  • In this paper, we present a method for obtaining the actual modeling data through reconstructing a 3D data from an image and a method of estimating the geometrical information and the camera location of architectural objects from a photograph containing a virtual environment are introduced. Our approach combines both geometry-based and image-based modeling techniques. The modeling system is effective and robust because it exploits constrains that are characteristic of architectural scenes. Our approach can recover models for use in either geometry-based rendering systems. We present results that demonstrate out approach´s ability to create realistic renderings of architectural scenes from viewpoints far from the original photographs.

  • For autonomous navigation of the mobile robots, the robots' capability to recognize 3D environment is necessary. In this paper, an on-line 3D map building method for autonomous mobile robots is proposed. To get range data on the environment, we use a sensor system which is composed of a structured light and a CCD camera based on optimal triangulation. The structured laser is projected as a horizontal strip on the scene. The sensor system can rotate$\pm$30$^{\circ}$ with a goniometer. Scanning the system, we get the laser strip image for the environments and update planes composing the environment by some image processing steps. From the laser strip on the captured image, we find a center point of each column, and make line segments through blobbing these center points. Then, the planes of the environments are updated. These steps are done on-line in scanning phase. With the proposed method, we can efficiently get a 3D map about the structured environment.

  • Thermal infrared imaging is a highly promising technology for condition monitoring and predictive maintenance of electronic, electrical and mechanical elements in nuclear power plants. However, conventional low-cost infrared imaging systems suffer from poor spatial resolution compared to commercial CCD cameras. This paper describes an approach to enhance inspection performances for calandria reactor area of Wolsung nuclear power plant through the technique of superimposing thermal infrared image into real CCD image. In the occurrence of thermal abnormalities on observation points and areas of calandria reactor area, unusual hot image taken from thermal infrared camera is mapped upon re...

  • This paper presents a new method which is calculated to use only three vanishing points in order to compute the dimensions of object and its pose from a single image of perspective projection taken by a camera and the problem of recovering 3D models from three vanishing points of box scene. Our approach is to compute only three vanishing points without this information such as the focal length, rotation matrix, and translation from images in the case of perspective projection. We assume that the object can be modeled as a linear function of a dimension vector ν. The input of reconstruction is a set of correspondences between features in the model and features in the image. To minimize each the dimensions of the parameterized models, this reconstruction of optimization can be solved by the standard nonlinear optimization techniques with a multi-start method which generates multiple starting points for the optimizer by sampling the parameter space uniformly.

  • The KOMPSAT-II has a MSC(Multi-Spectral Camera) payload for earth observatory. The image data acquired during the pass over the Korean Peninsula can be sent to the ground station directly. But the image data out of the contact range should be stored temporally for later transmission. The KOMPSAT-II has a device for this purpose called the DCSU(Data Compression and Storage Unit) and the DCSU also performs compression functions for saving storage space and transmission time to send image data to the ground station. In this paper, we'd like to introduce the DCSU memory structures and operation.

  • Recently, the IDS(Intrusion Detection System) using a video camera is an important part of the home security systems which start gaining popularity. However, the video intruder detection has not been widely used in the home surveillance systems due to its unreliable performance in the environment with abrupt illumination change. In this paper, we propose an effective moving edge extraction algorithm from a sequence image. The proposed algorithm extracts edge segments from current image and eliminates the background edge segments by matching them with reference edge list, which is updated at every frame, to find the moving edge segments. The test results show that it can detect the contour of moving object in the noisy environment with abrupt illumination change.

  • In this paper, we have proposed an automatic inspection system for cracks on the surface of a structure. The proposed system consists of the imaging system and the veh~cle system. The imaging system. a set of optical sensor, lens, illuminator, storage and their configuration, images the scene and store it on the hard disk. We adopted a linescan camera of 5000 pixel density to achieve high resolution without loss of simplicity. The vehicle system that moves the optical system IS ~mplemented by an AGV. The AGV moves forward at constant velocity and avoid obstacles to acquire a stable image. We have cmplemented an experimental system and have acquired images of the wall of hallway. The image is of 0.1-mmipixel resolution and the scanning time IS about 1 mlsec. The allow able scan.

  • At the KACC'91 conference, we proposed a method of automatic detection of shape of the faulty holes of a shadow mask which is used in a cathode-ray tube of a color television. In this method, the image data are taken from two areas of the mask with CCD camera. Comparing the shape of holes in these two areas by use of a signal processing technique, we can find any fault in the shape of holes. This paper describes the effect of smoothing filters of effectively finding the faulty holes from the difference image data. A computer simulation and actual experiment with a shadow mask have shown that this method of fault detection is very effective for practical use.

  • In this paper a binary image encryption technique and decryption system based on a joint transform correlator (JTC) are Proposed. In this method, a Fourier transform of the encrypted image is used as the encrypted data and a Fourier transform of the random phase is used as the key code. The original binary image can be reconstructed on a square law device, such as a CCD camera after the joint input is inverse Fourier transformed. The proposed encryption technique does not suffer from strong auto-correlation terms appearing in the output plane. Based on computer simulations, the proposed encryption technique and decoding system were demonstrated as adequate for optical security applications.

  • In this paper, we calculate the moving velocity of viewer by using two eye images obtained at different time through the camera. This process is necessary for future 3D display technique, in which moving viewer can see 3D image continuously We firstly extract two eyes image and calculate the pixel coordinate of center point between two eyes. Next, we calculate the moving velocity in two dimension by comparing two center point coordinates obtained at different time.
