  • Camera Calibration should certain)y be achieved to take an accurate measurement using image system. Calibration is to prove the relation between an measurement object and camera and to estimate twelve internal and external parameters. In this paper, we suggest that an algorithm should estimate the external parameters from the road image and use a vanishing point's character from parallel straight lines in a space. also, we use Hough Transform to estimate an accurate vanishing point. Hough Transform has one of the advantages which is an application for each road environment. we assume a variety of environments to prove the usability of a suggested algorithm and show simulation results with a computer.

  • A CCD-camera, which is structured with vision system, was used to realize automatic seam-tracking system and 3-D information which is needed to generate torch path, was obtained by using laser-slip beam. To extract laser strip and obtain welding-specific point, Adaptive Hough-transformation was used. Although the basic Hough transformation takes too much time to process image on line, it has a tendency to be robust to the noises as like spatter. For that reson, it was complemented with Adaptive Hough transformation to have an on-line processing ability for scanning a welding-specific point. the dead zone, where the sensing of weld line is impossible, is eliminated by rotating the camera with its rotating axis centered at welding torch. The camera angle is controlled so as to get the minimum image data for the sensing of weld line, hence the image processing time is reduced. The fuzzy controller is adapted to control the camera angle.

  • In this paper, we studied the performance evaluation of a vehicular rear-view camera through quantifying the image quality based on several objective criteria from the ISO (International Organization for Standardization). In addition, various experimental environments are defined considering the conditions under which a rear-view camera may need to operate. The process for evaluating the performance of a rear-view camera is composed of five objective criteria: noise test, resolution test, OECF (opto-electronic conversion function) test, color characterization test, and pincushion and barrel distortion tests. The proposed image quality quantification method then expresses the results of each test as a single value, allowing easy evaluation.

  • By setting a refractor with a certain angle against the optical axis of the CCD camera lens, the image of a measuring point recorded on the image plane is displaced by the corresponding amounts related to the distance between the camera and the measuring point. When the refractor that keeps the angle against the optical axis is rotated physically at high speed during the exposure of the camera, the image of a measuring point draws an annular streak. Since the size of the annular streak is inversely proportional to the distance between the camera and the measuring point, the 3D position of the measuring point can be obtained by processing the streak. In this paper, for one of the applications of our system, the measurement of a moving surface is introduced. In order to measure the moving surface, multi laser spots are projected on the surface of object. Each position of ...

  • A method for calibrating a laser profiling system for seafloor micro-topography measurements is described. The system consists of a digital camera and an arrangement of six red lasers that are mounted as a unit on a remotely operated vehicle (ROV). The lasers project as parallel planes onto the seafloor, creating profiles of the local topography that are interpreted from the digital camera image. The goal of the calibration was to determine the plane equations for the six lasers relative to the camera. This was accomplished in two stages. First, distortions in the digital image were corrected using an interpolation method based on a virtual pinhole camera model. Then, the laser planes were determined according to their intersections with a calibration target. The position and orientation of the target were obtained by a registration process. The selection of the target shape and size was found to be critical to a successful calibration at sea, due to the limitations in the manoeuvrability of the ROV.

  • In this paper, the removal rate of NO in a reactor is measured first using nonthermal plasma generated from a wire-cylinder type reactor, then the spatial density distribution of NO particles is investigated using ICCD(Intensified Charged Coupled Device) camera. This research uses nonthermal plasma from electrical discharge to analyze the NO characteristics, and the measurements of NO discharge image and Distribution are performed using the ICCD camera to examine the NO characteristics more closely. Furthermore, the method of Laser Induced Fluorescence (LIF) is used to analyze the particular behavior of NO particles more specifically, to suggest a method of reducing exhaust gas, a serious environmental problem.

  • In this paper, we propose the improvement method of the camera images regardless of exposure environments. By using a double-exposure method, we could improve camera images with clear recognition. We applied the improvement method on the mobile phone. For the feasibility of the proposed algorithm, we compared simulated camera images with the proposed method to conventional images by using auto-exposure image. Experimental results are also shown in this paper.

  • A parallel looking stereo camera was mainly used as an input sensor for digital image processing, image understanding and the extraction of 3 dimensional information. Theoretical analysis and performance evaluation are dealt in this paper for a convergent looking stereo camera model having a fixation point with the result of crossing optical axes. The quantization error, depth resolution and equidepth map due to digital pixels, and the misalignments effects of pan, tilt and roll angles are analyzed by using rhe relationship between the reference and image coordinate systems. Also horopter, epipolar lines, probability density functions of the depth error, and stereo fusion areas for the two camera models are discussed.

  • In this paper, the detection scheme of the spatial coordinates based on stereo camera for a intelligent path planning of an automatic mobile robot is proposed. In the proposed system, face area of a moving person is detected from a left image among the stereo image pairs by using the YCbCr color model and its center coordinates are computed by using the centroid method and then using these data, the stereo camera embedded on the mobile robot can be controlled for tracking the moving target in real-time. Moreover, using the disparity mad obtained from the left and right images captured by the tracking-controlled stereo camera system and the perspective transformation between a 3-D scene. and an image plane, depth information can be detected. Finally, based-on the analysis of these calculated coordinates, a mobile robot system is derived as a intelligent path planning and a estimation.

  • Finger language is a typical tool for deaf persons. But learning the finger language for non-handicapped persons is very difficult. To overcome these difficulties, a new communication method using visual function is developed recently. Even though the developed system uses the visual function, it needs expensive equipments such as camera and computer. To be used in the real environments, the cost of equipments is a critical factor. If the recognition system for the finger language can be developed with low price equipments, the system can be used in the notebook or cellular phone. The image captured by PC camera was processed by preprocessing algorithm. To recognize the finger language, the resulting image was divide into $5{\times}5$ sections. The recognition system uses a similarity method and position information. The simulation results shows the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.
