Effects of Combined Cognitive and Physical Exercise Program on Cognitive and Physical Functions in Older Adults with Mild Cognitive Impairment

  • Objective: This study aimed to investigate the impact of a 12-week combined cognitive and physical exercise program on cognitive and physical functions in older adults diagnosed with mild cognitive impairment (MCI). Design: A one-group pretest-posttest study. Methods: Twelve participants with MCI engaged in a weekly 60-minute session of combined cognitive and physical exercise program. Cognitive function was assessed using the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA), while physical function was evaluated through measures of muscle strength, postural balance, and walking capabilities. Muscle strength assessments included the arm curl test, handgrip strength, and the 5 sit-to-stand test. Postural balance was evaluated using the one-leg stance test, timed up-and-go test, functional reach test, and four square step test. Walking function was analyzed through a gait analysis device. Pre- and post-intervention measurements were compared to determine the effects of the exercise program. Results: The results demonstrated significant improvements in MoCA, arm curl test, timed up-and-go test, walking speed, and cadence following the 12-week intervention (p<0.05). MoCA scores revealed enhanced cognitive performance, while measures of muscle strength, including the arm curl test, exhibited significant changes. Improvements in timed up-and-go test scores indicated enhanced mobility, accompanied by increased walking speed and cadence, as evidenced by gait analysis. Conclusions: This study suggests that a structured 12-week program incorporating both cognitive and physical exercises can lead to meaningful improvements in cognitive and physical functions among older adults with MCI.

  • Gait is a highly complex activity in which many variables can be observed and measured. Walking is a repetitious sequence of limb to move the body and to maintain stability. Normal gait is rhythmic and characterized by alternating propulsive and retropulsive motions of the lower extremities. Pathological gait patterns have four functional categories (deformity, muscle weakness, impaired control, pain). The purpose of this study was to assess the quantitive gait variables(the width of the base, length of a step, stride length, cadence, velocity) in patients with low back pain. Patients walked more slowly, took shorter steps and did not show the symmetrical gait patterns.

  • The purpose of this study was to describe and compare kinematic gait variables during 3 different(0.5, 1, 2m/s) treadmill belt speed. Twenty health subjects participated. The results were following. 1. There are no significant difficult in step phase according to treadmill belt speed. 2. There are significant difficult in stride length, cadence and foot rotation according to treadmill belt speed. 3. There are significant difficult in hip flex/ext, knee flexion and ankle dorsiflexion according to treadmill belt speed.

A Comparison of Gait Patterns in Young Asian and Caucasian Women (젊은 아시아인과 코카시아 여성의 보행 패턴 비교)

  • 이 연구의 목적은 젊은 아시아인과 코카시아 여성의 보행패턴 중 보폭시간(step time) 과 보폭 (step length)을 비교하고 두 집단의 골반넓이와 보폭과 상관관계가 있는지 알아보는 것이다. 연구대상자는 15명의 아시아인과 15명의 코카시아 여성이었으며 나이는 23세에서 35세 범위에 있었다. 보행분석을 위해서는 GAITRite System을 사용하였으며 분석방법으로는 인종(아시아인대 코카시아인)과 신체부위(좌측, 우측)를 요인으로 하여 반복측정에 의한 분산분석을 하였다. 아시아인 여성보다 코카시아인 여성의 보폭, 다리길이, 골반 넓이가 통계학적으로 유의하게 높았고 왼쪽 다리의 걸음과 오른쪽 다리의 걸음에 있어서는 통계학적으로 유의한 차이가 없었다. 그리고 보폭시간, 속도, 걸음수(cadence)에 있어서도 두 여성 인종간에 통계학적으로 유의한 차이가 없었다. 이러한 결과는 보행변수 중에서 걸음수나 속도와 같은 시간변수에 았어서는 아시아인 여성과 코카시아인 여성간에 차이가 없음을 의미한다.

KMTNet Supernova Project : The Initial Status

  • We are at the initial performance-verification phase of our KMTNet Supernova Project (KSP) using the three wide-field telescopes of the KMTNet in the southern hemisphere. The primary science objectives of KSP, which take advantage of its unique 24-hour continuous sky coverage, are to study early (i.e., within a few hours from explosion) and rare/peculiar (e.g. fast decay) supernovae (SNe), SN progenitors, explosion mechanisms, as well as other exotic optical transients. We present the initial status/results of the program, along with the program strategy, science objectives, target fields, and future plan. While the target field selection will be made based on the performance of the system and consideration of various scientific merits, the initial target fields are focused on nearby galaxies with increased cadence and filter coverage.

  • In this paper, the ADI (Adaptive De-interlacing) algorithm is proposed, which improves visually and subjectively horizontal and vertical edges of the image processed by the ELA(Edge Line-based Average) method. This paper also proposes a VLSI architecture for the proposed algorithm and designed the architecture through the full custom CMOS layout process. The proposed algorithm is verified using C and Matlab and implemented using 0.6$\mu\textrm{m}$ 2-poly 3-metal CMOS standard libraries. For the circuit and logic simulation, Cadence tool is used.

  • According to miniaturization trend of rehabilitation medical equipment such as hearing aid, study to replace previous complex system with semiconductor SOC (System-on-Chip) chip becomes lively. In this study, after investigating of existent hearing aid performance in circuit design approach, low electric power consuming, single power supply (1.4V battery) CMOSS OP AMP was designed. Analog circuit design tools such as Hspice and Cadence were used for circuit simulation and implementing layout design. This study shows technical methods particularly for layout design. The work is done in pmos and nmos active element layout design in addition to passive element design such as resister, capacitor and inductor.

  • 최근 PC의 성능이 향상되면서, 고성능의 전원공급 장치가 요구되고 있다. 특히 CPU에 대전력을 공급하는 싱크로너스 벅 컨버터는 파워 MOSFET을 구동하기 위해 별도의 구동 IC가 필요하다. 본 논문은 adaptive 지연을 이용하여 파워 MOSFET을 구동하는 싱크로너스 벅 구동 IC를 설계하였다. 고정밀도의 밴드캡 기준회로와 비교기를 이용하여 30 ns의 adaptive 지연을 생성하며, 전력소모를 줄이기 위해 저전압에서 동작하는 UVLO(under voltage lock out)를 설계하였다. 또한 상단 파워 MOSFET을 구동하기 위하여 부트스트랩 방식을 이용하며, 부트스트랩 다이오드를 IC 내부에 내장하여 컨버터의 설계비용을 줄였다. 설계한 구동 IC의 동작 전압 범위는 8 V - 15 V이며, 출력 전류는 최대 2A이다. 싱크로너스 벅 구동 IC는 $0.5\;{\mu}m$ BiCMOS(Bipolar-CMOS) 공정 파라미터를 사용하여 설계되었으며, 시뮬레이션은 Cadence사의 Spectre를 이용하였다.

  • 본 논문에서는 시공간 3차원 잡음 제거기의 ASIC 설계 및 구현결과를 소개한다. 구현된 잡음 제거기는 휘도와 색차신호에 대한 잡음제거 필터들로 구성된다. 휘도에 적용한 필터는 A-MEAN 필터와 A-LMMSE 필터를 결합한 형태의 필터를 시공간적으로 연결한 필터로써, 특히 시간방향으로 IIR 필터 형태를 갖도록 설계하여 평탄한 영상영역에서 보다 강한 잡음 제거 효과를 갖도록 하였다. 한편, 색차신호에 대해서는 5탭 길이를 갖는 1차원 A-MEAN 필터를 적용하였다. C-언어를 이용한 시뮬레이션을 통해 설계된 잡음 제거기의 성능을 평가하였고, VHDL과 C-언어에 의한 시뮬레이션 결과를 비교하여 VHDL-코드의 검증을 수행했다. 구현과정은 시뮬레이션과 논리합성 등 전반부 설계를 Synopsys 툴을 이용하여 수행했고, 레이아웃 등 후반부 설계를 Cadence 툴과 Apollo 툴을 이용하여 수행했다.

Properties of microlensing events of wide-separation planets with a moon

  • Thanks to high cadence monitoring and high photometric accuracy of Korea Microlensing Telescope Network (KMTNet), we expect the detection of many events caused by wide-separation planets and free-floating planets, which is not easy due to the short event duration. Thus, it is important to understand wide-separation planetary lensing events. Several studies on the wide-separation events have been reported, but events caused by wide-separation planetary systems with a moon have not yet been studied. In this paper, we study the properties of events caused by planetary systems where wide-separation planets host a moon. We also study the effect of a finite background source star on the moon feature in the wide planetary-lensing events.
