A Prospect of the Future Power System Configuration with 22kV Class Superconducting Cable (22kV급 초전도 케이블을 이용한 미래 전력계통 구성 방안 고찰)

  • As power demand increases gradually, the call for underground transmission system increases. But it is very difficult and high in cost to construct new ducts and/or tunnels for power cables in metropolitan areas. HTS (High Temperature Superconducting) cable has the several useful characteristics such as increased power density. Therefore HTS cable can allow more power to be moved in existing ducts, which means very large economical and environmental benefits. In this paper, we investigate the status of korean power system and underground transmission system. Based on this, the feasibility study on applying 22kV class HTS cable to korean power system is carried out and then we propose the new power system configuration of metropolitan area with 22kV class HTS cable.

HTS (High Temperature Superconducting) cable has the several useful characteristics such as increased power density. Therefore HTS cable can allow more power to be moved in existing ducts, which means very large economical and environmental benefits. In this paper, we carried out investigation for Application of 22kV class HTS cable in Korean utility networks. The results show that the HTS cable is applicable to replace IPB in pumping-up power plant, withdrawal line in distributed generation, withdrawal line in complex power plant, and conventional under ground cable. Finally, as the cost of HTS wire and refrigeration drops, the technical and economical potential of HTS cable is evaluated positively.

  • Due to various advantages over the conventional linear motion device such as ball-screw, linear motors have been used in wide variety of industrial applications for years. Driven by increased demand for precision machine tools, the importance of high positioning accuracy, high stiffness and high thrust are greatly increasing. The merits of linear motor are high speed, high acceleration and good positioning accurcy. In addition, Linear motor for high quality machine tool call for high thrust, high stiffness. In this paper, thrust ripple, detent force and thermal behavior are considered for the development of high performance linear motor whose thrust is up to 4,000N. This paper presents a comprehensive study for an iron core type linear motor characteristics that include the influence of PM position on thrust, thrust ripple by detent force and motor dynamics as well.

  • Since the mid-1980's, strategic alliances are dominantly hailed as an effective growth and survival strategy in the era of international market and multinational corporation. There are a number of reasons for this phenomenon. there is an increasing globalization of markets in an ever-widening band of industries, together with the development of global technologies that makes production cycles shorten and the ever-increasing demand for investment resources and information to cope with the changing environment. The purpose of this study is to investigate the determinants of corporation information system in strategic alliance mode, and to analyze the main factors which are affecting the choice of strategic alliance mode by Korean firms. This study can also contribute theoretical and practical suggestive points in relation to strategic alliance operations. However, it also has limits as an exploratory study due to lacks of prior studies and proper methodologies and so on. Accordingly, the phenomenon of international strategic alliances call for further studies on casual relationships between main factors and variables in this field.

Augmenting Path Algorithm for Routing Telephone Calls Problem

  • This paper deals with the optimization problem that decides the routing of connection between multi-source and multi-sink. For this problem, there is only in used the mathematical approach as linear programming (LP) software package and has been unknown the polynomial time algorithm. In this paper we suggest the heuristic algorithm with $O(mn)^2$ time complexity to solve the optimal solution for this problem. This paper suggests the simple method that assigns the possible call flow quantity to augmenting path of ($s_i,t_i$) city pair satisfied with demand of ($s_i,t_i$). The proposed algorithm can be get the same optimal solution as LP for experimental data.

  • Transformation of complexity and diverse life style of contemporary men have call for increase in demand of single's and couple's living space of one-room apartment. Feasibility for intensive use of one-room apartment, regardless of it's openness and flexible character, multiple function in a single concentrated room without privacy and lack of confrontation of the changes in diverse living pattern enhance uniformity which reflects as an essential problem. Therefore, this study is to present a direction of one-room apartment interior space planning to differentiate from the existing system of uniformity and it's problems. Within the concept of flexibility, establishment of the flexibility factors for the application of hinged system with a movable furniture to compose a flexible space. In conclusion, the applications of hinged system concept of sliding, folding, over-hangings, are applied in existing one-room apartment plan to enhance flexible space planning which to drive in motivation and adaptation of the dweller's life cycle.

HTS (High Temperature Superconducting) cable has the several useful characteristics such as increased power density, stronger fields and/or reduced losses. Therefore HTS cable can allow more power to be moved in existing ducts, which means very large economical and environmental benefits. In these days, companies world-wide have conducted researches on HTS cable. A development project for a 22.9kV class HTS cable is proceeding at a research center and university in Korea. In this paper, we investigate the expected price of HTS cable to have a merit in viewpoint of economic aspect. First, life-cycle cost of conventional cable is calculated and based on this, the expected price of HTS cable is evaluated, which HTS cable is competitive against conventional cable.

  • The sudden shock of repeated oil crisis and the subsequent violent increases in petroleum prices have given rise to an intensive worldwide effort to develop alternate sources of clean energy. Against this background, a great deal of attention has recently come to be focused on mini-scale hydroelectric power turbine generation. There is now a strong demand for the development of a hydroelectric generator suitable for generating power on a small scale and copable of overcoming the high per kilowatt cost of conventional one's then Francis turbine. Hence was accordingly developed the "Cross flowturbine generator" of 1000kw and less, which we call. This mimi-scale water turbine is reliably and easily handled and also can be economicaly manufactored in a range with effective head of over 3meter's a flow rate of minimum 30 liter per sec and an output of below 1000kw good's.kw good's.

  • Communication network is in a transition toward the NGN (Next Generation Networks) to accommodate the explosive demand of new services. The NGN allows the third-party application provisioning by defining the networks as layers of Services, Distributed Processing Environment and Transport. Especially, the Service layer can further be divided into Application and Service Component layer. In order to realize the third-party application provisioning, the Parlay Group has adopted an open Parlay API as an interface between the Application and the Service Component layer. Using Parlay API, the third parties may develop and deploy the IT-based applications at the Application layer exploiting the service components located within network operators' domain. In this paper, we present the implementation details about the Third Party Call Control (TPCC) Service using the third-party service logic based on Parlay API and Parlay X API, when SIP is used as a signaling protocol in Transport layer. Also, we compare the performance evaluation of both implementations.

  • RPC (Remote Procedure Call)-based Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) virtualization technology is one of the technologies for sharing GPUs with multiple user virtual machines. However, in a cloud environment, unlike CPU or memory, general GPUs do not provide a resource isolation technology that can limit the resource usage of virtual machines. In particular, in an RPC-based virtualization environment, since GPU tasks executed in each virtual machine are performed in the form of multi-process, the lack of resource isolation technology causes performance degradation due to resource competition. In addition, the GPU memory competition accelerates the performance degradation as the resource demand of the virtual machines increases, and the fairness decreases because it cannot guarantee equal performance between virtual machines. This paper, in the RPC-based GPU virtualization environment, analyzes the performance degradation problem caused by resource contention when the GPU memory requirement of virtual machines exceeds the available GPU memory capacity and proposes a GPU memory management technique to solve this problem. Also, experiments show that the GPU memory management technique proposed in this paper can improve the performance of GPGPU tasks.
