  • The mathematical expression of the p-value calculation for the semi-partial correlation coefficient differs between Kim (2015) and Cohen et al. (2003). These two expressions were compared and the advantages of Kim (2015)'s approach over Cohen et al. (2003) were discussed.

  • Degree-day method is very simple but essential index to estimate heating and cooling energy demand in buildings. It has been neglected, however, for the simplicity so it is difficult to find any DB for south Korean cities. Even meteorological department of S. Korea doesn't report the data officially. In this study, current methods that are being used in many countries are investigated and used to calculate degree-days of 35 south Korean cities with 30 years(1981~2010) historical data. The calculation result indicates that the error among 4 major methods are dependent on how daily or hourly temperature are treated in the calculation and how balance point temperature is defined. The errors of the methods are no larger than 6% relative to hourly degree-day method.

  • In fire design for floors, the three criteria of stability, integrity and insulation are required for the specified fire resistance duration. Among these, stability is not easy to confirm. For solid prestressed concrete slabs of uniform thickness, Eurocode 2 provides tabulated data and specifies an axis distance to the centroid of strands to achieve particular fire resistance ratings, but it is not clear if this data can be used for a wide range of different prestressed slab profiles. In order to verify the current code-fire ratings for precast prestressed slabs, both simple and advanced calculation methods are investigated. This paper examines the use of calculation methods, accounting for the real behaviour of unprotected simply supported prestressed concrete slabs exposed to the standard ISO 834 fire. The calculated fire resistance of each prestressed concrete slab is compared with tabulated data in Eurocode part 1.2, with detailed discussion.

  • Purpose: In this paper, we propose the output model of the optimal inventory requirements of the Maintenance Float (M/F). Weapon systems were modernized and increased costs. Thus, the complexity increases with. Alternatives to achieve the goal of availability of weapon systems and to reduce life-cycle cost are required. Especially, securing spare parts is more effective than adding the amount of equipment or maintenance facilities to achieve the goal of availability and reduce life cycle costs. However, securing spare parts and repair costs are directly related, so exact requirements are needed. Methods: Three kinds of methods (Calculation method of applying the Poisson distribution, Calculation method of considering the number of CSP, and Calculation method of applying M&S program) that this paper proposed compare the influence of the availability and the amount of spare parts. Result: We calculate the cost of M/F when the operational availability is over than 80% and compare that result. The biggest cost was calculated from the Poisson distribution method. We found that requirements and unit price is the key factor that gives a significant effect. Conclusion: These three kinds of methods can be used as a basis for Maintenance Float calculation. Among them, the calculation method based on CSP is optimal replacement equipment requirements calculation method.

  • A method for dynamic analysis and design calculation of a Powertrain Mounting System(PMS) including Hydraulic Engine Mounts(HEM) is developed with the aim of controlling powertrain motion and reducing low-frequency vibration in pitch and bounce modes. Here the pitch mode of the powertrain is defined as the mode rotating around the crankshaft of an engine for a transversely mounted powertrain. The powertrain is modeled as a rigid body connected to rigid ground by rubber mounts and/or HEMs. A mount is simplified as a three-dimensional spring with damping elements in its Local Coordinate System(LCS). The relation between force and displacement of each mount in its LCS is usually nonlinear and is simplified as piecewise linear in five ranges in this paper. An equation for estimating displacements of the powertrain center of gravity(C.G.) under static or quasi-static load is developed using Newton's second law, and an iterative algorithm is presented to calculate the displacements. Also an equation for analyzing the dynamic response of the powertrain under ground and engine shake excitations is derived using Newton's second law. Formulae for calculating reaction forces and displacements at each mount are presented. A generic PMS with four rubber mounts or two rubber mounts and two HEMs are used to validate the dynamic analysis and design calculation methods. Calculated displacements of the powertrain C.G. under static or quasi-static loads show that a powertrain motion can meet the displacement limits by properly selecting the stiffness and coordinates of the tuning points of each mount in its LCS using the calculation methods developed in this paper. Simulation results of the dynamic responses of a powertrain C.G. and the reaction forces at mounts demonstrate that resonance peaks can be reduced effectively with HEMs designed on the basis of the proposed methods.

  • Recently the use of high-speed equipment in machine-tool industry has greatly increased, which requires the development of prognostics and prediction methods on the design stage. Conversion of the test/experiments stage from real to virtual reality will not only significantly reduce the design and manufacturing cost, but will also increase design quality. This paper shows how it is possible to develop the automated system for the design calculations of the air-bearing spindles. First, the general calculation method is introduced. It contains several steps, namely, geometry identification, pressure calculation, stiffiness calculation, dynamics characteristics calculation. For geometry identification reducing spindle shaft to rings was proposed, which helps to automate the calculation process. For pressure calculation the Peshti method was implemented. For stiffiness calculation the analysis was made, which shown the necessity of correct calculation step selection. Then the system of ordinary differential equations containing influence coefficients was evolved, which is used for trjectories calculation. The graphical representation of the calculation results shows the dynamic behavior of the spindle unit concerning various working conditions. Finally, this automated system is illustrated by an example of the air-bearing spindle calculation.

  • The purpose of this study is to derive a lead thickness calculation formula for direct-shielded doors based on NCRP Report No.151 and IAEA Safety Report Series N0.47. After deriving the dose rate calculation formula for the direct shielded door, this formula was substituted for the lead shielding thickness calculation formula to derive the shielding thickness calculation formula at the door. The lead shielding thickness calculated from the derived direct shielded door shielding thickness calculation formula was about 6% lower than that calculated by the NCRP and IAEA secondary barrier shielding thickness calculation methods. This result is interpreted as meaning that the thickness calculation is more conservative from the NCRP and IAEA secondary barrier shielding thickness calculation methods and fits well for secondary beam shielding. In conclusion, it is thought that the formula for calculating lead shielding thickness of the direct shielded door derived in this study can be usefully used in the shield design of the door.

  • This paper presents a new eigenvalue calculation methods in AESOPS algorithm. The source program of the AESOPS algorithm is modified to practice in PC environment. Window95 is used as an operating system of PC and MicroSoft Power Station is used to compile the fortran source program. The heuristically approximated eigenvalue calculation method of the AESOPS algorithm is transformed to the Newton Raphson Method which is largely used in the nonlinear numerical analysis. The new methods are developed from the AESOPS algorithm and thus only a few calculation steps are added to practice the proposed algorithm.

  • In this paper, a new multi-group neutron-gamma transport calculation code system STRAUM-MATXST for complicated geometrical problems is introduced and its development status including numerical tests is presented. In this code system, the MATXST (MATXS-based Cross Section Processor for SN Transport) code generates multi-group neutron and gamma cross sections by processing MATXS format libraries generated using NJOY and the STRAUM (SN Transport for Radiation Analysis with Unstructured Meshes) code performs multi-group neutron-gamma coupled transport calculation using tetrahedral meshes. In particular, this work presents the recent implementation and its test results of the Krylov subspace methods (i.e., Bi-CGSTAB and GMRES(m)) with preconditioners using DSA (Diffusion Synthetic Acceleration) and TSA (Transport Synthetic Acceleration). In addition, the Krylov subspace methods for accelerating the energy-group coupling iteration through thermal up-scatterings are implemented with new multi-group block DSA and TSA preconditioners in STRAUM.
