The Carbon/Carbon composite was prepared from 3D carbon fiber preform and coal tar pitch as matrix precursor. In order to evaluate of ablative characteristics of the composite, liquid rocket system was employed Kerosene and liquid oxygen was used as propellants, operating at a nominal chamber pressure of 330 psi and a nominal mixture ratio (O/F) of 2.0. The results of an experimental evaluation were that high density composite exhibited high, while low density composites showed low erosion resistance. The erosion rate against heat flux was highly depended on the density of the materials. The morphology of eroded fiber showed differently according to collision angle with heat flux on the composite. The granular matrix which derived from carbonization pressure of 900 bar was more resistance to heat flux than well-developed flow type matrix.
Phenolic resin used as a precursor of carbonized matrix for carbon-carbon composites was modified by addition of molybdenum disilicide (MoSi$_2$) in various concentrations of 0, 4, 12 and 20% by weight to improve the anti-oxidation properties of the composites. The green body was manufactured by a prepreg method and was submitted to carbonization up to 110$0^{\circ}C$. In this work, the oxidation behavior of carbon-carbon composites with MoSi$_2$ as an oxidation inhibitor was investigated at the temperature range of 600-100$0^{\circ}C$ in an air environment. The carbon-carbon composites with MoSi$_2$ showed a significantly improved oxidation resistance due to both the reduction of the porosity formation and the formation of mobile diffusion barrier for oxygen when compared to those without MoSi$_2$. Carbon active sites should be blocked, decreasing the oxidation rate of carbon. This is probably due to the effect of the inherent MoSi$_2$ properties, resulted from a formation of the protective layer against oxygen attack in the composites studied.

In this paper the effects of the length of carbon fiber on the wear properties of carboni carbon composites were investigated. Carbon/carbon composites were fabricated by the liquid impregnation method using the resol-type phenolic resin as a matrix precursor and PAN-based, non-surface treated carbon fiber as a reinforcement. The measured values of the friction coefficient of carbon/carbon composites against AlSl 304 stainless steel ranged from 0.2 to 0.3 under the operating condition used in this study. The effect of the length of carbon fiber on the friction coefficient of carbon/carbon composites were not found. But, it was realized that the wear rate of carbon/carbon composites tends to increase, as the length of carbon fiber increases.

The thermal properties of carbon/phenolic and silica/phenolic ablative composites were investigated by measuring the heat capacity, thermal diffusivity and thermal conductivity. The heat capacities of carbon/ phenolic and silica/phenolic composites were calculated from differential scanning calorimeter curve. The thermal diffusivities of carbon/phenolic and silica/phenolic composites were measured by the laser flash method with varying laminated direction, i.e., with laminar direction and across laminar direction. The thermal diffusivities decreased with increasing temperature. The thermal conductivities of carbon/phenolic and silica/phenolic composites were calculated using the heat capacity, density and thermal diffusivity. The thermal conductivities increased with increasing temperature. The thermal conductivity of with laminar direction is two times higher than that of across-laminar direction in carbon/phenolic composite due to the directionality of thermal conductivity of carbon fiber. The thermal conductivities of two dimensional fiber reinforced composites were analyzed using the conductivities of constituents and volume fraction of each constituent. The thermal conductivities of carbon fiber and silica fiber were calculated from thermal conductivities of carbon/phenolic and silica/phenolic composites. The thermal conductivities of carbon/phenolic and silica/phenolic composites at RT were predicted from thermal conductivities of fiber and resin with varying the volume fraction of fiber.

Polylactic acid or polylactide (PLA) is a biodegradable thermoplastic that can be produced from renewable material to create various components for industrial purposes. In 3D printing technology, PLA is used due to its good mechanical, electrical, printing properties, environmentally friendly and non-toxic properties. However, the physical properties and excellent electrical insulation properties of PLA have limited its application. In this study, with the carbon black (CB) as filler added into PLA, the lattice spacing and morphology were investigated by using X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscope (SEM), respectively. The physical properties of PLA-carbon composite were evaluated by using tensile test, shore D hardness test and density and voids measurement. Impedance test was conducted to investigate the electrical properties of PLA-Carbon composites. The results demonstrate that the inclusion of carbon black as filler enhances the physical properties of the PLA-carbon composites, including tensile properties, hardness, and density. The addition of carbon black also leads to improved electrical conductivity of the composites. Better enhancement toward the electrical properties of PLA-carbon composites is observed with 1wt% of carbon black in N774 grade. The N550 grade with 2wt% of carbon black shows better improvement in the physical properties of PLA-carbon composites, achieving 10.686 MPa in tensile testing, 43.330 in shore D hardness test, and a density of 1.200 g/cm3 in density measurement. The findings suggest that PLA-carbon composites have the potential for enhanced performance in various industrial applications, particularly in sectors requiring improved physical and electrical properties.
This work has been investigated in order to study the influence of the moisture absorption on the mechanical pf the glass fiber/epoxy resein composites and the carbon fiber/epoxy resein composites. The types of glass fiber used in the glass fiber/epoxy resein composites were randomly oriented fiber and plain fabric fiber. And carbon fiber.epoxy resein composites was laminated with fabric prepreg which was formed with carbon fiber and epoxy resein. Both composites were immersed up to 100 days in distilled water at $80^{\circ}C$, and then dried up to 3 days in an oven at 80$80^{\circ}C$. Both composites were measured for the weight gain of water(wt.%) and tensile strength through immersion and dry time. Consequently, it was found that the tensile strength of thw glass fiber/epoxy resein composites and the carbon fiber/epoxy resein composites were reduced proportionally to the moisture absortion rate. Also, the tensile strength of glass fiber composites was decreased more than that of the carbon fiber composites. Additionally, it was found that the tensile strength of all composites which decreased by moisture absorption were partly recovered by drying in an oven at 80$80^{\circ}C$.
Transparent electrodes for a flexible display based on the liquid crystal (LC) were formed by carbon nanotubes (CNTs) on polyethylene terephthalate (PET) substrates. The thin multi wall carbon nanotubes (t-MWNTs) networks for electrodes were obtained by filtration- transfer method from welldispersed CNTs solution.

In this study, the effect of stacking sequence on the flexural and fracture properties of carbon/basalt/epoxy hybrid composites was investigated. Two types of carbon/basalt/epoxy hybrid composites with a sandwich form were fabricated: basalt skin-carbon core (BSCC) composites and carbon skin-basalt core (CSBC) composites. Fracture tests were conducted and the fracture surfaces of the carbon/basalt/epoxy hybrid composites were then examined using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The results showed that the flexural strength and flexural modulus of the CSBC specimen respectively were ~32% and ~245% greater than those of the BSCC specimen. However, the interlaminar fracture toughness of the CSBC specimen was ~10% smaller than that of the BSCC specimen. SEM results on the fracture surface showed that matrix cracking is a dominant fracture mechanism for the CSBC specimen while interfacial debonding between fibers and epoxy resin is a dominant fracture process for the BSCC specimen.
Temperature dependency of resistivity of the carbon black-polyethylene composites below and above percolation threshold is studied based on the electrical conduction mechanism. Temperature coefficient of resistance of the composites below percolation threshold changed from minus to plus, increasing volume fraction of carbon black; this trend decreased with increasing volume fraction of carbon black. The temperature dependence of resistivity of the composites below percolation threshold can be explained with a tunneling conduction model by incorporating the effect of thermal expansion of the composites into a tunneling gap. Temperature coefficient of resistance of the composites above percolation threshold was positive and its absolute value increased with increasing volume fraction of carbon black. By assuming that the electrical conduction through percolating paths is a thermally activated process and by incorporating the effect of thermal expansion into the volume fraction of carbon black, the temperature dependency of the resistivity above percolation threshold has been well explained without violating the universal law of conductivity. The apparent activation energy is estimated to be 0.14 eV.
In this study, the effect of Carbon/PEEK composites on the tribological properties has been investigated. Also, its validity has been tested in the capacity of alternative materials of the Ti-based materials used for artificial hip joint. Moreover, this work evaluated the mechanical properties according to the fiber ply orientation, along with the fractured surfaces of the carbon/PEEK composites. The composites with a unidirectional orientation had higher tribological properties than those with a multidirectional orientation. This was caused by the debonding between the carbon fiber and the PEEK, which was proportional to the contact area between the sliding surface and the carbon fiber. The friction test results showed that there were no significant differences in relation to the fiber ply orientation. However, the friction properties of the carbon/PEEK composites were higher than those of the carbon/epoxy composites. In addition, the results showed that a composite that slid in a direction normal to the prepreg lay-up direction had a smaller friction coefficient than one that slid in a direction parallel to the prepreg lay-up direction.
