  • The cartoon communicates its messages by cartoon semiotics as a vehicle of emotion, face expression, act, glance, and texts along the story. this style of communication showed in the cartoon can be defined as "Cartoon communication style". Since, the cartoon is cultural and social product, an understanding of "Cartoon communication style" plays a major role in understanding culture and society as well as its production and interchange. To understand what is the "Cartoon communication style", systemic and objective research method through "Cartoon Analysis" is required. The study review cognitive tendency of cartoon expression through semiotic analysis of total 35,225 cuts of Korea, Japanese and Chinese published cartoons and consequently, classifies the cartoons by 3 forms - One-Root, One-Idea and One-Style to encode.

  • This study finds out the types and meanings of the cartoon style in digital game. First, this study suggests two types, visual sign and aural sign. The cartoon style of visual sign signify denotative means, that helps user's instant gaming experience. Meanwhile the cartoon style of aural sign strengthens user's identity and immersion. Also it delivers background story of the game. These significations implies the semiological meanings of the cartoon style in digital game, and this study comprehensively handles aspects of the user experience in gaming world, too.

  • This paper to the scene to fit the fluid can be expressed as cartoon-style real-time method is proposed. As a matter of fact the fluid color in the simulation in which both reflection refraction and color tones are different in both cases. This paper light, water, terrain, time, etc. with cartoon-style representation of the fluid, adaptive way is proposed. Experimental implementation of the existing and proposed methods were compared with the results. This cartoon-style rendering of the existing research methods and the proposed method and at the same time using cartoon-style games that can be represented by the entire system could offer.

  • We present a novel approach to producing facial caricature with Simpson cartoon style based on Moving Least Squares (MLS). We take advantage of employing the caricature stylization rule of caricature artist, Justin. Our method allows Simpson-style cartoon character similar to user's features by using Justin's technique, which is a set of caricature stylization rules. Our method transforms input photo image into Simpson style caricature by using MLS approximation. The unique characteristics of user in the photo can be detected by comparing to the mean face feature and the input face feature extracted by AAM(Active Appearance Model). To exaggerate the detected unique characteristics, we set up the exaggeration rules using Justin's technique. In addition, during the cartooning process, user's hairs and accessories are used to the deformed image to make a close resemblance. Our method preserves the reliable and stylized caricature through the exaggeration rules of the actual caricature artist's techniques. From this study, we can easily create a Simpson-style cartoon caricature to resemble user's features by combining a caricature with existing cartoon researches.

  • In this paper, we propose a system to convert a video motion into cartoon-style animation automatically. Our system is a new video cartoon stylization method that can apply natural transformation with satisfying physical constraints. It applies physically reasonable transformation to a selected video object with considering physical information such as momentum, movement direction and force. We construct several deformation scenarios which correspond with traditional animation techniques, then a scenario can be easily selected to apply the effects. Finally, this system gene-rates a dynamic cartoon-style video by timing control and a cartoon rendering technique.

  • This study proposes IMToon(IMage-based carToon) which is an image-based cartoon authoring system using an image processing algorithm. The proposed IMToon allows general users to easily and efficiently produce frames comprising cartoons based on image. The authoring system is designed largely with two functions: cartoon effector and interactive story editor. Cartoon effector automatically converts input images into a cartoon-style image, which consists of image-based cartoon shading and outline drawing steps. Image-based cartoon shading is to receive images of the desired scenes from users, separate brightness information from the color model of the input images, simplify them to a shading range of desired steps, and recreate them as cartoon-style images. Then, the final cartoon style images are created through the outline drawing step in which the outlines of the shaded images are applied through edge detection. Interactive story editor is used to enter text balloons and subtitles in a dialog structure to create one scene of the completed cartoon that delivers a story such as web-toon or comic book. In addition, the cartoon effector, which converts images into cartoon style, is expanded to videos so that it can be applied to videos as well as still images. Finally, various experiments are conducted to verify the possibility of easy and efficient production of cartoons that users want based on images with the proposed IMToon system.

  • Since the arrival of the internet, numerous creative content industries have been active online. In particular, additional training has been necessary due to higher interest in e-Book publishing, and the opening and expansion of the online comics industry. However, as for the study of film grammar, there is a lack of research on lively and diverse expression in cartoon directing. In this study, animation and painting techniques, with examples of cartoons being expressed cartoon is intended to provide the possibility of directing. In addition, the comics industry one source multi user to the related industries is a key element with the value-added industries. So in other media expressed a wide range of research on the techniques of comic culture shall serve as key elements of the content looks.
