The Effects of Recognized Career Barriers on Career Decision Level among Students of Majoring in Aviation -Focused on the Mediating Effect of Career Stress- (항공관련학과 전공자의 지각된 진로장벽이 진로결정수준에 미치는 영향 -진로스트레스의 매개효과를 중심으로-)

  • In this study, it examined whether recognized career barriers among students of majoring in aviation affected career stress and career decision level, and career stress moderated the impact of career barriers on career decision level. For this purpose, it conducted a survey of aviation-related college students in C university from Sep. 21th. 2015 to Oct. 8th. 2015. A total of 225 questionnaires were analyzed using SPSS 21.0 statistical package program and frequency analysis, factor analysis, reliability analysis, regression analysis, and correlation analysis were conducted. Findings indicated that career barriers partly influenced the career stress and career decision level. Also, career stress had an negative effect on career decision level. Lastly, career stress moderated the impact of career barriers on career decision level. The implication of this paper would be used as a fundamental material to guide for career direction to students majoring in aviation.

Nursing Students' Awareness of Career Decision-making Self-efficacy, Career Search Behavior and Commitment to Career Choice (간호대학생의 진로결정 자기효능감과 진로탐색행동 및 진로결정몰입에 대한 인식)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate nursing students' awareness of career decision-making self-efficacy, career search behavior and commitment to career choice. Methods: Data were collected using a self-report questionnaire from 397 nursing students in D city from October 1 to October 8, 2014. Results: The average score of career decision-making self-efficacy, career search behavior and commitment to career choice was 3.42, 3.08 and 3.27 on a Likert 5 point-scale respectively. Career decision-making self-efficacy and career search behavior were significantly different according to grade of subject. There were positive correlations between career decision-making self-efficacy, career search behavior and commitment to career choice. Conclusion: It is necessary to develop an effective career support program from 1st grade to improve nursing student's career decision-making self-efficacy, career search behavior and commitment to career choice.

The Effect of a Career Exploration Program Using Career Portfolio on Self-efficacy and Career Identity of Vocational High School Students (커리어포트폴리오를 활용한 진로탐색 프로그램이 전문계 고등학생의 자기효능감 및 진로정체감에 미치는 효과)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of a career exploration program using career portfolio for vocational high school students and suggest ideas for making a decision their career and occupation. The number of subjects in this study were 50 high school students in Busan metropolitan city among which 25 were assigned for the experimental group and 25 in the control group. The career exploration program utilizing career portfolio in this study was composed of 12 sessions utilizing the career portfolio. This program was based on Jeong et al.'s career development program(2005) for high school students and Choi's career exploration program using internet(2005). The instruments of this study were self-efficacy scale and career identity scale. The average, standard deviation and the differences between the pre and post-test were calculated and processed by SPSS WIN 14.0. The major findings of this study can be summarized as follows: First, the career exploration program using career portfolio was effective to enhance significantly the level of the self-efficacy of vocational high school students. Second, the career exploration program using career portfolio was also effective to enhance career identity.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze group differences of Commitment to career choice and Career stress coping strategy by the Career decision and Career preparation behavior for College Students. Through the results of this study we wanted to look for discriminatory implications for the counseling intervention. The data of 720 college students were collected for the study. The distinction of four types was revealed by the results from Crosstabs and One-way ANOVA. The frequency of upper grades indicated ideal type. But the immature type was fourth grade. There were significant differences in accordance with the two-dimensional typology of Commitment to career choice and Career stress coping strategy by One-way ANOVA. Discussion focused on effective intervention strategies in career counseling based on group differences by the Career decision and Career Preparation Behavior.

Relationship between Career Success Perception and Protean Career Management Behavior in Clinical Dental Hygienists

  • Background: Career success is the psychological achievement associated with an individual's work. Protean career management behavior is the behavior of managing individual careers in order to achieve individual career goals. The purpose of this study was to clarify the career success of dental hygienists as perceived by clinical dental hygienists and to compare the relationship between career success and protean career management behavior. Methods: Nationwide convenience samples of clinical dental hygienists were obtained; 354 people were surveyed online, and the data of 350 people were finally analyzed. The perception of career success of dental hygienists was assessed using a multiple response method. T-test, ANOVA, and χ2 tests were performed to investigate the differences and relationships between protean career management behavior and career success according to the general characteristics. Results: Career success was recognized by clinical dental hygienists as "income", "work proficiency", "patient consultation", "self-satisfaction", and "recognition by superiors" in order. There were significant differences in protean career management behavior according to general characteristics (p<0.05). Higher career management behavior was common in those higher in age, in married participants, in those with higher educational background, and in those with a higher career, better position, and more job change experience (p<0.05). Among the variables of career success perceived by clinical dental hygienists, "work proficiency" had a significant effect on "career management behavior" (p<0.05). "Work proficiency" and "recognition by superiors" were significant in "protean technological development behavior," and they also influenced actual behavior (p<0.05). Conclusion: The relationship between dental hygienists' career success and protean career management behavior was clarified. Dental hygienists performed career management behaviors to develop work ability and skills. In addition, the relationship between career management behavior and long-term employment was confirmed.

Effect of a Career Value Clarification Program on Career Consciousness Maturity and Career Decision-Making of Female College Students

  • In this paper, we would like to propose how the career value clarification program effects the maturity of career consciousness and career decision-making of female college students. The subjects were 70 attending to K Women's College and pre-and post tests of the program were conducted to them. The results were presented: The career value clarification program had a significant effect on career determination, career involvement, career independence, and career dispositionality and in particular, was significant in reasonable type as one of career decision making variables. The results mentioned above indicate that the career value clarification program had a statistically significant effect on career maturity and career decision-making. To positively enhance career maturity and career decision-making in the subjects, the career value clarification program should encourage college women students to visit diverse institutes and organizations in their community to identify licenses and activities needed for career and be prepared for actual career. Colleges should actively invite related experts and give students opportunities to understand the definition of and values pursued in their career.

The Influence of Adolescent's Career Attitude, Occupation Value, and Social Support on Career Preparation Behavior (청소년의 진로준비행동에 관한 연구 : 진로태도, 직업가치관, 사회적지지)

  • The purpose of this research was to investigate the effects of demographic, occupation value, career attitude, and social support on high school students' career preparation behavior. The data was collected from the Korean Survey on of the Career and occupation of Youth in 2009(N=3,499). Descriptive statistics, One-way ANOVA, T-test, correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis were performed on SPSS 17.0. The results of this study are as follows: first, career preparation behavior according to gender was much higher for female students than male students. There were statistically significant differences in career preparation behavior according to school years. The first year students' perception in of career preparation behavior was higher than the second, and third year students. The first year students' perception in of career preparation behavior was higher than second, and third year students. Second, career preparation behavior had a significant correlations with work value, career attitude, family support, and school support. Third, this study demonstrated that career decisiveness and family support was a strong factor in career preparation behavior. In addition, among all factors, the career decisiveness of career attitude was proved to be the most influential factor on career preparation behavior. The study discusses practical implications for career education programs.

The effects of Career Education Program on Career Self-efficacy, Career Adaptability and Career Stress for Nursing Students (진로교육 프로그램이 간호대학생의 진로자기효능감, 진로적응성 및 진로스트레스에 미치는 효과)

  • Purpose: This study was to investigate the effects of career education program on career self-efficacy, career adaptability and career stress among nursing student. Methods: A one-group, pre-post design was utilized with 95 nursing students as subjects. The career education program was consisted of four domains((1) Career exploration, (2) Self understanding, (3) Establishment of career planning (4) Practice of career planning) and included counselling, special lectures, simulated job interview, and feedback of interview. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, paired t-tests, ANCOVA(SPSS 20.0). Results: The scores on the factors of career self-efficacy(t=4.48, p<.011) and career adaptability(t=3.02, p=.003) increased significantly after the education intervention. The score of career stress(t=-2.45, p=.015) decreased significantly. Career education program is useful in improving career self-efficacy, career adaptability and career stress in nursing students. Conclusions: The results of study suggest that there needs more development and application of career education program.

  • This study aims to investigate the relationships between career stress, career adaptability, and career indecision of female university students. The participants were 184 female students in A university. They responded surveys regarding career stress, career adaptability, and career indecision. Research results were as follows. First, career stress predicted career indecision. Second, career adaptability mediated the relationship between career stress and career indecision. This result examined that career stress is an important factor which predicts career indecision. In addition, career adaptability could help to increase between career stress and career indecision by mediation effect. These findings of this research provide useful information for designing and implementing career education program.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the individual variables that influence the behavior of college students who successfully set career goals, plan for achieving goals, and specifically practice them. As a result of analyzing the relationship between career stress, career decision-making self-efficacy, career motivation, and career preparation behavior through a survey of 300 four-year college students nationwide, career stress negatively affected career self-efficacy, career decision-making self-efficacy had a positive effect on career motivation, and career motivation had a positive effect on career preparation behavior. In addition, career decision-making self-efficacy and career motivation sequentially mediated between career stress and career preparation behavior. It is significant that college students found personal variables necessary to successfully prepare for career and confirmed the relationship between the variables through the results of this study.
