  • This paper presents the swing motion analysis of the container crane headblock with the passive control device using hydraulic motors and anti-swing ropes. The device hauls at the headblock to opposite direction of its swing motion using the tension difference between anti-swing ropes connected to the headblock. To consider this control mechanism, the headblock is modelled as the rigid bar suspended by two hoist ropes at the overhead trolley and its non-linear equation of motion is derived using Lagrange's equation. Some numerical experiments using the equation are carried out to investigate the swing motion characteristics of the headblock under the variation of geometric relation among the cargo handling components and to evaluate the performance of the anti-swing device.

  • The influences of the wideness of pram in designing aftbody of container vessels are investigated. The large transverse KM value of the wide pram aftbody is likely to be regarded as having exellent cargo loading capacity. However the remarkable stability loss under the certain wave conditions, unfavorable situation for structural arrangement and the possibilities of poor vibration and speed-power performances should be considered in case of adopting the wide pram aftbody.

  • This paper presents the primary conceptual design results of Smart Harbor. As the world trade becomes active, so container cargo volume is increasing constantly. Since the coming of very large container ships, It's necessary that a harbor handles many containers more than before. Therefore, we designed the new concept of SMART HARBOR which overcomes land site problem for port expansion and geographic constraints of very large container ships in harbor.

  • This paper is related to structural design evaluation of 19,000 TEU ultra large container ship, dealing with hydroelastic response, i.e. springing and whipping. It illustrates application of direct calculation tools and methodologies to both fatigue and ultimate strength assessment, simultaneously taking into account ship motions and her elastic deformations. Methodology for springing and whipping assessment within so called WhiSp notation is elaborated in details, and in order to evaluate innovative container ship design with increased loading capacity, a series of independent hydroelastic computations for container ship with mobile deckhouse and conventional one are performed with the same calculation setup. Fully coupled 3D FEM - 3D BEM model is applied, while the ultimate bending capacity of hull girder is determined by means of MARS software. Beside comparative analysis of representative quantities for considered ships, relative influence of hydroelasticity on ship response is addressed.

  • Through the recent accident, the checking of ultimate hull girder capacity for container ship should be needed. Smith’s method is well known as the only simplified method to access rapidly for ultimate hull girder capacity except very expensive nonlinear F.E approach. This simplified method, however, is admitted to apply only to bulker and tanker in accordance with Classification Rules up to now. The targets of this study are to verify effectiveness of the simplified method for container ship’s ultimate hull girder strength and to propose the safety factor considering the local bending in double bottom structures due to out of plane loads through the nonlinear F.E analyses. Two different sized ships and three loading conditions which are pure bending, homo-loading and one-bay empty condition were used for this study. Based on the F.E results, the present study showed that CSR’s simplified method is available for the ultimate hull girder strength of container ship and over 1.2 of safety factor should be applied to consider the local bending effect in double bottom structures due to out of plane loads such as sea pressure an cargo.

  • Recently the container volume in the global trade is steadily increasing. In an effort to cope with this trend, major ports of the world are stepping up the introduction of high-tech equipments, trying to establish a highly efficient information system, and improving the internal work processes of their container terminals. For speedy and effective cargo handling, they are making every effort in the diverse fields. The purpose of this study aims at developing an intelligent multi-agent system for the gate work of a container terminal, which is the place of authority transfer in a container terminal. The agent system suggested in this study has made a comparison between COPINO information by TOS (Terminal Operating System) and information on containers and trucks recognized at the gate passage, checking up their efficiency, and performing the function of controlling outside truck's input-output. Also, based on the records of outside truck's gate passage, some gates can be operated flexibly, consequently enhancing the efficiency of the gate function. The results of job performance will immediately be notified to the customers and terminal managers, thus helping them make decisions speedily.

  • Recently it has become easier to figure out cargo positional information by using GPS(Global Positioning System) and wireless communication technology. The acceleration of globalization in the shipping logistics is ever more increasing the need to provide visibility, traceability and real time informations of entry, departure of vessel including cargo and status of logistic vehicle entry into each logistic base. Providing such positional information to logistics party by using wireless communication technology can bring effective operation of supply chain and reduction in logistics costs. In the previous paper, I suggested a global location tracking system based on GPS data in global shipping logistics by means of software using GPS data. However, the previous system had a problem of being inadequate to figure out a real time location movement information and was unsatisfactory on quickly searching and checking the location of global logistics hubs according to the longitude and latitude coordinates. Hence, in this paper, I suggest a real-time location tracking system that provided real-time location of the container cargos and logistics hubs can be searched quickly according to the GPS coordinates in global shipping logistics.

  • In this paper, we analyze the trends of the international shipping market and the domestic and foreign factors of the crisis of the domestic shipping market, and identify the characteristics of the recovery of the Busan New Port trade volume which has decreased since the crisis of the domestic shipping market We quantitatively analyzed the future volume of Busan New Port and analyzed the trends of the prediction and recovery trends. As a result of analyzing Busan New Port container cargo volume by using big data analysis tool R, the variation of Busan New Cargo container cargo volume was estimated by ARIMA model (1,0,1) (1,0,1)[12] Estimation error, AICc and BIC were the most optimal ARIMA models. Therefore, we estimated the estimated value of Busan New Port trade for 36 months by using ARIMA (1, 0, 1)[12], which is the optimal model of Busan New Port trade, and estimated 13,157,184 TEU, 13,418,123 TEU, 13,539,884 TEU, and 4,526,406 TEU, respectively, indicating that it increased by about 2%, 2%, and 1%.

  • This dissertation analysed actuality and literatures aimed at optimizing added value of Busan Port. As far as the literatures are concerned, the limits and the direction to go of Busan Port have been reached through analysing and comparing Busan Port, Antwerp Port, and Rotterdam Port by their each function. While Rotterdam and Antwerp Port are each functioning as an integrated port disposing container freight, general freight and liquid cargo, the container of Busan port contributes over 88 percent of its cargo and the function of the others like bulk is scattered to Ulsan, Masan, and Jinjae Port. Hereby, Busan Port needs to develop its function so as not to duplicate its function with the others in Korea and add value of theirs each. As a result of the local experts about analysing actuality, it turn out that it is similar with the literatures. In macroscopic view, specialization mainly with container, general cargo disposal ability enforcement and etc. are the most important. In microscopic view, rear complex of container tier and the supply base of liquid energy.
