High precision 3-dimensional object measurement using slit type of laser projector (슬리트형 레이저 투광기를 이용한 고정밀 3차원 물체계측)

  • In this paper, we designed a line CCD camera for a flying image, which is composed of a line CCD sensor(2048 cells) and a rotating mirror, and investigated its optical properties. We also made the 3-D image from the flying image which is made of 2-D image being juxtaposed to 1-D images obtained by the camera, and performed the calibration to acquire high precision 3-D data. As a result, we obtained the 3-D measurement system using the slit type of laser projector is available to measure the high precision shape of objects.

  • It is needed many images with different exposure to acquire high dynamic range (HDR) image of a scene using digital still camera. This paper proposed to acquire HDR image with small error using reduced number of image. Proposed method takes two pictures with different exposure and estimates dynamic range of scene using information two images, and takes three pictures with calculated proper exposure to acquire HDR image.

  • This paper presents machine vision technique with a camera modeling that accounts for major sources of camera distortion, namely, radial, decentering, and thin prism distortion. Radial distortion causes an inward or outward displacement of a given image point from its ideal location. Actual optical systems are subject to various degrees of decentering, that is, the optical centers of lens elements are not strictly collinear. It is our purpose to develop the vision system for the pattern recognition and the automatic test of parts and to apply the line of manufacturing.

  • This paper presents machine vision technique with a camera modeling that accounts for major sources of camera distortion, namely,radial, decentering, and thin prism distortion. Actual optical systems are subject to varios degrees of decentering,that is,the optical centers of lens elements are not strictly collinear. Thin prism distortion arises form imperfection in lens design and manufacturing as well as camera assembly.   • This System is developed for the estimation of the Camera Lens Resolution. Signal data proportional to light intensity is obtained and sampled from the 2D CCD. Based on the measured signal. the MTF charateristcs of a camera lens are measured. We could measure the sagittal and tangential MTF in the on and off-axis at the same time. The automatic measurig methods for optimal image plane, magnification, and best marginal direction of test lens are presented.

  • In the field of camera motion research, it is widely held that the position (movement) and pose (rotation) of cameras are correlated and cannot be independently separated. A new equation based on inner product is proposed here to independently separate the position and pose. It is proved that the position and pose are not correlated and the equation is applied to estimation of the camera exterior parameters using a real image and 3D data.

  • We propose a method to compose a foreground object into a background image, where the foreground object is a part (or a region) of an image taken by a front-facing camera and the background image is a whole image taken by a back-facing camera in a smart phone at the same time. Recent high-end cell-phones have two cameras and provide users with preview video before taking photos. We extract the foreground object that is moving along with the front-facing camera using the optical flow during the preview. We compose the extracted foreground object into a background image using a simple image composition technique. For better-looking result in the composed image, we apply a border smoothing technique using a weighted-border mask to blend transparency from background to foreground. Since constructing and grouping pixel-level dense optical flow are quite slow even in high-end cell-phones, we compute a mask to extract the foreground object in low-resolution image, which reduces the computational cost greatly. Experimental result shows the effectiveness of our extraction and composition techniques, with much less computational time in extracting the foreground object and better composition quality compared with Poisson image editing technique which is widely used in image composition. The proposed method can improve limitedly the color bleeding artifacts observed in Poisson image editing using weighted-border blending.

Economical image stitching algorithm for portable panoramic image assistance in automotive application

  • In this study an economical image stitching algorithm for use in automotive industry is developed for retrofittable panoramic image assistance applications. The aim of this project is to develop a driving assistance system known as Panoramic Parking Assistance (PPA) which is cheap, retrofittable and compatible for every type of automobiles. PPA generates bird's eye view image using cameras installed on the automobiles. Image stitching requires to get bird's eye view position of the vehicle. Panoramic images are wide area images that cannot be available by taking one shot, attained by stitching the overlapping areas. To achieve correct stitching many algorithms are used. This study includes some type of these algorithms and presents a simple one that is economical and practical. Firstly, the mathematical model of a wide view of angle camera is provided. Then distorted image correction is performed. Stitching is implemented by using the SIFT and SURF algorithms. It has been seen that using such algorithms requires complex image processing knowledge and implementation of high quality digital processors, which would be impracticle and costly for automobile use. Thus a simpler algorithm has been developed to decrase the complexity. The proposed algorithm uses one matching point for every couple of images and has ease of use and does not need high power processors. To show the efficiency, images coming from four distinct cameras are stitched by using the algorithm developed for the study and usability for automotive application is analyzed.

Conversion of Fisheye Image to Perspective Image Using Nonlinear Scaling Function (비선형 스케일링 함수를 이용한 어안 영상의 원근 변환)

  • The fisheye image acquired with a fisheye camera has wider field of view than a general use camera. But large distortion of the object in the image requires conversion of the fisheye image to the perspective image because of user's difficult perception. The existing Ishii's method[1] has the problem that the object can has sire and geometrical distortion in the transformed image because it uses equidistance projection. This paper presented a conversion technique of the fisheye image to the perspective image using sealing function. In the experiments, it was shown that our method reduced size and geometrical distortion by applying the scaling function.

  • Because of the development of computers and high-technology applications, all devices that we use have become more intelligent. In recent years, security and surveillance systems have become more complicated as well. Before new technologies included video surveillance systems, security cameras were used only for recording events as they occurred, and a human had to analyze the recorded data. Nowadays, computers are used for video analytics, and video surveillance systems have become more autonomous and automated. The types of security cameras have also changed, and the market offers different kinds of cameras with integrated software. Even though there is a variety of hardware, their capabilities leave a lot to be desired. Therefore, this drawback is trying to compensate by dint of computer program solutions. Image processing is a very important part of video surveillance and security systems. Capturing an image exactly as it appears in the real world is difficult if not impossible. There is always noise to deal with. This is caused by the graininess of the emulsion, low resolution of the camera sensors, motion blur caused by movements and drag, focus problems, depth-of-field issues, or the imperfect nature of the camera lens. This paper reviews image processing, pattern recognition, and image digitization techniques, which will be useful in security services, to analyze bio-images, for image restoration, and for object classification.
