In this paper, dynamic buckling of truncated conical shell made of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) composite is studied. In aerospace industries, this category of structures is utilized extensively due to wide range of engineering applications. To calculate the effective material properties of the nanocomposite, The Mori-Tanaka model is applied. Also, the motion equations are derived with the assistance of the first order shear deformation theory (FSDT), Hamilton's principle and energy method. Besides, In order to solve motion equations and analyze dynamic instability region (DIR) of the structure, mixed model of differential quadrature method (DQM) and Bolotin's method is used. Moreover, investigation of the different parameters effects such as geometrical parameters and volume fraction of CNTs on the analysis of the DIR of the structure is done. In accordance with the obtained results, the DIR will occur at higher frequencies by increasing the volume fraction of CNTs.
Carbon-encapsulated Ni and metal Ni nanoparticles were synthesized by levitational gas condensation (LGC). Methane ($CH_4$) gas was used to coat the surface of the Ni nanoparticles. The Ni particles had a core diameter of 10 nm, and were covered by 2~3 nm thin carbon layers with multi-shells structure. The low magnetization comparing with the Ni nanoparticles without carbon-shell results in the coexistence of nonmagnetic carbon and a large surface spin percentage with disordered magnetization orientation for the nanoparticles. Biginelli reactions in the presence of L-proline and Ni and carbon encapsulated Ni nanoparticles were carried out to change the ratio between stereoisomers. The obtained S-enantiomers for 3,4-dihydropyrimidine (DHPM) using catalysts of Ni, and Ni@C was an excess of about ${\Delta}{\sim}7.4%$ and ${\Delta}{\sim}19.6%$, respectively. The nanopowders were fully recovered using magnet to reuse as a catalyst. The Ni@C was shown at same yield to formation of 3,4-DHPM, though it was recycled for catalyst in the reaction.

Carbon black has been widely used in composites, tonor resin, and ink materials. Since carbon black readily agglomerates, it is important to disperse carbon black in real applications. Aiming to improve dispersion stability, carbon black was chemically oxidized to possess hydroxyl groups using a phase transfer catalyst at room temperature. The modified carbon black (CB-OH) was grafted by a silane coupling agent, p-methylacryloxypropyltrimethoxysilane, to carry teminal vinyl groups. The modified carbon black was subsequently used in miniemulsion polymerization to achieve encapsulted core-shell structure. Finally, well-encapsulated carbon black by polymer was obtained in the size range of 100-500 nm. Throughout the polymerization, the effects of surface modification, types of monomers, initiators, and emulsifiers were investigated.
A series of molecular dynamic (MD), finite element (FE) and ab initio simulations are carried out to establish suitable modeling schemes for the continuum-based analysis of aluminum matrix nanocomposites reinforced with carbon nanotubes (CNTs). From a comparison of the MD with FE models and inferences based on bond structures and electron distributions, we propose that the effective thickness of a CNT wall for its continuum representation should be related to the graphitic inter-planar spacing of 3.4${\AA}$. We also show that shell element representation of a CNT structure in the FE models properly simulated the carbon-carbon covalent bonding and long-range interactions in terms of the load-displacement behaviors. Estimation of the effective interfacial elastic properties by ab initio simulations showed that the in-plane interfacial bond strength is negligibly weaker than the normal counterpart due to the nature of the weak secondary bonding at the CNT-Al interface. Therefore, we suggest that a third-phase solid element representation of the CNT-Al interface in nanocomposites is not physically meaningful and that spring or bar element representation of the weak interfacial bonding would be more appropriate as in the cases of polymer matrix counterparts. The possibility of treating the interface as a simply contacted phase boundary is also discussed.
The silicate carbon star IRAS 09425-6040 shows very conspicuous crystalline silicate dust features and excessive emission at far infrared. To investigate properties of dusty envelopes around the object, we use radiative transfer models for axisymmetric and sphericallly symmetric dust distributions. We perform model calculations for various possible combinations of dust shells and disks with various dust species. We compare the model results with the observed spectral energy distributions (SEDs) including the IRAS, ISO, AKARI, MSX and 2MASS data. We find that a model with multiple disks of amorphous and crystalline silicate and multiple spherical shells of carbon dust can reproduce the observed SED fairly well. This supports the scenario for the origin of silicate carbon stars that oxygen-rich material was shed by mass loss when the primary star was an M giant and the O-rich material is stored in a circumbinary disk. Highly (about 75 %) crystallized forsterite dust in the disk can reproduce the conspicuous crystalline features of the ISO observational data. This object looks to have a detached silicate and H2O ice shell with a much higher mass-loss rate. It could be a remnant of the chemical transition phase. The last phase of stellar winds of O-rich materials looks to be a superwind.

Vinyl chloride monomer exists as gas phase at normal temperature and reacts with oxygen and strong oxidant in the air to form oxidized materials. Because of being easily synthesized, it is used as a main source at the synthetic reaction process of PVC synthesis factories. Ministry of Labor regulates its usage as a carcinogen and its exposure level as 1 ppm. But the amount of VCM production in PVC and VCM production process hasn't been exactly estimated. In addition, facilities of this factory are located in outdoor. Therefore, this study was designed to investigate effects of temperature on breakthrough of charcoal tube at a fixed concentration and temperature during VCM sampling based on NIOSH and OSHA methods which were used as methods of occupational environment measuring and analysis. During the sampling of VCM, methods of OSHA and NIOSH require flow rate of 0.05 lpm and sampling volume of $3{\ell}$, $5{\ell}$ respectively, at this time carbon molecular sieve tube and coconut shell charcoal tube are used to observe the breakthrough along with concentration and temperature. As a result, significant difference between average adsorbed amounts of OSHA methods but that of NIOSH methods cannot be found. NIOSH method is likely to be effected by high temperature and normal temperature in high concentration. Breakthrough is not found in the method of OSHA at different conditions of temperature and concentration. As the result of this study we could verify that breakthrough occurred in the process of sampling VCM with NIOSH methods. Therefor in summer time, breakthrough should be considered and research on the breakthrough volume should be done. It is considered the research about the specificity of the coconut shell charcoal and carbon molecular sieve sorbent should be done when sampling VCM in comming days.
In this study, we investigated the adsorption characteristics of methyl orange (MO), an anionic dye, on ginkgo shell-based activated carbon (AC). For this purpose, ACs (GS-1, GS-2, and GS-4) with different textural properties were prepared using ginkgo shells and potassium hydroxide (KOH), a representative chemical activating agent. The correlation between the textural characteristics of AC prepared and the mixing ratio of KOH was investigated using nitrogen adsorption/desorption isotherms. The MO adsorption equilibrium experiment on the prepared ACs was conducted under different pH (pH 3~11) and temperature (298~318 K) conditions, and the results were investigated by Langmuir, Freundlich, Sips and temperature-dependent Sips equations. The feasibility of the MO adsorption treatment process of the prepared AC was also investigated using the dimensionless Langmuir separation factor. The heterogeneous adsorption properties of MO for the prepared AC examined using the adsorption energy distribution function (AED) were closely related to the system temperature and textural characteristics of AC. The kinetic results of the batch adsorption performed at different temperatures can be satisfactorily explained by the homogeneous surface diffusion model (HSDM), which takes into account the external mass transfer, intraparticle diffusion, and active site adsorption. The relationship between the activation energy value obtained by the Arrhenius plot and the adsorption energy distribution function value was also investigated. In addition, the adsorption process mechanism of MO on the prepared AC was evaluated using Biot number.

Among the various activated carbons available in the market, an optimum mixing method of two kind activated carbons with different adsorbability was investigated in this study. The representative adsorption behaviors of the activated carbon are the adsorption isotherm plots obtained by the BET-Analysis which suggests also basic information of adsorption filter design. So we have tested three cases with certifications, the one was the extreme case of coal cokes based activated carbon with highest BET-model and coconut-shell based activated carbon with the lowest Langmuir-model, the other middle and cross case were applied this method to two kinds of activated carbons with higher and lower specific surface areas which are not available but supplied as research samples by an authority of an Korean Research Institute.
A chitinase (CHT) and a protease (PRO) were purified from the culture supernatant of Serratia sp. TKU017, with shrimp shell as the sole carbon/nitrogen source. The molecular masses of CHT and PRO determined by SDS-PAGE were approximately 65 kDa and 53 kDa, respectively. CHT was inhibited by $Mn^{2+}$ and $Cu^{2+}$, and PRO was inhibited by most tested divalent metals and EDTA. The optimum pH, optimum temperature, pH stability, and thermal stability of CHT and PRO were pH 5, $50^{\circ}C$, pH 5-7, and <$50^{\circ}C$, and pH 9, $40^{\circ}C$, pH 5-11, and <$40^{\circ}C$, respectively. PRO retained 95% of its protease activity in the presence of 0.5 mM SDS. The result demonstrates that PRO is an SDS-resistant protease and probably has a rigid structure. The $4^{th}$-day supernatant showed the strongest antioxidant activity (70%, DPPH scavenging ability) and the highest total phenolic content ($196{\pm}6.2\;{\mu}g$ of gallic acid equiv./ml). Significant associations between the antioxidant potency and the total phenolic content, as well as between the antioxidant potency and free amino groups, were found for the supernatant. With this method, we have shown that shrimp shell wastes can be utilized and it is effective in the production of enzymes and antioxidants, facilitating its potential use in industrial applications and functional foods.
A laboratory experiment was conducted to investigate nitrogen removal from plating wastewater by a soil reactor. A combination of soil, waste oyster shell and activated sludge were used as a loading media in a soil reactor. The addition of 20% waste oyster shell and activated sludge to the soil accelerated nitrification (88.6% ${NH_4}^{+}-N$ removal efficiency) and denitrification (84.3% ${NO_3}^{-}-N$ removal) in the soil reactor, respectively. In continuous removal, the influent ${NH_4}^{+}-N$ was mostly converted to nitrate nitrogen in the nitrification soil reactor and only a small amount of ${NH_4}^{+}-N$ was found in the effluent. When methanol was added as a carbon source to the denitrification soil reactor, the average removal efficiency of ${NO_3}^{-}-N$ significantly increased. The ${NO_3}^{-}-N$ removal by methanol addition in the denitrification soil reactor was mainly due to denitrification. The phosphorus was removed by the waste oyster shell media in the nitrification soil reactor. Moreover, the phosphorus removal in the denitrification soil reactor was achieved by synthesis of bacteria and the denitrification under anaerobic conditions. The approximate number of nitrifiers and denitrifiers was $3.3{\times}10^5\;MPN/g$ soil at a depth of $1{\sim}10\;cm$ and $3.3{\times}10^6\;MPN/g$ soil at a depth of $10{\sim}20\;cm$, respectively, in the soil reactor mixed with a waste oyster shell media and activated sludge.
