T800/924C 탄소-에폭시 복합재판의 압축강도에 대한 두께 효과 (Thickness Effect on the Compressive Strength of T800/924C Carbon Fibre-Epoxy Laminates)

  • 본 연구에서 복합재의 압축 강도에 대한 두께 효과가 $[0_4]_{ns},{\;}[45/0/-45/90]_{ns},{\;}[45_n/0_n/-45_n/90_n]_s$ (n=2 to 8) 등의 적층 방법을 이용하여 체계적인 실험을 통해 조사되었다. 여기서 섬유 체적비, 기공률, 섬유 굴곡도, 층간 응력 등, 적층 두께 증가에 따른 압축 강도에 영향을 주는 파라미터들이 실험과 이론적으로 연구되었다. 또한 엇교차 대칭 복합재판의 파괴강도에 대한 적층 순서 효과도 조사되었다. 이를 위해 2종류의 다른 스케일링 효과를 갖는 (1) 폰라이-레벨 기법인 $[45_n/0_n/-45_n/90_n]_s$과 (2) 서브라미네이트-레벨 기법인 $[45_n/0_n/-45_n/90_n]_s$가 적용되었다. 일 방향 적층 시편 $[0_4]_{ns}$과 플라이-레벨인 $[45_n/0_n/-45_n/90_n]_s$에는 분명한 두께효과를 나타내었다. 그리고 섬유 굴곡도와 기공률의 두께효과에 기여하는 주요 파라미터 들임이 확인되었다. 그러나 서브라미네이트-레벨인 $[45/0/-45/90]_{ns}$의 압축강도는 시편 두께의 변화에도 불구하고 별 영향을 나타내지 않았으면, 서브라미네이트- 레벨 시편에서 구한 강토가 플라이-레벨 시편에서 구한 강도보다 약간 높았다. 이 같은 효과에 대한 이유는 섬유 굴곡도, 기공률, 자유단 효과 및 $0^{\circ}$층과 비 $0^{\circ}$층 사이의 응력 재 분포에 의한 영향인 것으로 보인다. 측정된 파괴강도는 예측 값과 비교되었다.

Braided composite rods: Innovative fibrous materials for geotechnical applications

  • In this paper, a novel fibrous material known as axially reinforced braided composite rods (BCRs) have been developed for reinforcement of soils. These innovative materials consist of an axial reinforcement system, comprised of longitudinally oriented core fibres, which is responsible for mechanical performance and, a braided cover, which gives a ribbed surface texture for better interfacial interactions with soils. BCRs were produced using both thermosetting (unsaturated polyester) and thermoplastic (polypropylene) matrices and synthetic (carbon, glass, HT polyethylene), as well as natural (sisal) core fibres. BCRs were characterized for tensile properties and the influence of core fibres was studied. Moreover, BCRs containing carbon fibre in the core composition were characterized for piezoresistivity and strain sensing properties under flexural deformation. According to the experimental results, the developed braided composites showed tailorable and wide range of mechanical properties, depending on the core fibres and exhibited very good strain sensing behavior.

A numerical study on vibration behavior of fiber-reinforced composite panels in thermal environments

  • This paper is devoted to the presentation of a numerical study on vibration behavior of composite panels reinforced by glass fibres and carbon nanotubes (CNTs) subjected to thermal environments. The effect of temperature variation has been included as thermal load acting on in-plane direction of the panel. To model the composite material, a micromechanical model which contains random dispersion of nanotubes and single-direction fibers has been selected. The geometry of the panel has been considered to have a single curveture along its width. Based on the above assumptions, the governing equations have been derived by using thin shell theory capturing the panel curveture and also nonlinear deflections. Finally, the panel dependence on various factors such as the curveture, nanotube amount, fiber volume, fiber direction and temperature variation has been researched.

  • Composites have wide applications in aerospace vehicles and automobiles because of the inherent flexibility in their design for improved material properties. Composite tribes in particular, are potential candidates for their use as energy absorbing elements in crashworthiness applications due to their high specific energy absorbing capacity and the stroke efficiency. Their failure mechanism however is highly complicated and rather difficult to analyze. This includes fracture in fibres, in the matrix and in the fibre-matrix interface in tension, compression and shear. The purpose of this study is to investigate the energy absorption characteristics of CFRP(Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastics) tubes on static and impact tests. Static compression tests have been carried out using the static testing machine and impact tests have been carried out using the vertical crushing testing machine. Interlaminar number affect the energy absorption capability of CFRP tubes. Also, theoretical and experimental have the same value.

롤빔에 카본플레이트를 보강한 강재의 일체적거동 및 강성보강효과 (Test on the strengthening effects and behavior of Roll beam with Stiffened carbon-plate)

  • 본 연구에서는 기존구조물에 대한 보수와 복구에 보강을 위하여 복합재료의 사용이 증가하고 있는 상황에서 방재의 개념에도 부합하는 탄소섬유보강재를 이용하여 기존금속재와 접합(접착방식)을 통한 강도증진효과를 연구하였다. 특히 실험을 통하여 강-탄소섬유보강재로 이루어진 복합재 거동을 파악하였으며 여기에 적절한 시험을 위한 새로운 형태의 시험편을 제작하였다. 접합재로 레진을 도포하는 방법을 달리하고 거동을 비교하기 위하여 표면처리가 다른 시험편을 각각 고려하여 시험한 결과 강성보강효과는 물론 일체거동의 특성이 잘 나타남을 알 수 있었다.

Free vibrations of precast modular steel-concrete composite railway track slabs

  • This paper highlights a study undertaken on the free vibration of a precast steel-concrete composite slab panel for track support. The steel-concrete composite slab track is an evolvement from the slab track, a form of ballastless track which is becoming increasingly attractive to asset owners as they seek to reduce lifecycle costs and deal with increasing rail traffic speeds. The slender nature of the slab panel due to its reduced depth of construction makes it susceptible to vibration problems. The aim of the study is driven by the need to address the limited research available to date on the dynamic behaviour of steel-concrete composite slab panels for track support. Free vibration analysis of the track slab has been carried out using ABAQUS. Both eigenfrequencies and eigenmodes have been extracted using the Lanczos method. The fundamental natural frequencies of the slab panel have been identified together with corresponding mode shapes. To investigate the sensitivity of the natural frequencies and mode shapes, parametric studies have been established, considering concrete strength and mass and steel's modulus of elasticity. This study is the world first to observe crossover phenomena that result in the inversion of the natural orders without interaction. It also reveals that replacement of the steel with aluminium or carbon fibre sheeting can only marginally reduce the natural frequencies of the slab panel.

세라믹 섬유 복합체의 제조 및 물성 향상 (Fabrication of ceramic fibre composite and improvement of its property)

  • 본 연구에서는 탄소/탄소 복합체의 내산화성을 증진시키기 위하여 CVD법에 의한 SiC 코팅과 PCS 함침법을 응용하여 실험을 행하였다. 전자현미경으로 시편의 미세구조를 관찰 한 결과 CVD법에 의해서는 표면에 SiC가 고르게 증착되었으며, 함침법에 의해서는 각 탄소 섬유의 표면에 PCS가 wetting된 후 SiC로의 전이가 잘 일어났음을 확인하였고, 이로 인하여 각 섬유들의 결합력을 증대시키고 기계적물성에 증진을 가져왔음을 확인하였다. PCS 함침된 탄소/탄소 복합체 시편은 함침되지 않은 시편에 비해 밀도는 25 %, 곡강도 값은 3.5배, 내산화성은 2.8배가 증가하는 현격한 기계적 물성이 증가함을 보였다. 이러한 증가는 CVD법에 의해 코팅된 탄소/탄소 복합체 사편보다도 우수한 기계적 성질을 나타내였다.

Stability and failure of symmetrically laminated plates

  • This paper describes a numerical and experimental study on the stability and failure behaviour of rectangular symmetric laminated composite plates. The plates are simply supported along the unloaded edges and clamped along the loaded ends, and they are subjected to uniaxial in-plane compression. The finite element method was employed for the theoretical study. The study examines the effect of the plate's stacking sequence and aspect ratio on the stability and failure response of rectangular symmetric laminated carbon fibre reinforced plastics composite plates. The study also includes the effect of the unloaded edge support conditions on the postbuckling response and failure of the plates. Extensive experimental investigation were also carried out to supplement the finite element study. A comprehensive comparison between theory and experimental data are presented and discussed in this contribution.

Design validation of a composite crash absorber energy to an emergency landing

  • In this study, the failure mode and energy absorption capabilities of a composite shock absorber device, during an emergency landing are evaluated. The prototype has been installed and tested in laboratory simulating an emergency landing test condition. The crash absorber presents an innovative configuration able to reduce the loads transmitted to a helicopter fuselage during an emergency landing. It consists of a composite tailored tube installed on the landing gear strut. During an emergency landing this crash absorber system should be able to absorb energy through a pre-designed deformation. This solution, compared to an oleo-pneumatic shock absorber, avoids sealing checks, very high values of the shock absorber pressure, and results to be lighter, easy in maintenance, inspect and use. The activities reported in this paper have become an attractive research field both from the scientific viewpoint and the prospect of industrial applications, because they offer benefits in terms of energy absorbing, weight savings, increasing the safety levels, and finally reducing the costs in a global sense.
