The frequencies formulas of the bridge are of great importance in the design process since these formulas provide insight dynamic characteristics of the structure, which guides the designers to parametric analyses and the layout of the bridge in conceptual or preliminary design. Continuous rigid frame bridge is popular in the mountainous area. Mostly, this type of bridge was simplified either as a girder or cantilever when calculating the frequency, however, studies showed that the different configuration of the bridge made the problem more complex, and there is no unified fundamental calculation pattern for this kind of bridge. In this study, an empirical frequency equation is proposed as a function of pier's height, stiffness of pier and the weight of the structure. A unified fundamental frequency formula is presented based on the energy principle, then the typical continuous rigid frame bridge is investigated by finite element method (FEM) to study the dynamic characteristics of the structure, and then several key parameters are investigated on the effect of structural frequency. These parameters include the number, position and stiffness of the tie beam. Nonlinear regression analyses are conducted with a comprehensive statistical study from plenty of engineering structures. Finally, the proposed frequency equation is validated by field test results. The results show that the fundamental frequency of the continuous rigid frame bridge increases more than 15% when the tie beams are set, and it increases with the stiffness ratio of tie beam to pier. The results also show that the presented unified fundamental frequency has an error of 4.6% compared with the measured results. The investigation can predicate the approximate longitudinal fundamental frequency of continuous ridged frame bridge, which can provide reference for the seismic response and dynamic impact factor design of the pier.

In this study, in order to apply ultra-high-strength concrete beams of 100 MPa or more manufactured by centrifugal molding as the superstructure of the avalanche tunnel, the purpose is to verify the structural safety of the corner rigid joint in which the centrifugal molded beam is integrated with the substructure, which is the negative moment area. A full-size specimen was manufactured, and loading tests and analysis studies were performed. In order to expect the same effect that the maximum moment occurs in the corner joint part of the upper slab end when the standard model of the avalanche tunnel is designed with a load combination according to the specification, a modified cantilever type structural model specimen was manufactured and the corner rigid joint was fixedly connected. A study was performed to determine the performance of the method and the optimal connection construction method. The test results demonstrated that the proposed connection system outperforms others. Despite having differences in joint connection construction type, stable flexural behavior was shown in all the tested specimens. The proposed method also outperformed the behavior of centrifugally formed beams and upper slabs. The behavior of the corner rigid joint analysis model according to the F.E. analysis showed slightly greater stiffness compared to the results of the experiment, but the overall behavior was almost similar. Therefore, there is no structural problem in the construction of the corner rigid joint between the centrifugally formed beam and the wall developed in this study.
The impact of spar-nacelle-blade coupling on edgewise dynamic responses of spar-type floating wind turbines (S-FOWT) is investigated in this paper. Currently, this coupling is not considered explicitly by researchers. First of all, a coupled model of edgewise vibration of the S-FOWT considering the aerodynamic properties of the blade, variable mass and stiffness per unit length, gravity, the interactions among the blades, nacelle, spar and mooring system, the hydrodynamic effects, the restoring moment and the buoyancy force is proposed. The aerodynamic loads are combined of a steady wind (including the wind shear) and turbulence. Each blade is modeled as a cantilever beam vibrating in its fundamental mode. The mooring cables are modeled using an extended quasi-static method. The hydrodynamic effects calculated by using Morison's equation and strip theory consist of added mass, fluid inertia and viscous drag forces. The random sea state is simulated by superimposing a number of linear regular waves. The model shows that the vibration of the blades, nacelle, tower, and spar are coupled in all degrees of freedom and in all inertial, dissipative and elastic components. An uncoupled model of the S-FOWT is then formulated in which the blades and the nacelle are not coupled with the spar vibration. A 5MW S-FOWT is analyzed by using the two proposed models. In the no-wave sea, the coupling is found to contribute to spar responses only. When the wave loading is considered, the coupling is significant for the responses of both the nacelle and the spar.

The honeycomb composite joint structure designed for application to a tilting KTX railroad car body is subjected to bending loads of a cantilever type. Honeycomb sandwich composite panel-joint attached in the real tilting car body was fabricated and sectioned as several beam-joint specimens for the bending test. The fracture behaviors of these specimens under static loads were different from those under cyclic loads. Static bending loads caused shear deformation and fracture in the honeycomb core region, while fatigue cyclic bend loading caused delamination along the interface between the composite skin and the honeycomb core, and/or caused a fracture in the welded part jointed with the steel under-frame. These fracture behaviors could occur in other industrial honeycomb composite joints with similar sub-structures, and be used for improving design parameters of a honeycomb composite joint structure.

It is important to measure the mechanical properties of nanostructures because they are required to determine the lifetime and reliability of nanodevices developed for various fields. In this study, tensile tests for a multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) and a ZnO nanorod were performed in a scanning electron microscope (SEM). The force sensor was a cantilever type and was mounted in front of a nanomanipulator placed in the chamber. The nanomanipulator was controlled using a joystick and personal computer. The nanostructures dispersed on the cut area of a transmission electron microscope (TEM) grid were gripped with the force sensor by exposing an electron beam in the SEM; the tensile tests were the performed. The in situ tensile loads of the nanostructure were obtained. After the tensile test, the cross-sectional areas of the nanostructures were observed by TEM and SEM. Based on the TEM and SEM results, the elastic modulus of the MWCNT and ZnO nanorod were calculated to be 0.98 TPa and 55.85 GPa, respectively.
Using a cantilever type nanoprobe having a 100㎚m aperture at the apex of the pyramidal tip of a near-field scanning optical microscope (NSOM), nanopatterning of polymer films are conducted. Two different types of polymer, namely a positive photoresist (DPR-i5500) and an azopolymer (Poly disperse orange-3), spincoated on a silicon wafer are used as the substrate. A He-Cd laser with a wavelength of 442㎚ is employed as the illumination source. The optical near-field produced at the tip of the nanoprobe induces a photochemical reaction on the irradiated region, leading to the fabrication of nanostructures below the diffraction limit of the laser light. By controlling the process parameters properly, nanopatterns as small as 100㎚ are produced on both the photoresist and azopolymer samples. The shape and size variations of the nanopatterns are examined with respect to the key process parameters such as laser beam power, irradiation time or scanning speed of the probe, operation modes of the NSOM (DC and AC modes), etc. The characteristic features during the fabrication of ordered structures such as dot or line arrays using NSOM lithography are investigated. Not only the direct writing of nano array structures on the polymer films but also the fabrication of NSOM-written patterns on the silicon substrate were investigated by introducing a passivation layer over the silicon surface. Possible application of thereby developed NSOM lithography technology to the fabrication of data storage is discussed.

In this study, the research was carried out on how to identify the modal parameter by acquiring the output response of the structure only through the smart sensor system. The objective of this research is to verify the performance and the on-site adaptability of the smart sensor system that have been actively researched as the advanced measuring system so far. Smart Sensor System was developed so that the real-time dynamic measurement can be performed by means of MEMS-type accelerated sensor, 8 bit CPU, wireless MODEM. In the modal parameter identification test, random excitation was added to the cantilever beam, and then the response of the structure was obtained using the smart sensor system and the wire measurement system respectively. In analyzing the data, modal parameter was identified using NExT & ERA algorithm. Furthermore, the optimal measurement location was selected through EOT algorithm in order to obtain the qualified output response. Result of the test, it was possible to verify the on-site applicability of the smart sensor.

Building structures of apartment in korea conventionally adopt shear walls using coupling beams as seismic force-resisting systems. Energy dissipating devices employed the building structures are used instead of the coupling beams in order to increase the seismic performances by providing additional damping and stiffness. This study aims to introduce energy dissipating devices which are preferred in structural system and aims to investigate structural behaviors of shear wall structures employing such devices instead of coupling beams. In order for achieve research objectives, Finite Element Analysis and Nonlinear analysis was carry out. Finite Element Analysis results was correspond with experimental results and this is indicated that the device can provide sufficient additional damping and stiffness into shear wall structures. Throughout nonlinear static analyses, examples structures with the devices can enhance seismic performance of building structures due to their sufficient energy dissipating capacities. Especially, strength and ductility capacities were significantly improved when it is compared with the performance of building structures without the devices. Throughout nonlinear dynamic analyses, it was observed that structural damages can be mitigated due to reduced seismic demands for seismic force-resisting systems. It is especially noted due to the fact that story drifts, accelerations, shear demands are reduced by 15~18%, 20~28% and 15~20%, respectively.
Fixed connection is generally used for beam and column connections of concrete structures, but significant damages at the connection due to severe earthquakes have been reported. In order to reduce damages of the connection and improve seismic performance of the connection, several innovative connections have been suggested. One newly proposed connection type allows a rotation of the connection for applications in rotating or rocking beams, columns, and shear walls. Such structural elements would provide a nonlinear lateral force-displacement response since their contact depth developed during rotation is gradually reduced and the stress across the sections of the elements is non-linearly distributed around a contact area, which is called an elastic hinge region in the present study. The purpose of the present study is to define the elastic hinge region or length for the rocking columns, through investigating the cross-sectional stress distribution during their lateral behavior. Performing a finite element analysis (FEA), several parameters are considered including axial load levels (5% and 10% of nominal strength), different boundary conditions (confined-ends and cantilever types), and slenderness ratios (length/depth = 5, 7, 10). The FEA results showed that the elastic hinge length does not directly depend on the parameters considered, but it is governed by a contact depth only. The elastic hinge length started to develop after an opening state and increased non-linearly until a rocking point(pre-rocking). However, the length did not increase any more after the rocking point (post-rocking) and remained as a constant value. Half space model predicting the elastic hinge length is adapted and the results are compared with the numerical results.
