  • As the hysteretic behavior of reinforced concrete members under cyclic loading progresses, the energy dissipation ability decreases due to a decrease in stiffness and strength and pinching effects. However, the guideline "Nonlinear Analysis Model for Performance-Based Seismic Design of Reinforced Concrete Building Structures, 2021" requires calculating a single energy dissipation factor for each member and all histeric step, so the decrease in energy dissipation capacity according to histeric step cannot be considered. It is judged that Therefore, in this study, the energy dissipation factor according to the histeric step was examined by comparing the existing experimental results and the nonlinear time history analysis results for a general beam under cyclic loading. The energy dissipation factor was calculated as the ratio of the energy dissipation amount of the actual specimen to the energy dissipation amount of the idealized elastoplastic behavior obtained as a result of nonlinear time history analysis. In the existing experiment results, the energy dissipation factor was derived by calculating one cycle for each histeric step, and the energy dissipation factor was derived based on the nonlinear modeling process in the guidelines. In the existing experimental study, the energy dissipation factor was calculated by setting each histeric step (Y-L-R), and the energy dissipation factor was found to be 0.36 in the Y-L step and 0.28 in the L-R step, and the energy dissipation factor in the guideline was found to be 0.31. This shows that the energy dissipation factor calculation formula in the guidelines does not indicate a decrease in the energy dissipation capacity of reinforced concrete members.

  • The expansion joint is installed to offset the expansion of the superstructure and must ensure sufficient gap during its service life. In detailed guideline of safety inspection and precise safety diagnosis for bridge, damage due to lack or excessive gap is specified, but there are insufficient standards for determining the abnormal behavior of superstructures. In this study, a data-based maintenance was proposed by continuously monitoring the expansion-gap data of the same expansion joint. A total of 2,756 data were collected from 689 expansion joint, taking into account the effects of season. We have developed a method to evaluate changes in the expansion joint-gap that can analyze the thermal movement through four or more data at the same location, and classified the factors that affect the superstructure behavior and analyze the influence of each factor through deep learning and explainable artificial intelligence(AI). Abnormal behavior of the superstructure was classified into narrowing and functional failure through the expansion joint-gap evaluation graph. The influence factor analysis using deep learning and explainable AI is considered to be reliable because the results can be explained by the existing expansion gap calculation formula and bridge design.

  • To evaluate the safety status of deteriorated segments in a submarine shield tunnel during its service life, a seepage model was established based on a cross-sea shield tunnel project. This model was used to study the migration patterns of erosive ions within the shield segments. Based on these laws, the degree of deterioration of the segments was determined. Using the derived analytical solution, the internal forces within the segments were calculated. Lastly, by applying the formula for calculating safety factors, the variation trends in the safety factors of segments with different degrees of deterioration were obtained. The findings demonstrate that corrosive seawater presents the evolution characteristics of continuous seepage from the outside to the inside of the tunnel. The nearby seepage field shows locally concentrated characteristics when there is leakage at the joint, which causes the seepage field's depth and scope to significantly increase. The chlorine ion content decreases gradually with the increase of the distance from the outer surface of the tunnel. The penetration of erosion ions in the segment is facilitated by the presence of water pressure. The ion content of the entire ring segment lining structure is related in the following order: vault < haunch < springing. The difference in the segment's rate of increase in chlorine ion content decreases as service time increases. Based on the analytical solution calculation, the segment's safety factor drops more when the joint leaks than when its intact, and the change rate between the two states exhibits a general downward trend. The safety factor shows a similar change rule at different water depths and continuously decreases at the same segment position as the water depth increases. The three phases of "sudden drop-rise-stability" are represented by a "spoon-shaped" change rule on the safety factor's change curve. The issue of the poor applicability of indicators in earlier studies is resolved by the analytical solution, which only requires determining the loss degree of the segment lining's effective bearing thickness to calculate the safety factor of any cross-section of the shield tunnel. The analytical solution's computation results, however, have some safety margins and are cautious. The process of establishing the evaluation model indicates that the secondary lining made of molded concrete can also have its safety status assessed using the analytical solution. It is very important for the safe operation of the tunnel and the safety of people's property and has a wide range of applications.

  • The Generalized Hoek-Brown (GHB) criterion is a nonlinear failure criterion specialized for rock engineering applications and has recently seen increased usage. However, the GHB criterion expresses the relationship between minimum and maximum principal stresses at failure, and when GSI≠100, it has disadvantage of being difficult to express as an explicit relationship between the normal and shear stresses acting on the failure plane, i.e., as a Mohr failure envelope. This disadvantage makes it challenging to apply the GHB criterion in numerical analysis techniques such as limit equilibrium analysis, upper-bound limit analysis, and the critical plane approach. Consequently, recent studies have attempted to express the GHB Mohr failure envelope as an approximate analytical formula, and there is still a need for continued interest in related research. This study presents improved formulations for the approximate GHB Mohr failure envelope, offering higher accuracy in predicting shear strength compared to existing formulas. The improved formulation process employs a method to enhance the approximation accuracy of the tangential friction angle and utilizes the tangent line equation of the nonlinear GHB failure envelope to improve the accuracy of shear strength approximation. In the latter part of this paper, the advantages and limitations of the proposed approximate GHB failure envelopes in terms of shear strength prediction accuracy and calculation time are discussed.

  • The demand for high strength and ultra-lightweight materials to incorporate the advanced technology of nanomaterials into the lengthening of structures is continuously increasing. Therefore, based on existing research results and numerous mixing trials, we derived a mix of high strength and ultra-light concrete of a compressive strength of 100 MPa with a unit weight of 18 kN/m3 and a compr essive str ength of 80 MPa with a unit weight of 16 kN/m3 and evaluated their per for mance. In this paper, 108 specimens corresponding to high strength and ultra-lightweight concrete with a compressive strength of 100 MPa under a unit weight of 18 kN/m3, and a compressive strength of 80 MPa under a unit weight of 16 kN/m3 were manufactured, and the bond characteristics were identified by performing a directly tensile tests, and the bond characteristics were evaluated by comparing them with the experimental results and the current design criteria. It was judged that the bond strength calculation formula of ACI-408R and the experimental results were not accurately reflected, so an bond stress equation based on ACI-408R was proposed. The result of the proposed equation was that the deviation was somewhat reduced. In addition, the results of calculating the CEB-FIP model and the modified CMR model using statistical analysis showed slight differences from the experimental results, but considering that the bond behavior is a local behavior, the proposed model appears to explain the bond behavior of high strength and ultra-light concrete as a whole.

  • This work Was carried out to obtain the most suitable crop coefficient for the paddy rice growing in Taegu area. The result was due to the comparative measurements of evapotranspiration formula in terms of Blaney & Criddle and eight other formulas with those produced by experiment particularly in this area. The crop coefficient, evapotranspiration and transpiration ratio produced by this research are hopefully expected to be of service in the future calculation of evapotranspiration without repeating experiment respectively, whenever the water requirement of paddy rice is planned in Taegu and its vicinity. The accomplished results could be summarized as follows : The maximum amount of evapotranspiration was recorded in the early and middle parts of August. The average reading of evapotranspiration was 6.33mm/day throughout the growth. The evapotranspiration had a highly significant correlation with pan evaporation, solar radiation, sunshine hours and relative humidity of meteorological elements. K and Kc by the use of Blaney & Criddle formula calculated at 0.76 to 1.45 and 0.82 to 1.27, respectively. Its peak value appeared commonly in early August. The ratio of transpiration was 269.03.

  • Considering that the number of cases in which a structure foundation is located on weathered rock has been increasing recently, for adequate design bearing capacity of a foundation on weathered rock, allowable bearing capacities of such foundations in geotechnical investigation reports were studied. With reference to the study results, the allowable bearing capacity of a foundation on weathered rock was approximately 400-700 kN/m2, with a large variation, and was considered a conservative value. Because the allowable bearing capacity of the foundation ground is an important index in determining the foundation type in the early design stage, it can have a significant influence on the construction cost and period according to the initial decision. Thus, in this study, six large-scale plate-bearing tests were conducted on weathered rock, and the bearing capacity and settlement characteristics were analyzed. According to the test results, the bearing capacities from the six tests exceeded 1,500 kN/m2, and it shows that the results are similar with the one of bearing capacity formula by Pressuremeter tests when compared with the various bearing capacity formula. In addition, the elastic modulus determined by the inverse calculation of the load-settlement behavior from the large-scale plate-bearing tests was appropriate for applying the elastic modulus of the Pressuremeter tests. With consideration of the large-scale plate-bearing tests in this study and other results of plate-bearing tests on weathered rock in Korea, the allowable bearing capacity of weathered rock is evaluated to be over 1,000 kN/m2. However, because the settlement of the foundation increases as the foundation size increases, the allowable bearing capacity should be restrained by the allowable settlement criteria of an upper structure. Therefore, in this study, the anticipated foundation settlements along the foundation size and the thickness of weathered rocks have been evaluated by numerical analysis, and the foundation size and ground conditions, with an allowable bearing capacity of over 1,000 kN/m2, have been proposed as a table. These findings are considered useful in determining the foundation type in the early foundation design.

  • Ho-l66 was produced by neutron reaction in a reactor at the Korea Atomic Energy Institute (Taejon, Korea). Ho-l66 emits a high energy beta particles with a maximum energy of 1.85 MeV and small proportion of gamma rays (80 keV). Therefore, the radiation absorbed dose estimation could be based on the in-vivo quantification of the activity in tumors from the gamma camera images. Approximately 1 mCi of Ho-l66 in solution was mixed into the flood phantom and planar scintigraphic images were acquired with and without patient interposed between the phantom and scintillation camera. Transmission factor over an area of interest was calculated from the ratio of counts in selected regions of the two images described above. A dual-head gamma camera(Multispect2, Siemens, Hoffman Estates, IL, USA) equipped with medium energy collimators was utilized for imaging(80 keV${\pm}$10%). Fifty-nine year old female patient with hepatoma was enrolled into the therapeutic protocol after the informed consent obtained. Thirty millicuries(110MBq) of Ho-166-CHICO was injected into the right hepatic arterial branch supplying hepatoma. When the injection was completed, anterior and posterior scintigraphic views of the chest and pelvic regions were obtained for 3 successive days. Regions of interest (ROIs) were drawn over the organs in both the anterior and posterior views. The activity in those ROIs was estimated from geometric mean, calibration factor and transmission factors. Absorbed dose was calculated using the Marinelli formula and Medical Internal Radiation Dose (MIRD) schema. Tumor dose of the patient treated with 1110 MBq(30 mCi) Ho-l66 was calculated to be 179.7 Gy. Dose distribution to normal liver, spleen, lung and bone was 9.1, 10.3, 3.9, 5.0 % of the tumor dose respectively. In conclusion, tumor dose and absorbed dose to surrounding structures were calculated by daily external imaging after the Ho-l66 therapy for hepatoma. In order to limit the thresholding dose to each surrounding organ, absorbed dose calculation provides useful information.

  • Harmful Algal Bloom Alert System (HABAS) for drinking water supply is require to fast and accurate count as system monitoring of cyanobacterium occurrence and inducing a response action. We measured correlation between colony size and cell number including genus Anabaena, Aphanizomenon, Microcystis, Oscillatoria which are targeted at HABAS, deducted from standard formula, and suggested calculation method from colony size to the number of cell. We collected cyanobacteria samples at Han River (Paldang reservoir), Nakdong River (Dalseong weir, Changnyeonghaman weir) and Geum River (Gobok reservoir) from August to October, 2013. Also, we studied correlation between colony size and cell number, and calculated regression equation. As a result of correlation of harmful cyanobacteria by genus, Anabaena spp. and Aphanizomenon spp. having trichome showed high correlation coefficients more than 0.93 and Microcystis spp. having colony showed correlation coefficient of 0.76. As a result of correlation of harmful cyanobacteria by species, Anabaena crassa, Aphanizomenon flos-aquae, A. issatschenkoi, Oscillatoria curviceps, O. mougeotii having trichome showed high correlation coefficients from 0.89 to 0.96, and Microcystis aeruginosa, M. wessenbergii, M. viridis having colony showed correlation coefficients from 0.76 to 0.88. Compared with other genus Microcystis relatively showed low correlation because even species and colony size are the same, cell density and cell size are different from Microcystis strains. In this study, using calculated regression might be fast and simple method of cell counting. From now on, we need to secure additional samples, and make a decision to study about other species.
