A Video Coding Scheme for Reconstructing an Interest Region with High Quality

  • In the circumstances we want to deal with, a transmission channel is limited and a global motion can happen by camera movement, and also there exists a region-of-interest(ROI) which is more important than background. So very low bit rate coding algorithm is required and processing of global motion must be considered. Also ROI must be reconstructed with required quality after decoding because of its importance. But the existing methods such as H.261, H.263 can not reconstruct ROIs with high quality because they do not consider the fact that ROIs are more important than background. So a new coding scheme is proposed that describes a method for encoding image sequences distinguishing bits between ROI and background. Experimental results show that the suggested algorithm performs well especially in the circumstances where background changes and the area of ROI is small enough compared with that of background.

  • Driven by the unavailibility of commercial test equipment for tensile and creep testing at temperatures up to $3000^{\circ}C$ a measuring system has been developed and constructed at the University of Applied Sciences, Jena. These temperatures are reached with precision by heating samples directly by electric current. Contact-less strain measurements are carried out with image processing software utilizing a CCD camera system. This paper covers results of creep tests which have been conducted on TZM sheet material (thickness 2 mm) in different heat-treatment conditions in the temperature range between $1200^{\circ}C$ and $1600^{\circ}C$.

  • This paper describes design, implementation and functional test of on-board flight analog video system. Video system is the part of the telemetry system as a means of providing flight vehicle's image data. Adopting analog video transmission technique, we could design and test the system in a short time and implement the prototype model with simpler circuits. As results of the functional test, we have made the verification and validation of two cameras' switching in time, and frequency modulation and demodulation of NTSC color signals successfully.

  • 본 논문은 U5P 프로세서 기반의 스마트 카메라에 사용되는 효율적이고 소형화된 영상 저리 플랫폼의 설계에 대해 설명한다 제한된 소량의 기억장치를 갖는 내장형 시스템의 제약조건을 만족시키기 위해서 제안된 플랫폼은 블록 처리의 개념을 사용하여 입력 영상을 처리한다. 먼저 입력 영상이 적당한 수의 데이터 블록으로 나누어진다. 그리고 나서 영상 불록들은 일련의 블록 기반 함수들에 의해서 처리된다. 처리된 블록들은 다시 하나의 결과 영상으로 모아진다. 블록 처리는 요구되는 메모리 크기를 줄여줄 뿐만 아니라 multithreading과 병렬 처리를 통한 더 빠른 수행을 가능하도록 해준다. 플랫폼을 구성하는 대부분의 함수들은 이러만 블록 처리의 장점을 살려서 일련의 영상 블록들을 처리한다. 소개되는 플랫폼은 특화된 하드웨어를 사용하지 않고 사용자의 요구에 맞는 또다른 영상 처리와 압축 기법을 추가하는 것이 가능하게 해준다.

A Study on the Strain Analysis by Image Processing Technique (화상처리기법을 이용한 변형율해석에 관한 연구)

  • The scanning moire method, in which the master grating is replaced by the scanning line of television camera and in which the moire pattern is obtained by thining out some scanning line, is discussed by the sampling theory. It is determined also by the sampling theory that relationship between the fringe pattern. The programs that analyze the strain by the scanning moire method have been developed. For the simulation model in which we are able to calculate analytically the distribution of strains, the scanning moire method is discussed. It is shown that the small strains and the large strains are analyzed from the same picture by the thinning out technique and that the accuracy of analysis is improved by change of the phase in the thinning out technique.

  • A localization system to estimate the position as well as movement direction of mobile robots is proposed in this paper. This system implements a camera fixed on a robot and color patches evenly distributed and mounted on the planar ceiling. Different permutations of patch colors code information about robot localization. Thus, extraction of color information from patch images leads to estimation of robot position. Additionally, simple geometric indicators are combined with patch colors to estimate robot's movement direction. Since only the distribution of patch colors has to be known, the analysis of patch images to is relatively fast and simple. The proposed robot localization system has been successfully tested for navigation of sample mobile robot. Obtained test results indicate the robustness and reliability of proposed technique for robot navigation.

  • This paper presents a system of road extraction for traffic images from a single camera. The road in the images is subject to large changes in appearance because of environmental effects. The proposed system is based on the integration of color correlograms and random forest. The color correlogram depicts the color properties of an image properly. Using the random forest, road extraction is formulated as a learning paradigm. The combined effects of color correlograms and random forest create a robust system capable of extracting the road in very changeable situations.

Study on Extraction of the Center Point of Steam Generator Tubes (증기발생기 세관의 중심좌표추출에 대한 연구)

  • This paper describes extraction procedure for the center coordinates of steam generator tubes of Youngkwang NPP #6, which are arrayed in triangular patterns. Steam generator tube images taken with wide field-of-view lens and low-light lamp mounted on a ccd camera tend to have low contrast, because steam generator is sealed and poorly illuminated. The extraction procedures consists of two steps. The first step is to process the region with superior contrast in entire image of steam generator tubes and to extract the center points. Using the extracted coordinates in the first step and the geometrical array characteristics of tubes lined up in regular triangle forms, the central points of the rest region with low contrast are estimated. The straight lines from center point of a tube to neighbour points in horizontal and 60, 120$^{\circ}$ degree directions are derived. The intersections of straight line In horizontal direction and slant line in regular triangle direction are selected as the center coordinates of steam generator tubes. The Chi-square interpolation method is used to determine the line's coefficients in horizontal and regular triangle direction.

  • This paper proposes a method of assembling parts using visual servoing in dynamic environment. We use SSD(Sum of Square Difference) based on adaptive template in order to detect a moving object in the case where the robot and the object both move. And the control input of the robot is obtained from the feed-back signal of the feature movement and the feed-forward signal of the camera movement in image plane.
