAPs requires emission estimations of these pollutants. However, systematic methods of volatile HAPs emission from petroleum refineries have not yet been established. Accordingly, present study surveyed the estimation method of volatile HAPs emitted from the petroleum refinery processes and process equipment. The emission estimation methods for the petroleum refinery processes are applied for 11 petroleum refining facilities: fluidized catalytic cracking, thermal cracking, moving bed catalytic cracking, compressed engine, blowdown system, vacuum distilled column condensator, natural gas or distilled boiler, natural gas or distilled heater, oil boiler, oil heater and flare. Four emission estimation methods applied for the petroleum refinery process equipment are as follows: average emission factor approach, screening ranges approach, EPA correlation approach and unit-specific correlation approach. The process equipment for which emission factors are available are valves, pump seals, connectors, flanges and open-ended lines.

Photocurrent Properties of TiO2 Nanorods Grown on FTO by Hydrothermal Method

  • In this work, we undertake a comparative study of the crystallographic microstructures and photo-catalytic properties of rutile $TiO_2$ nanorods grown on FTO facing up and down by a hydrothermal method. An analysis of the fine structures showed that $TiO_2$ nanorods grown on FTO facing up were mixed with sea urchin and microsphere. These structures induced a vertical orientation of the nanorods on FTO. The saturated photocurrent densities of the $TiO_2$ nanorods grown both up and down were $1.5mA/cm^2$ in the former case, the IPCE was increased to 10% at 300~350 nm. The onset potential (${\fallingdotseq}$ flat band potential) of the nanorods grown on FTO facing up is negatively shifted to a value of -0.31 V. This is caused by an increase in the surface state, in this case the number of oxygen vacancies, and by the formation of $Ti^{3+}$. Therefore, the FTO facing direction is considered as a critical factor during the hydrothermal reaction for $TiO_2$ growth so as to develop an efficient photo-catalytic system.

  • Because flow uniformity affects the life cycle and performance of the catalyst, it is an important design factor for selective catalytic reduction (SCR) systems. We examined how the diffuser angle and the area ratio of the inlet of the SCR reactor to the front of the catalyst affect flow uniformity. For the numerical analysis, we used STAR-CCM+, a common CFD software program. Analysis results showed that the larger the area ratio was, the less the flow uniformity was, and that the longer the diffuser length was, the greater the flow uniformity was. When the area ratio was greater than 1:5, the flow uniformity appeared very similar at the front of the catalyst. As a result, the spread time of the exhaust gas increased and the flow velocity decreased.

Purification and Characterization of the Functional Catalytic Domain of PKR-Like Endoplasmic Reticulum Kinase Expressed in Escherichia coli

  • PKR-like endoplasmic reticulum (ER) kinase (PERK) is a type I transmembrane ER-resident protein containing a cytoplasmic catalytic domain with a Ser/Thr kinase activity, which is most closely related to the eukaryotic translation initiation factor-$2{\alpha}$ ($eIF2{\alpha}$) kinase PKR involved in the antiviral defense pathway by interferon. We cloned and expressed the PERK C-terminal kinase domain (cPERK) in Escherichia coli. Like PERK activation in cells under ER stress, wild-type cPERK underwent autophosphorylation when overexpressed in E. coli, whereas the cPERK(K621M) with a methionine substitution for the lysine at amino acid 621 lost the autophosphorylation activity. The activated form cPERK which was purified to near homogeneity, formed an oligomer and was able to trans-phosphorylate specifically its cellular substrate $eIF2{\alpha}$. Two-dimensional phosphoamino acids analysis revealed that phosphorylation of cPERK occurs at the Ser and Thr residues. The functionally active recombinant cPERK, and its inactive mutant should be useful for the analysis of biochemical functions of PERK and for the determination of their three-dimensional structures.

배연탈질설비의 성능향상을 휘한 가스혼합에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Flue Gas Mixing for the Performance Improvement of De-NOx plant)

  • De-NOx facility using Selective Catalytic Reduction method is the most widely applied one that removes NOx from flue gas emitted from combustion facility such as boiler for power generation engine incinerator etc. Reductant $NH_3\;or\;NH_4OH$ is sprayed into flue gas to convert NOx into $H_2O$ and $N_2.$ Good mixing between flue gas and $NH_3$ is the most important factor to increase reduction in catalytic layer and to reduce unreacted NH3 slip. Therefore the development of mixer device for mixing effect is one of the important part for SCR facility. Objectives of this study are to investigate the relation between flow and concentration field by observation at the wake of delta-wing type mixer. At the first stage qualitative measurement of flow field is conducted by flow visualization using laser light sheet in lab. scale wind tunnel. Also we have conducted the quantitative analysis by comparing flow field measurement using LDV with numerical simulation. On the basis of qualitative and quantitative analysis we investigate the dis-tribution of flow and concentration in flow model facility. The results of an experimental and compu-tational examination of the vortex structures shed from delta wing type vortex generator having $40^{\circ}$ angle of attack are presented, The effects of vortex structure on the gas mixing is discussed, too.
