  • Unlike in the past, standards for the quantity and quality of work expected from medical school faculty are continuously rising, causing changes and stress in various areas. This highlights the need for career development among medical school faculty for professional, personal, organizational, and societal reasons. The role of medical school faculty has become more diverse, leading to an increase in the types and levels of competencies required. Medical schools must support their faculty members with diverse identities in fully utilizing their capabilities to achieve the institution's mission. Furthermore, societal changes suggest that career development for medical school faculty will become even more crucial in the future. To achieve this, both individuals and organizations must make efforts and play appropriate roles. For this purpose, medical schools use a combination of promotion and tenure evaluations and faculty development programs, while individual faculty members follow a career path within the medical school environment. Medical school faculty must be able to meet the evolving demands at each stage of their careers. It is important for professors, who engage in career development, to have a clear sense of their identity and values, and to prioritize their career goals. Medical schools should also ensure that the implicit messages they convey align with the organization's explicit values. Finally, proactively preparing for future changes in society and generations is essential from a long-term perspective.

  • Objectives : This study was aimed at exploring career-related characteristics of premedical students in Korean Medicine college and those relationships with career development readiness and vocational value. Methods : A total of 140 premedical students participated in the survey. The questionnaire consisted of demographic characteristics and career-related characteristics such as motive for career choice, specialty preference after college graduation, and school life adaptation. Also they responded in the web-survey of career development readiness inventory and vocational value inventory developed by Korea Research Institute for Vocational Education & Training. Eight items of motive for career choice were collected from the pilot study from 70 premedical students. Results : 'Job stability' was the top motive for career choice(25.5%). The average college life adaptation score was relatively low(13.7) : higher in male(14.3) and the early career decision group(14.2) than female (12.9) and late decision group(12.9), which was statistically significant(p=0.019 and p=0.036, respectively) in the subgroup analyses. The result of career development readiness inventory showed that 'self-knowledge' (79.3) and 'confidence on career decision' (78.6) were the two highest, which is similar to the result of the vocational value inventory ('fulfilling abilities' and 'self-improvement'). More characteristics were also described. Conclusions : The results showed that Korean Medicine premedical students have high vocational identity. This study suggested that more specified studies for identifying career-related characteristics for Korean Medical students should be conducted in order to design systematic and professional medical education programs.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the mediating effect of self-regulation(SR) and the moderating effect of career identity(CI) in predicting academic achievement(AA) by middle school students' achievement value(AV). The subjects were 1,088 male and 970 female students in the third year of middle school. A conditional process analysis using SPSS and Hayes' process macro was conducted. The results were as follows. First, the partial mediation effect of SR was significant in the relationship between AV and AA. Second, the moderating effect of CI was notable in the relationship between AV and SR, and AV and AA respectively. Finally, the mediation effect of AV on AA through SR was found to decrease as CI increased. These results show that supporting the development of CI for students with low AV helps to improve SR and AA. However, as the effect of CI was found to be weaker than the effect of AV or SR on AA, the follow-up research exploring ways to support the achievement value of middle school students are suggested.

  • This study utilized latent growth curve modeling to investigate the trajectories of adolescent life satisfaction changes in middle and high school students. The effects of self-esteem, career identity, school learning activity, gender, and household earnings on life satisfaction changes were examined. Data was obtained from the Korea Child Youth Panel Survey (KYCPS), a longitudinal study following students for 7 years. Year 3-6 data was utilized. Results found that the life satisfaction trajectory resulted as a quadratic model in which individual differences were significant. Second, school learning activity used as a time variant variable had a positive significant effect on life satisfaction each year. Third, gender and self-esteem as time invariant variables had significant effects on initial levels while self-esteem had effects on the slope and quadratic change. Further implications and research issues are discussed.

Reliability of the questionnaire was examined by Cronbach a. The data were analyzed with the SAS program including descriptive statistics, t-test, and one-way ANOVA. Results showed that (1) adolescents living with their parents adapted better to family life than those who lived separately. Those who shared problems with others adapted to school life better than those who didn't. (2) The ego-identity of boys was higher than girls on seven variables. (3) Ego-identity was higher among those who shared their problems. Those living with parents were higher on "general ego-identity," "worth," "social adaptability", and "self-acceptance." Adolescents with higher ego-identity adapted better to family and school life. (4) Father's career was related to "general ego-identity," "values," "social acceptance," and "peculiartity." Higher family income was related to higher ego-identity. Mother's employment was related only to school life. (5) Father's education was related to adaptation both to family and school life.

For this purpose, satisfaction for on-board training and career motivation were used as variables. Satisfaction for on-board training were classified into education, environment and operation, and then measurement items were composed. Career motivation consisted of career identity, career insight and career resilience. To establish and test nine hypotheses, a questionnaire survey was conducted by 57 trainees who participated in the Gyeongsang National University on-board sailing training in 2021. To analyze the questionnaire responses, frequency analysis, factor analysis, multiple regression analysis and paired sample t-test were used. As a result of factor analysis, six factors for satisfaction for on-board training were derived. Among the factors, it was analyzed that satisfaction with assignments, the satisfaction with accommodation, and the satisfaction with the adequate condition of facilities and equipment had a significant effect on career motivation. In addition, it was found that career motivation significantly increased through on-board training as a result of comparing the difference between the averages of career motivation before and after on-board training.

  • This study analyzed a unique method of problem-handling, attitudes, and specific interest propensity in the career path of the type with inconsistency in the relative distance between personality type in Holland's hexagonal model. In-depth interviews and theme analysis with six clients who showed inconsistent personality type were conducted. These six were selected from 87 participants that had received training at the Korea Vocational Counselling Association, Korea Training Institute for Self-Sufficiency and Korea Employment Agency for the Disabled. From the analysis, the six clients with inconsistent 3 Codes showed four characteristics - more than three career experience, various interest pursuits, career involvement, and career identity. They were affected in their vocational behavior by their own Holland 3 Codes and showed vocational behavior very different from Holland's theory of person-environment fit approach. They showed positive, ambivalent and chaotic types on career identity. Furthermore, Conventional(C)-Investigative(I)-Social(S) 3 Codes type and Artistic(A)-Enterprising(E)-Realistic(R) 3 Codes type in the same inconsistent personality type showed different vocational behaviors in career path development, which relates to the meaning of Holland's 3 Codes. The significance of this research lies in its provision of various points for improving career counselling.

Based on total 353 employees obtained from empirical research, this study reviews the reliability and fitness of the research model and verifies a total of 3 hypotheses using the AMOS program. The hypothesized relationships in the model test are also analyzed using a structural equation model(SEM). The proposed model provided an adequate fit to the data, ${\chi}^2$=563.417(p<0.001), df=236, CMIN/DF=2.387, RMR=.070, GFI=.881, AGFI=.848, NFI=.921, CFI=.952, RMSEA=.065. The SEM results show that employees' career management (${\beta}$=.138), career plan ${\beta}$=.284), and career identity (${\beta}$=.437) among employees' career development plans have significant positive effects on person-job fit. Also, employees' career management (${\beta}$=.238) and employees' person-job fit (${\beta}$=.637) have significant positive effects on job satisfaction. Limitations and future research directions are also discussed.
