Purpose Iodine (I-131) is one of the most widely used radioactive isotopes for therapeutic in the field of nuclear medicine. Therapeutic I-131 capsule is made out of lead to shield high energy radiation. Accurate dosimetry is necessarily required to perform safe and effective work for relative workers. The Monte Carlo method is known as a method to predict the absorbed dose distribution most accurately in radiation therapy and many researchers constantly attempt to apply this method to the dose calculation of radiotherapy recently. This paper aims to calculate distance dependent and activity dependent therapeutic I-131 capsule using GEANT4. Materials and Methods Therapeutic capsules was implemented on the basis of the design drawings. The simulated dose was determined by generating of gamma rays of energy to more than 364 keV. The simulated dose from the capsule at the distance of 10 cm and 100 cm was measured and calculated in the model of water phantom. The simulated dose were separately calculated for each position of each detector. Results According to the domestic regulation on radiation safety, the dose at 10 cm and 100 cm away from the surface of therapeutic I-131 capsule should not exceed 2.0 mSv/h and 0.02 mSv/h, respectively. The simulated doses turned out to be less than the limit, satisfying the domestic regulation. Conclusion These simulation results may serve as useful data in the prediction of hands dose absorbed by I-131 capsule handling. GEANT4 is considered that it will be effectively used in order to check the radiation dose.

Synovial sarcoma is a malignant soft tissue tumor which is the most prevalent in adolescents and young adults between 10 and 40 years of age. It occurs primarily in the para-articular regions, usually in close association with tendon sheath, bursae and joint capsules. Favorable clinical factors are young age of the patients, tumor size smaller than 5cm, and distal rather than proximal location in the extremities. We analysed clinical findings of 13 cases of synovial sarcoma that had been experienced from January 1983 to December 1992. There were 8 females and 5 males, whose age was averaged as 28 years and 10 months ranging from 6 years to 54 years. The mean follow-up was 3 years(range : 9 months- 9 years 1 month). Palpable mass was frequent clinical symptom and lower extremity especially around the knee was the most prevalent site. Treatment modalities were the combination of surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy. Distant metastasis occured in 5(38%) cases : 4 cases to lung and 1 case to neck, and 2 cases had local recurrences. At final follow-up 6 cases were continous disease free, 2 alive with disease and 5 died of disease. The Kaplan-Meier's estimated 5 year survival rate of total 13 cases was 66% and satisfactory results were obtained with mass size smaller than 5cm.

This study was conducted to investigate the effects of night illumination on the growth and yield of sesame(Sesamum indicum) and perilla(Perilla frutescens). Stem length and height of the first pod in sesame increased, whereas number of branch was reduced and flowering date and maturing date delayed as light intensity of night illumination increased. Number of capsules per plant, ripening ratio and seed yield of sesame were reduced as light intensity of night illumination increased. Yield reduction was greater in Ahnsankkae than in Sodunkkae. Number of nodes increased under night illumination in perilla. Two test cultivars showed reduction in number of branch at 6~10 Lx(22 ㎽ m$^{-2}$ ) intensity of night illumination, even though there was a variation between cultivars. Perilla was sensitive to night illumination far flowering and ripening. Flowering date was delayed by 21 to 28 days at 6~10 Lx intensity of night illumination. Number of flower clusters, number of seeds per flower cluster, and 1,000-seed weight in perilla were significantly reduced and seed yield was reduced by 89 to 98% at 6-10 Lx intensity of night illumination.

In this study, numerical simulations were conducted for conjugate heat transfer around ice balls in an encapsulated ice thermal storage system. Four shapes of ice balls were modeled; the default one was a sphere, and the other three shapes were designed to enhance convective heat transfer through the ball surface. The flow around the ball was laminar, for which the Reynolds number was 300, and both forced and natural convections inside and outside the balls were considered. The simulations revealed that the magnitude of convective heat transfer for the different shapes decreased in the following order: bone, dimple, hole, and sphere. For the entire simulation, the maximum difference in the average temperatures of water inside the capsules was found to be $0.9^{\circ}C$. Therefore, it can be said that the effect of ice-ball shape on the performance of the ice thermal storage system is significant, considering that more than 0.3 million balls are used in this system.
The purpose of the present study was to evaluate the bioequivalence of two cefaclor capsules, Ceclor (Lilly Korea Co., Ltd.) and Kyongbocefaclor (Kyongbo Pharm. Co., Ltd.), according to the guidelines of the Korea Food and Drug Administration (KFDA). The release of cefaclor from the two cefaclor formulations in vitro was tested using KP VIII Apparatus II method with various dissolution media (pH 1.2, 4.0, 6.8 buffer solution and water). Twenty four healthy male subjects, $22.96{\pm}1.52$ years in age and $67.03{\pm}7.90$ kg in body weight, were divided into two groups and a randomized $2{\times}2$ crossover study was employed. After one capsule containing 250 mg of cefaclor was orally administered, blood was taken at predetermined time intervals and the concentrations of cefaclor in serum were determined using HPLC method with UV detector. The dissolution profiles of two formulations were similar at all dissolution media. In addition, the pharmacokinetic parameters such as $AUC_t$, $C_{max}$ and $T_{max}$ were calculated and ANOVA test was utilized for the statistical analysis of the parameters using logarithmically transformed $AUC_t$, $C_{max}$ and untransformed $T_{max}$. The results showed that the differences between two formulations based on the reference drug, Ceclor, were -1.90%, 2.68% and -7.60% for $AUC_t$, $C_{max}$ and $T_{max}$, respectively. There were no sequence effects between two formulations in these parameters. The 90% confidence intervals using logarithmically transformed data were within the acceptance range of log 0.8 to log 1.25 $(e.g.,\;log0.91{\sim}log\;1.06\;and\;log0.92{\sim}log\;1.18\;for\;AUC_t\;and\;C_{max}$, respectively). Thus, the criteria of the KFDA bioequivalence guideline were satisfied, indicating Kyongbocefaclor capsule was bioequivalent to Ceclor capsule.
Gabapentin is an antiepileptic drug that is structurally similar to ${\gamma}-aminobutyric$ acid (GABA), but does not interact with the GABA receptor. It does not bind significantly to plasma proteins, and is excreted to unchanged form in the urine. The purpose of the present study was to evaluate the bioequivalence of two gabapentin capsules, $Neurontin^{TM}$ capsule 300 mg (Pfizer Pharm. Co., Ltd.) and Kuhnil $Gabapentin^{TM}$ capsule 300 mg (Kuhnil Pharm. Co., Ltd), according to the guidelines of the Korea Food and Drug Administration (KFDA). The release of gabapentin from the two gabapentin formulations in vitro was tested using KP VIII Apparatus II method with various dissolution media (pH 1.2, 4.0, 6.8 buffer solution and water). Twenty six healthy male subjects, $22.46{\pm}1.86$ years in age and $67.64{\pm}7.24$ kg in body weight, were divided into two groups and a randomized $2{\times}2$ cross-over study was employed. After a single capsule containing 300 mg as gabapentin was orally administered, blood samples were taken at predetermined time intervals and the concentrations of gabapentin in serum were determined using HPLC with fluorescence detector. The dissolution profiles of two formulations were similar at all dissolution media. In addition, the pharmacokinetic parameters such as $AUC_t$, $C_{max}$ and $T_{max}$ were calculated and ANOVA test was utilized for the statistical analysis of the parameters using logarithmically transformed $AUC_t$, $C_{max}$ and untransformed $T_{max}$. The results showed that the differences between two formulations based on the reference drug, $Neurontin^{TM}$ capsule 300 mg, were -2.03, -0.43 and 4.29% for $AUC_t$, $C_{max}$ and $T_{max}$, respectively. There were no sequence effects between two formulations in these parameters. The 90% confidence intervals using logarithmically transformed data were within the acceptance range of log 0.8 to log 1.25 $(e.g.,\;log\;0.89{\sim}log\;1.09\;and\;log\;0.91{\sim}log\;1.09$ for $AUC_t$ and $C_{max}$, respectively). Thus, the criteria of the KFDA bioequivalence guideline were satisfied, indicating Kuhnil $Gabapentin^{TM}$ capsule 300 mg was bioequivalent to $Neurontin^{TM}$ capsule 300 mg.
BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: The present study investigated the hypothesis that a highly pure linear ${\beta}$-1,3-glucan produced by Agrobacterium sp. R259 enhances human natural killer (NK) cell activity and suppresses pro-inflammatory cytokines. SUBJECTS/METHODS: In an eight-week, double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled clinical trial, 83 healthy adults with white blood cell counts of $4,000-8,000cells/{\mu}L$ were participated and randomly assigned to take two capsules per day containing either 350 mg ${\beta}$-1,3-glucan or placebo. Six participants withdrew their study consent or were excluded due to NK cell activity levels outside the normal range. NK cell activity and serum levels of immunoglobulin G (IgG) and cytokines, such as interferon (IFN)-${\gamma}$, interleukin (IL)-2, IL-4, IL-6, IL-10, IL-12 and tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-${\alpha}$ were measured. RESULTS: NK cell activity and the serum levels of IL-10 were significantly higher from baseline to week 8 in the ${\beta}$-glucan group compared with the placebo group (P = 0.048, P = 0.029). Consumption of ${\beta}$-1,3-glucan also significantly increased NK cell activity compared with placebo after adjusting for smoking and stress status (P = 0.009). In particular, the effect of ${\beta}$-1,3-glucan on NK cell activity was greater in participants with severe stress than in those experiencing mild stress. However, the administration ${\beta}$-1,3-glucan did not significantly modulate the levels of IFN-${\gamma}$, IL-2, IL-4, IL-6, IL-12, TNF-${\alpha}$ and IgG compared with the placebo. CONCLUSION: The results showed that supplementation with bacterial ${\beta}$-1,3-glucan significantly increased NK cell activity without causing any adverse effects. Additionally, the beneficial effect of ${\beta}$-1,3-glucan on NK cell activity was greater in participants experiencing severe stress.
A self-microemulsifying drug delivery system (SMEDDS) was developed to increase the dissolution rate, solubility, and ultimately bioavailability of a poorly water soluble drug, lovastatin. SMEDDS was thε mixtures of oils, surfactants, and cosurfactants, which emulsify under conditions of gentle agitation, similar to those which would be encountered in the gastro-intestinal (GI) tract. Various types of self-emulsifying formulations were prepared using four types of oil (Capryol 90, Lauroglycol 90, Labrafil M 1944 CS and Labrafil M 2125), two surfactants (Cremophor EL and Tween 80), and three cosurfactants (Carbitol, PEG 400 and propylene glycol). Thε efficiency of emulsification was studied using a laser diffraction size analyzer to determine particle size distributions of the resultant emulsions. Optimized formulations selected for bioavailability assessment were Carpryol 90 (40%), Cremophor EL (30%) and Carbitol (30%). SMEDDS containing lovastatin (20 mg and 5 mg) were compared to a conventional lovastatin tablet $(Mevacor^{\circledR},\;20\;mg/tab)$ by the oral administration as prefilled hard gelatin capsules to fasted beagle dogs for in vivo study. The arεa under the serum concentration-time curve from time zero to the last measured time in serum, $AUC_{0{\rightarrow}24h}$, was significantly greater in SMEDDS, suggesting that bioavailability increase 130% and 192% by the SMEDDS, respectively. The self-emulsifying formulations of lovastatin afforded the improvement in absolute oral bioavailability relative to previous data of lovastatin tablet formulation. These data indicate the utility of dispersed self-emulsifying formulations for the oral delivery of lovastatin and potentially other poorly absorbed drugs.
Bioequivalence of two cefixime capsules, test drug ($Cepirin^R$ capsule: Cheiljedang Corp.) and reference drug ($Suprax^R$ capsule: Dong A Pharm. Com.), was evaluated according to the guidelines of Korea Food and Drug Administration (KFDA). Sixteen healthy volunteers were divided randomly into two groups and administered the drug orally at the dose of 400 mg as cefixime in a $2{\times}2$ crossover study. There was a 1-week washout period between the administrations. Blood samples were taken at predetermined time intervals for 12 hour and the plasma concentration of cefixime was determined with a HPLC method. $AUC_{0-12hr}$ (area under the plasma concentration-time curve form time zero to 12 hour), $C_{max}$ (maximum plasma drug concentration) and $T_{max}$ (time to reach $C_{max}$) were estimated from the plasma drug concentrationtime data. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) revealed no difference in $AUC_{0-12hr}$, $C_{max}$ and $T_{max}$ between the formulations. The apparent differences of these parameters between the formulations were less than 20% (i.e., 8.62, 11.10 and 0.00% for $AUC_{0-12hr}$, $C_{max}$ and $T_{max}$,respectively). The powers $(1-{\beta})$ for $AUC_{0-12hr}$$C_{max}$ and $T_{max}$ were over 0.9. Minimal detectable difference $({\Delta})$ at ${\alpha}=0.05$, $1-{\beta}=0.8$ were less than 20% (i.e., 12.84, 11.05 and 17.99% for $AUC_{0-12hr}$, $C_{max}$ and $T_{max}$, respectively). The 90% confidence intervals $({\delta})$ for these parameters were also within ${\pm}20%$ (i.e., $-0.53{\le}{\delta}{\le}17.76$, $3.23{\le}{\delta}{\le}18.97$ and $-12.81{\le}{\delta}{\le}12.81$ for $AUC_{0-12hr}$, $C_{max}$ and $T_{max}$, respectively). These results satisfied the criteria of KFDA guideline for bioequivalence, indicating the two formulations of cefixime were bioequivlent.

This study using yogurt of food in order to increase the conservativeness and stability of lactobacillus, to be deliciously flavored and give it visual differential effect, were described regarding making the preparing method of double matrix capsulation in food industries. Our study group was especially made to soft and moisture cream using 5wt% of sucrose ester emulsifier as first capsulation. Double matrix capsulation was formed with the best stabilized bead type capsules when it blended 1:3 ratio of chitosan and alginate. The bead diameter size was about 2.5~4mm (mean diameter: 3mm). Activity of lactobacillus containing cream for depending on various pH variations showed that alkalinity ($pH=10.3{\pm}0.3$) condition was higher than acidity ($pH=4.3{\pm}0.3$) and neutrality ($pH=7.12{\pm}0.2$) conditions. After a month, it also was certified to the activity of lactobacillus in incubated at $37^{\circ}C$ in culture medium. As application of food industry, we developed the containing lactobacillus capsule and 5 colored kinds of double matrix capsulation in yogurt cream. As for above mentioned those results, one of tool to stabilize the living lactobacillus, doubled matrix capsulation greatly be expected to contribute to food industry. Furthermore, it can be expected to apply the drug delivery system (DDS) to active ingredients of stabilizing technologies at drug and cosmetic industries.
