Vision System for NN-based Emotion Recognition (신경회로망 기반 감성 인식 비젼 시스템)

  • In this paper, we propose the neural network based emotion recognition method for intelligently recognizing the human's emotion using vision system. In the proposed method, human's emotion is divided into four emotion (surprise, anger, happiness, sadness). Also, we use R,G,B(red, green, blue) color image data and the gray image data to get the highly trust rate of feature point extraction. For this, we propose an algorithm to extract four feature points (eyebrow, eye, nose, mouth) from the face image acquired by the color CCD camera and find some feature vectors from those. And then we apply back-prapagation algorithm to the secondary feature vector(position and distance among the feature points). Finally, we show the practical application possibility of the proposed method.

  • The digital images to be used for digital vision measurement like digital face mapping and photogrammetric monitoring in construction could be influenced by various conditions such as a kind of light, the intensity of radiation, camera set-up and so on. Because it is very difficult to assess the rock mass from the digital images acquired under different circumstances, some tests and analysis are carried out to modify the images to be suitable and consistent for the digital image optimization. As a result, the recommended conditions for the acquisition of optimized digital images are suggested.

Frequency-Based Image Analysis of Random Patterns: an Alternative Way to Classical Stereocorrelation

  • The paper presents an alternative way to classical stereocorrelation. First, 2D image processing of random patterns is described. Sub-pixel displacements are determined using phase analysis. Then distortion evaluation is presented. The distortion is identified without any assumption on the lens model because of the use of a grid technique approach. Last, shape measurement and shape variation is caught by fringe projection. Analysis is based on two pin-hole assumptions for the video-projector and the camera. Then, fringe projection is coupled to in-plane displacement to give rise to 3D measurement set-up. Metrological characterization shows a resolution comparable to classical (stereo) correlation technique ($1/100^{th}$ pixel). Spatial resolution seems to be an advantage of the method, because of the use of temporal phase stepping (shape measurement, 1 pixel) and windowed Fourier transform (in plane displacements measurement, 9 pixels). Two examples are given. First one is the study of skin properties; second one is a study on leather fabric. In both cases, results are convincing, and have been exploited to give mechanical interpretation.

Image Processing System for Measuring the Chromatophore Pollution Solution of and Animal Slurry Using Optical-Density (가축분뇨수의 색소오염물질 분해과정 측정 영상처리 시스템)

  • This study conducted to monitor decomposition process of the charomatophore pollution solution of an animal slurry by using a CCD camera. After the solution was put into test tube, the images(R, G, B, H, L, S) values of the solution were measured by the imgae processing system, and those of it\`s optical density were measured for three hours to be decomposed by microscopic organism. The values of measured for three hours to be decomposed by microscopic organism. The values of measured images(R, G, B, H, L, S) were analysed and compared with those of the optical density. Some of the results are as follows. 1. High correlation coefficients, which analyzed by using data on linear equations, were 0.9557 and 0.9672. They were decreased regularly in this R-value experiment of RGB level. The microscopic organism in this experiment was effective for decomposition of the red charomatophore pollution solution. 2. The values of all correlation coefficients from relationship between RGB-value and optical density were more than 0.95 except H-values. RGB-values, which were average values of summed R, G, B values, had correlation coefficients of 0.9863, 0.9937. These results showed so good relationship that decomposition process of charomatophore pollution solution could be monitored by a image processing system.

  • Panoramic image creation has been extensively studied. Existing methods use customized hardware, or apply post-processing methods to seamlessly stitch images. These result in an increase in either cost or complexity. In addition, images can only be stitched under certain conditions such as existence of characteristic points of the images. This paper proposes a low cost and easy-to-use system that produces realtime panoramic video. We use an off-the-shelf embedded platform to capture multiple images, and these are then transmitted to a server in a compressed format to be merged into a single panoramic video. Finally, we analyze the performance of the implemented system by measuring time to successfully create the panoramic image.

  • The digital camera is impossible to preserve the appearance of a scene containing high dynamic range due to a limitations of the sensing hardware. The Retinex was proposed on the purpose to solve these problems. While the Retinex enhances visibility and color constancy, it sometimes suffers from color distortion, halo effect and reduced global contrast. This paper presents an advanced Retinex algorithm working on the YCbCr color coordinate to reduce the processing time and to improve the global contrast and color. Simulation results show that our algorithm significantly reduces the total processing time, and provide the superior result image by improving the global contrast and color consistency as well as by reducing the halo effect around the boundaries.

  • In this paper, we propose a method for dynamic selection of unrestricted motion vector(UMV) or default prediction mode(DPM) in H.263 bit stream. For this, we use the error of compensated image and the magnitude of motion vector. In the proposed strategy, the UMV mode is dynamically applied in a frame according to average magnitude of motion vector and error of compensated image. This scheme has improved the quality of image compared to the fixed mode UMV or DPM only. Number of searching points are greatly reduced when comparing to UMV. The Proposed method is more profitable to long video sequences having camera movement locally.

Development of monocular video deflectometer based on inclination sensors

  • The video deflectometer based on digital image correlation is a non-contacting optical measurement method which has become a useful tool for characterization of the vertical deflections of large structures. In this study, a novel imaging model has been established which considers the variations of pitch angles in the full image. The new model allows deflection measurement at a wide working distance with high accuracy. A monocular video deflectometer has been accordingly developed with an inclination sensor, which facilitates dynamic determination of the orientations and rotation of the optical axis of the camera. This layout has advantages over the video deflectometers based on theodolites with respect to convenience. Experiments have been presented to show the accuracy of the new imaging model and the performance of the monocular video deflectometer in outdoor applications. Finally, this equipment has been applied to the measurement of the vertical deflection of Yingwuzhou Yangtze River Bridge in real time at a distance of hundreds of meters. The results show good agreement with the embedded GPS outputs.

  • OCR(Optical Character Recognition) using computers has been developed for 20 years and applied to various fields such as parking management based on the recognition of license plates of cars. This technology was also used in the development of our smart OCR-based household ledger. In order to improve filling the purchase history into a smartphone based household account book, we can take pictures of receipts with the smarphone camera and automatically organize the purchase list. In this process, the recognition rate of the characters of the receipt image is not high enough with OCR technology. We could improve the rate by applying the image processing technology and adjusting the contrast of the receipt image. The rate improved from 89% to 92.5%.

  • Under the influence of Autonomous Driving and AI, it is important to accurately recognize and judge objects through cameras. In particular, since a method of recognizing an object using a camera can obtain a large amount of information visually compared to other methods, many image signal processing methods have been studied to extract an accurate image. In addition, a lot of research is being carried out to implementation about hardware. In this work, we compare the principles and characteristics of the sorting algorithms that are frequently used in image signal processing and summarize the performance evaluation. Based on this, we define an efficient algorithm when implemented in hardware among efficient sorting algorithms.
