  • Electromagnetic measurements of the power cable tunnel were conducted from August 10 to 20, 2018, in the ${\bigcirc}{\bigcirc}$ city underground utility tunnel. During this period, the average temperature was $31.89^{\circ}C$ and the humidity was 67.56% in power cable tunnel. As a result of the electromagnetic measurement, the highest electric field was 25.3 V/m and the magnetic flux density was $42.6{\mu}T$. The average electric field was 18.56 V/m and the magnetic flux density was $29.32{\mu}T$ in the power cable tunnel. As a result of comparison with the electric equipment technical standard, the electric field in the power cable tunnel was 0.5% of the electric equipment standard and 35.2% of the magnetic flux density. It's similar value that electric field is about robotic vacuum(15.53 V/m), and magnetic flux density is similar value about capsule- type coffee machine ($23.07{\mu}T$). The number of cable lines and the size of the electromagnetic waves were not proportional to each other through comparison of cable lines in the power cable tunnel. It was confirmed that 154 kV, rather than 22.9 kV, could have a greater influence on occupational.

  • In this paper, numerical method was calculated on evaluation of underground ventilation system to keep servicing a fresh air. The tunnel length for simulation is 18.2 km with various located seven ventilation shaft. Generally, owing to thermal generation in cable tunnel under about 50 m depths, cable tunnel ventilation system is more important than that of other tunnels. So, we conducted that the effects of ventilation systems was simulated depending on the difference of electrical power tunnel length, the number of shaft tunnel, forced ventilation and duct was or not. Test results show that the main conditions in order to enhance the underground cable tunnel are that ventilation systems have to be designed with forced ventilation and with duct.

  • Flexible stay cables on cable-stayed bridges are three-dimensional. They sag and flex in the complex wind environment, which is a different situation to ideal rigid cylinders in two-dimensional wind flow. Aerodynamic interference and the response characteristics of wake galloping of full-scale parallel cables are potentially different due to three-dimensional flows around cables. This study presents a comprehensive wind tunnel investigation of wake galloping of parallel stay cables using three-dimensional aeroelastic cable models. The wind tunnel study focuses on the large spacing instability range, addressing the effects of cable separation, wind yaw angle, and wind angle of attack on wake galloping response. To investigate the effectiveness of vibration suppression measures, wind tunnel studies on the transversely connected cable systems for two types of connections (flexibility and rigidity) at two positions (mid-span and quarter-span) were also conducted. This experimental study provides useful insights for better understanding the characteristics of wake galloping that will help in establishing a guideline for the wind-resistant design of the cable system on cable-stayed bridges.

  • With increasing needs in power, Singapore is requiring stronger power transmission. Singapore Transmission Cable Tunnel is underground tunnel for transmission system installation such as 400 kV cable. This Transmission Cable Tunnel is 35 km long in total. The North-South Transmission Cable Tunnel is 18.5 km long and there is a total of three (3) contracts; NS1, NS2 and NS3 in respect of the design and construction. The East-West Transmission Cable Tunnel is 16.5 km long, and also there is a total of three (3) contracts; EW1, EW2 and EW3. Among of them, SK E&C has been awarded and operating contract EW2 and NS2. In scope of works, each contract has 3 to 4 shafts which connect aboveground and underground high volt cable and those shafts are used as TBM launching shafts during construction. Transmission Cable Tunnel is undercrossing middle of Singapore and most of shafts are located in urban area. Thus, optimal blasting design satisfying high blasting efficiency as well as blasting vibration limit of Singapore is highly required. Blasting design for large shaft of Singapore Transmission Cable Tunnel follows blasting vibration limits in Singapore and reflects our blasting engineering skills. With Singapore Transmission Cable Tunnel Contract EW2, it is expected that our excellent blasting engineering and performance skills can be delivered to the world.

  • In this study, we deployed the cable tunnel inspection and monitoring system by wireless sensor network. It is shown that the wireless sensor network which is composed of sensor, wireless communication module, and gateway can be applied to cable tunnel monitoring system. Sensors considered herein are flame detection sensor, flood detection sensor, intruder detection sensor, and temperature sensor, etc. It is also found that the wireless sensor network can deliver sensing data reliably by wireless sensing technology. The gateway system that can transmit sensed data to server by CDMA is developed. Monitoring system is constructed by web service technology, and it is observed that this system can monitor the present state of tunnel without difficulties. The system provides an alternative to inspect and monitor the tunnel efficiently where the conventional wired system is infeasible.

  • This paper presents the results of 3-D analysis on steady state flow in the region where the leakage in a cable tunnel is occurred due to high excess ground water pressure. In numerical modeling, a relief well is selected as a method of reduction in water pressure at the surrounding region of the cable tunnel. The distribution of ground water level after dewatering by relief wells is analyzed, Results show that the amount of dewatering level in the layer of hard rock is about 4.2∼8.6m, and that in the layer of fracture zone is about 5.8∼8.2m. The predicted settlement at the cable tunnel due to the increase of effective stress by dewatering is 0.3mm.

  • Because suicide accidents sometimes were happened in grand bridges over rivers or sea water recently, it will be necessary that prevention measures be made preparation in advance from now on. Additional safety facilities must be needed in addition to existing safety facilities in such a way as this prevention measure. In order to make cable-stayed bridge safe on wind for additional safety facilities, main girder models with added safety facilities for wind-tunnel tests was made, and wind tunnel experiments was carried out to measure aerodynamic force coefficients. Also, wind-resistant analyses of 3D cable-stayed bridge were performed on the basis of wind-tunnel test results. From the wind experiments, force coefficients of main girder with added safety facilities were assessed, and it is known that there are little possibility of galloping and rotation of steel main girder. Finally, from the wind resistant analyses, it was concluded that wind-resistant safety of cable-stayed bridge was secured on wind speed 60.6m/sec.

  • Lamps installed on stay cables of cable-stayed bridges may alter the configuration of circular cross section of the cables and therefore result in aerodynamically unstable cable vibrations. The background of this study is a preliminary design of lamp installation on the cable-stayed He-dong Bridge in Guangzhou, China. Force measurements and dynamic response measurements wind tunnel tests were carried out to validate the possibility of cable galloping vibrations. It is observed that galloping will occur and the critical wind velocity is far less than the design wind velocity at Guangzhou City stipulated in Chinese Code. Numerical simulations utilizing software ANSYS CFX were subsequently performed and almost the same results as the wind tunnel tests were obtained. Moreover, the pressure and velocity contours around cable-lamp model obtained from numerical simulations indicated that the upstream steel wire in the preliminary design is the key factor for the onset of the galloping vibrations. A modification for the preliminary design of lamp installation, which suggests to remove the two parallel steel wires, is proposed, and it effectiveness is validated in further wind tunnel tests.
