Aim of this study is to investigate an aerodynamic effect of a drag-reducing device on a heavy-duty truck. The vehicle experiences two different kinds of aerodynamic forces such as drag and uplifting force (or downward force) as it is traveling straight forward at constant speed. The drag force on a vehicle may cause an increase of the rate of fuel consumption and driving instability. The rolling resistance of the vehicle may be increased as result of the negative uplifting or downward force on the vehicle. A device named roof-fairing system has been applied to examine the reduction of aerodynamic drag force on a heavy-duty truck. As for a engineering design information, the drag-reducing system should be studied theoretically and experimentally for the best efficiency of the device. Four different types of roof-fairing model were considered in this study to investigate the aerodynamic effect on a model truck. The drag and downward force generated by vehicle has been obtained from numerical calculation conducted in this study. The forces produced on four fairing models considered in this study has been compared each other to evaluate the best fairing model in terms of aerodynamic performance. The result shows that the roof-fairing mounted truck has bigger negative uplifting or downward force than that of non-mounted truck in all speed ranges, and drag force on roof-fairing mounted truck has smaller than that of non-mounted truck. The drag coefficient $(C_D)$ of the roof-fairing mounted truck (Model-3) is reduced up to $41.3\%$ than that of non-mounted trucks (Model-1). A downward force generated by a roof-fairing mounted on a truck is linearly proportional to the rolling resistance force. Therefore, the negative lifting force on a heavy-duty truck is another important factor in aerodynamic design parameter and should be considered in the design of a drag-reducing device of a tractor-trailer. According to the numerical result obtained from present study, the drag force produced by the model-3 has the smallest of all in all speed ranges and has reasonable downward force. The smaller drag force on model-3 with 2/3h in height may results of smallest thickness of boundary layer generated on the topside of the container and the lowest intensity of turbulent kinetic energy occurs at the rear side of the container.

The belief propagation method that has been studied recently yields good performance in disparity extraction. The method in which a target function is modeled as an energy function based on Markov random field(MRF), solves the stereo matching problem by finding the disparity to minimize the energy function. MRF models provide robust and unified framework for vision problem such as stereo and image restoration. the belief propagation method produces quite correct results, but it has difficulty in real time implementation because of higher computational complexity than other stereo methods. To relieve this problem, in this paper, we propose a fast algorithm of the belief propagation method. Energy function consists of a data term and a smoothness tern. The data term usually corresponds to the difference in brightness between correspondences, and smoothness term indicates the continuity of adjacent pixels. Smoothness information is created from messages, which are assigned using four different message arrays for the pixel positions adjacent in four directions. The processing time for four message arrays dominates 80 percent of the whole program execution time. In the proposed method, we propose an algorithm that dramatically reduces the processing time require in message calculation, since the message.; are not produced in four arrays but in a single array. Tn the last step of disparity extraction process, the messages are called in the single integrated array and this algorithm requires 1/4 computational complexity of the conventional method. Our method is evaluated by comparing the disparity error rates of our method and the conventional method. Experimental results show that the proposed method remarkably reduces the execution time while it rarely increases disparity error.
Purpose: The current study investigates the feasibility of a platform for a nationwide dose monitoring system for dental radiography. The essential elements for an unerring system are also assessed. Materials and Methods: An intraoral radiographic machine with 14 X-ray generators and five sensors, 45 panoramic radiographic machines, and 23 cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) models used in Korean dental clinics were surveyed to investigate the type of dose report. A main server for storing the dose data from each radiographic machine was prepared. The dose report transfer pathways from the radiographic machine to the main sever were constructed. An effective dose calculation method was created based on the machine specifications and the exposure parameters of three intraoral radiographic machines, five panoramic radiographic machines, and four CBCTs. A viewing system was developed for both dentists and patients to view the calculated effective dose. Each procedure and the main server were integrated into one system. Results: The dose data from each type of radiographic machine was successfully transferred to the main server and converted into an effective dose. The effective dose stored in the main server is automatically connected to a viewing program for dentist and patient access. Conclusion: A patient radiation dose monitoring system is feasible for dental clinics. Future research in cooperation with clinicians, industry, and radiologists is needed to ensure format convertibility for an efficient dose monitoring system to monitor unexpected radiation dose.
MIRD-type Korean adult male phantom, 'KMIRD' was constructed to calculate Korean-specific dosimetric quantities for radiation protection consideration. The external shape of KMIRD was based on national physical standard data of Korean. KMIRD has thicket trunk than MIRD5 and arm models divided from trunk. The height and weight of the KMIRD are 171 cm and 63.8 kg. ICRP23 data were referred to constitute organs and tissues of KMIRD. However nine organs were constructed based on Korean reference data provided by Radiation Health Research Institute. In the present study, the MCNPX2.3 Monte Carlo transport code was combined with KMIRD to calculate dose conversion coefficients for photon in the energy range from 0.05 to 10 MeV. The simulated irradiation geometries are broad parallel photon beams in AP, PA, LLAT and RLAT direction. Absorbed dose conversion coefficients were compared with data calculated with MIRD5, MIRD-type phantom based on ICRP23 reference man. In some organs, the discrepancies between two phantoms amount up to nearly 30%. The effective doses conversion coefficients of KMIRD are lower than those of MIRD5. The dose discrepancies between two MIRD-type phantoms ate because of physical differences between Korean and Western, also geometric differences between two phantoms. KMIRD should be revised using the full set of Korean reference data of all organs. The developed MIRD-type Korean adult male phantom can be applied to dose assessment of internal exposure.
To solve the problems of distribution and quality on land gravity data, airborne gravity survey was performed in 2008 obtaining the airborne gravity data with accuracy of 1.56mGal. Since airborne gravity data is the obtained at the flight height, it is necessary to convert the airborne gravity data to the surface to combine various gravity data and compute precision geoid. In addition, Stokes' integral radius, Stokes' kernel and the radius of terrain effect computation should be optimally determined to calculate precision geoid. In this study, we made an effort to decide the optimal parameters based on the distribution and the characteristic of gravity data. Then, two geoid models were calculated using the selected parameters and the difference of geoid was calculated with mean of -16.95cm and the standard deviation of ${\pm}8.50cm$. We consider that this difference is due to the distribution and errors on the gravity data. For future work, the study on the effect of geoid with newly obtained land gravity data ship-borne gravity data and GPS/Leveling data should be conducted. Furthermore, the study on the downward continuation and terran effect calculation should be studied in detail for better precision geoid construction.

Probabilistic seismic hazard analysis (PSHA), which can effectively apply inevitable uncertainties in seismic data, considers a number of seismotectonic models and attenuation equations. The calculated hazard by PSHA is generally a value dependent on peak ground acceleration (PGA) and expresses the value as an annual exceedance probability. To represent the uncertainty range of a hazard which has occurred using various seismic data, a hazard curve figure shows both a mean curve and percentile curves (15, 50, and 85). The percentile performs an important role in that it indicates the uncertainty range of the calculated hazard, could be calculated using various methods by the relation of the weight and hazard. This study using the weight accumulation method, the weighted hazard method, the maximum likelihood method, and the moment method, has calculated the percentile of the computed hazard by PSHA on the Shinuljin 1, 2 site. The calculated percentile using the weight accumulation method, the weighted hazard method, and the maximum likelihood method, have similar trends and represent the range of all computed hazards by PSHA. The calculated percentile using the moment method effectively showed the range of hazards at the source which includes a site. This study suggests the moment method as effective percentile calculation method considering the almost same mean hazard for the seismotectonic model and a source which includes a site.

Experimental and analytical studies on the behavioral characteristics of a pre-stressed (PS) steel girder are conducted to investigate the effects of deviators on the non-linear inelastic properties of the PS system. In this regard, 4 test specimens consisting of a steel H-beam, a straight cable with eccentricity, anchorages, and deviators are built and failure tests are performed under two-point loading. In addition, in-plane elastic deformation theories for the PS system without a deviator, and with three deviators at regular intervals are analytically formulated and solved using a symbolic calculation technique. To verify the validity of the experimental and the proposed analytical theories, the results obtained using FEM models composed of beam elements, rigid beam elements, and truss cable elements, are compared to the experimental results and the analytical solutions. As a result, it is determined that externally installed un-bonded deviators inhibit flexural deformation of the deformed beam to such an extent that their elastic stiffness, and failure strength are significantly improved compared to those of the PS system without deviators.
We calculated tetragonal-$HfO_2$/Si superstructures using density functional theory. When a and b-axes of cubic-$HfO_2$ were increased to be matched with those of Si for epitaxy contact, c-axis was decreased by 2%. Eight models of interface layers were produced by choosing different terminating layers of tetragonal-$HfO_2$ and Si substrate at the interface. It was found that tetragonal-$HfO_2$$(004)_{1/4}$/Si $(004)_{3/4}$ superstructure was the most favorable and tetragonal-$HfO_2$ (004)$_{1/4}$/Si (002) superstructure was the most unfavorable. In tetragonal-$HfO_2$$(004)_{1/4}$/Si (002) superstructure, there were two oxygen vacancies in tetragonal-$HfO_2$ as two oxygen atoms were moved to Si substrate located at the interface.

This study proposed the modified weighting values for jointed rock slopes. The studies on deduction of evaluation index and calculation of weighting, development of criteria for evaluation and evaluation models have been conducted through decision making techniques such as the Delphi method and the AHP method by many researchers. Because these decisions making techniques may be less objective, it is necessary to calculate reasonable weighting considering both an objective weighting and a subjective weighting simultaneously. In this study, utilizing the inspection data of jointed rock slopes, an objective weighting that the concept of entropy is applied was calculated. And the subjective weighting values by AHP technique was calculated based on the opinion of experts. And a modified weighting was suggested by combining the two. As a result, it was found that jointed rock slopes have higher weighting in artificial factors and the damage status items. In addition based on the finally suggested weighting (mixed weighting), the revised evaluation criteria could be presented by converting it into the evaluation score (76 points). And it is expected that it could be usefully utilized upon inspections on cutting slopes and safety diagnosis since objective and highly reliable criteria compared to the condition evaluation criteria that are currently used could be presented through the results of the study.
Excavation by explosives blasting necessarily involves noise and vibration, which is highly prone to face claims on the environmental and structural aspects from the neighbors. When the blasting carried out in the vicinity of a structure, the effect of blasting vibration on the stability of the structure should be carefully evaluated. In the conventional method of evaluation, an equation for blast vibration is obtained from test blasting which is later used to determine the amount of charge. This method, however, has limitations in use since it does not consider topography and change in ground conditions. In order to overcome the limitations, dynamic numerical analysis is recently used in continuum or discontinuous models, where the topography and the ground conditions can be exactly implemented. In the numerical analysis for tunnels and rock slopes, it is very uncommon to simulate multi-hole blasting. A single-hole blasting pressure is estimated and the equivalent overall pressure at the excavation face is used. This approach based on an ideal case usually does not consider the ground conditions. And this consequently results in errors in calculation. In this presentation of a case study, a new approach of using blast waves obtained in the test blast is proposed. The approach was carried out in order to improve the accuracy in calculating blasting pressure. The stability of a structure in the vicinity of a slope blasting was examined using the newly proposed method.
