  • Mn-Cu catalysts were tested for selective catalytic reduction of NOx with NH3. Influence of initial reaction temperature was studied for NOx conversion in which reaction temperature was changed three patterns. NOx conversion of catalysts calcined at 200, 300 and $340^{\circ}C$ was measured during the changing temperature. Hydrogen conversion efficiency of calcined catalysts was also measured in the $H_2$-TPR system. The deactivation effect of $SO_2$ on catalyst was investigated with the on-off control of $SO_2$ supply. The catalyst which calcined above $340^{\circ}C$ was somewhat deactivated with thermal shock. The reason of deactivation was draw from the results of surface area and hydrogen conversion.

  • Simultaneous removal technology of particulate/NOx/SOx/HCl using CuO/3Al$_2$O$_3$ㆍ2SiO$_2$catalyst impregnated ceramic candle filters is an advanced air pollution process and provides significantly to reduce hazardous gases emitted from coal-fired power plant. This process uses a high-temperature catalytic filter for integrating SOx and HCl reduction through injection an alkali sorbent (such as hydrated lime or sodium bicarbonate), NOx removal through ammonia injection and selective catalytic reduction (SCR), and particulate collection on the catalytic filter surface. The advantages of the process include : compact integration of the emission control technologies into a single component; easy handling of dry sorbent and by-product; and improved SCR catalytic life due to lowered SOx, HCl and particulate levels. CuO/3Al$_2$O$_3$ㆍ2SiO$_2$ catalyst impregnated ceramic candle filters showed a possibility of simultaneous treatment from results which have ascertained high removal efficiency at various combined gases conditions, and in pilot plant test for 3 months, NO conversion was showed 90% over.

  • Characteristics and catalytic activities of 12-molybdophosphoricacid catalysts modified by ring opening polymerization of tetrahydrofuran (THF) were studied in this work. 12-Molybdophosphoricacid catalysts modified by THF showed higher conversions and product yields than the mother acid in the vapor-phase ethanol conversion. It was believed that the enhanced catalytic activities of modified 12-molybdophosphoricacids were due to structural flexibility of heteropolyanions and weakened hydrogen bond around heteropolyanions. THF interacted with protons and crystalline water molecules of heteropolyacids. The interaction between THF and heteropolyanoins, which crystalline water molecules act as intermediary, was the dominant factor deciding the catalytic activities of modified 12-molybophosphoricacids.

  • An experimental investigation of a microthruster using hydrogen peroxide as a monopropellant is described. The study comprises of preparation method of silver as a catalyst and performance evaluation of a catalytic reaction chamber. Silver was reduced in $H_2$ environment at $500^{\circ}C$. The catalytic reaction chamber was tested to determine the optimum configuration of the catalyst bed. The catalyst bed was made of a glass wafer substrate sputtered with silver and had a length of 20 mm. The conversion rate was measured with various residence time, catalyst bed temperature, catalytic coated area.

  • Alumina-supported catalysts containing different transition metals such as Cu, Cr, Mn, Zn, Co, W were investigated for their activity in the selective oxidation of toluene. Catalytic oxidation of toluene was investigated at atmospheric pressure in a fixed bed flow reactor system over transition metals with $Al_2O_3$ catalyst. The result showed the order of catalytic activities for the complete oxidation of toluene was Mn > Cu> Cr> Co> W> Zn for 5wt.% transition $metals/Al_2O_3$. $Mn/Al_2O_3$ catalysts containing different amount of Mn were characterized by X-ray diffraction spectroscopy for decision of loading amount of metal to alumina. 5 wt.%$Mn/Al_2O_3$ catalyst exhibits the highest catalytic activity, over which the toluene conversion was up to 90% at a temperature of $289^{\circ}C$.

  • Catalytic oxidation of benzene, toluene and xylene (BTX) using regenerated metal oxide catalysts (ZnO-CuO, NiO, $Fe_2O_3$, ZnO, CrO) were investigated in a fixed bed flow reactor to evaluate their feasibility for the purpose of removing volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Four kinds of pre-treatment methods such as gas (air and hydrogen), acid aqueous solution, alkali aqueous solution and cleaning agent were used to find out the optimal regeneration conditions. The physico-chemical properties of the used and regenerated catalysts were characterized by BET and TPR (Temperature Programmed Reduction). The used catalysts showed high conversion ratio and the catalytic ability of toluene oxidation was in the order of ZnO-CuO>$Fe_2O_3$>NiO>ZnO>CrO. We found that the acid aqueous pre-treatment (0.1 N HNO$_3$) was the best way to enhance the catalytic activity of $Fe_2O_3$. In addition, air and hydrogen gas treatment were optimal for NiO and ZnO-CuO catalysts, respectively. Furthermore, the decomposition of BTX depends on the type of a catalyst and a gas molecule.

  • The optimal design of auto-catalyst needs a good compromise between the pressure drop and flow uniformity in the substrate. One of the effective methods to achieve this goal is to use the concept of radially variable cell density. But this method has not been examined its usefulness in terms of chemical behavior and conversion performance. In this work, two-dimensional performance prediction of catalyst coupled with turbulent reacting flow simulation has been used to evaluated the benefits of this method n the flow uniformity and conversion efficiency. The results showed that two cell combination of 93cpsc and 62 cpsc was the most effective for improved pressure drop and conversion efficiency due to balanced space velocity and efficient usage of geometric surface area of channels. It was also found that large temperature difference between the bricks in case that the edge of the frontal face of brick has too much lower cell density(less than 67% of cell density of the center of the brick). This study has also demonstrated that the present computational results show the better prediction accuracy in terms of CO, HC and NO conversion efficiencies compared to those of conventional 1-D adiabatic model by comparison with experimental results.

  • An investigation of the influence of $WO_3$ addition with different precursors and preparation methods on the phase formation and selective catalytic reduction (SCR) efficiency of anatase-$TiO_2$ powders has been carried out. An anatase-$TiO_2$ synthesized by precipitation process was used as a catalyst support. For $WO_3(10wt%)/TiO_2$, the W loading to the $TiO_2$ support led to the lower in anatase to rutile transition temperature to ${\sim}900^{\circ}C$ from $1200^{\circ}C$ of the $TiO_2$ support alone. In the case of $WO_3(10wt%)/TiO_2$ SCR powders obtained from a wet process with ammonium meta-tungstate (AMT) precursor, the highest $NO_X$ conversion efficiency was achieved at $450^{\circ}C$ remaining high efficiency at $500^{\circ}C$, while the same composition prepared from a dry process with $WO_3$ addition showed the lowered efficiency with temperature after reaching the efficiency maximum at $350^{\circ}C$. The same tendency has been found that the $V_2O_5(5wt%)-WO_3(10wt%)/TiO_2$ SCR powders obtained from the wet process with AMT precursor has shown the superior $NO_X$ conversion efficiency over 90 % in a wider temperature range of $300{\sim}500^{\circ}C$.
