Preparation of Fe-AC/$TiO_2$ composites and pH dependence of their Photocatalytic activity for methylene blue

  • In this study, activated carbon (AC) was treated with ferric ion by a sol-gel method. The compound (Fe-AC) was employed for the preparation of Fe-activated carbon/$TiO_2$, (Fe-AC/$TiO_2$) composites. The prepared Fe-AC/$TiO_2$ composites were characterized with surface properties, structural crystallinity, elemental identification and photocatalytic activity. The SEM results showed that ferric compounds and titanium dioxide were fixed onto the AC surfaces. The XRD results showed that Fe-AC/$TiO_2$ composites mostly contained anatase phase. EDX showed the presence of C, O, and Ti with Fe peaks in all samples. Its photocatalytic degradation effect was evaluated with the degradation behavior of the methylene blue (MB) solution. MB degradation could be attributed to the synergetic effects of adsorption, photo-degradation of $TiO_2$ and photo-Fenton of Fe component. The degradation rate for this photocatalysis was evaluated as a function of the concentration of the dye, the amount of $TiO_2$ and the pH. Photocataytic activity is good at activity pH.

Relationship Between Annealing Temperature and Structural Properties of BaTiO3 Thin Films Grown on p-Si Substrates (p-Si 기판에 성장한 BaTiO3 박막의 어닐링온도와 구조적 특성과의 관계)

  • In this study, $BaTiO_3$ thin films were grown by RF-magnetron sputtering, and the effects of a post-annealing process on the structural characteristics of the $BaTiO_3$ thin films were investigated. For the crystallization of the grown thin films, post-annealing was carried out in air at an annealing temperature that varied from $500-1000^{\circ}C$. XRD results showed that the highest crystal quality was obtained from the samples annealed at $600-700^{\circ}C$. From the SEM analysis, no crystal grains were observed after annealing at temperatures ranging from 500 to $600^{\circ}C$; and 80 nm grains were obtained at $700^{\circ}C$. The surface roughness of the $BaTiO_3$ thin films from AFM measurements and the crystal quality from Raman analysis also showed that the optimum annealing temperature was $700^{\circ}C$. XPS results demonstrated that the binding energy of each element of the thin-film-type $BaTiO_3$ in this study shifted with the annealing temperature. Additionally, a Ti-rich phenomenon was observed for samples annealed at $1000^{\circ}C$. Depth-profiling analysis through a GDS (glow discharge spectrometer) showed that a stoichiometric composition could be obtained when the annealing temperature was in the range of 500 to $700^{\circ}C$. All of the results obtained in this study clearly demonstrate that an annealing temperature of $700^{\circ}C$ results in optimal structural properties of $BaTiO_3$ thin films in terms of their crystal quality, surface roughness, and composition.

The Structure Determination of La2/3-xLi3x1/3-2xTiO3 by the Powder Neutron and X-ray Diffraction

  • La/sub 2/3-x/Li/sub 3x/□/sub 1/3-2x/TiO₃ compounds with x=0.13 and 0.12 were prepared by slow cooling (x=0.13) and rapid quenching (x=0.12) into the liquid nitrogen after sintering at 1350℃ for 6 h. Their crystal structure has been determined by Rietveld refinement of both the powder neutron and X-ray diffraction data. From neutron diffraction data, we found that the main phase was not tetragonal (P4/mmm), but trigonal (R3cH). The refinement of neutron diffraction for the slow cooled samples were in a good agreement with a new model; a mixture of trigonal (R3cH, 45.7 wt%), tetragonal (p4/mmm, 37.0 wt%), and Li/sub 0.57/Ti/sub 0.86/O₂(pbnm, 17.2 wt%), but the quenched sample was found not to contain tetragonal (p4/mmm). X-ray diffraction data couldn't be well fitted because of the Poor scattering factor of lithium ions and the similar reflection patterns among trigonal (R3cH), tetragonal (p4/mmm), and cubic (Pm3m). We also knew that one transport bottlenecks is destroyed by one La vacancy in the case of trigonal (R3cH).

Synthesis of BaTiO3 Thin Film on Ti Electrode by the Current Pulse Waveform (펄스전류파형을 이용한 Ti 전극위에서 BaTiO3박막의 합성)

  • $BaTiO_3$ thin film was electrochemically deposited on Ti electrode in a 0.4 M $Ba(OH)_2$ solution of $85^{\circ}C$ using a current pulse waveform. Both $BaTiO_3$ crystallinity and faradaic efficiency for the film formation were enhanced with the increase of cathodic current density and pulse time. Based on the surface analysis and electrochemical studies, it was suggested that, during cathodic pulsed, the surface pH increase due to the reduction of $H_2O$ accelerates the structural changes of Ti oxides which were formed during anodic cycle. Prior to experiments, Ti oxides were intentionally grown in 0.1 M $H_2SO_4$ solution and the effect of initial oxide film thickness on the $BaTiO_3$ film formation was investigated. The migration of $Ti^{+4}$ ions through the oxide film was retarded with the increase of film thickness and it was observed that the crystallization of $BaTiO_3$ was only limited to the defect area of surface oxides.

  • The electrical properties of (S $r_{0.50}$P $b_{0.25}$B $a_{0.25}$)Ti $O_{3}$ ceramics were studied. Specimens were prepared by the conventional mixed oxide method, and fired between 1300[.deg. C] - 1375[.deg. C], for 2[hr.]. The electrical and structural preperties of specimens were investigated with sintering temperature. Increasing the sintering temperature from 1300[.deg. C] to 1375[.deg. C], average grain size was increased from 2.61[.mu.m] to 4.53[.mu.m]. (S $r_{0.50}$P $b_{0.25}$B $a_{0.25}$)Ti $O_{3}$ specimen sintered at 1350[.deg. C] for two hours showed good dielectric constant(2147) and dielectric loss(1.7[%]) properties at 1[khz]. Sintered density and breakdown field strength were the highest value of 5.75[g/c $m^{3}$], 20[kV/cm], respectively. Dielectric properties with applied voltage were independent of the sintering temperature.temperature.

  • To obtain a single phase of Ba2Ti9O20 at lower temperature than previious other researches. We investigated the effect of Zr substitution for predetermined portions of Ti in Ba2Ti9O20. In this study, the four compounds(x=0, 0.028, 0.048, 0.068) of Ba2(Ti1-xZrx)9O20 were prepared by coprecipitation reaction of BaCl2, TiCl4 and ZrOCl2 with (NH4)2CO3 and NH4OH as the coprecipitating agents and pH regulators, in queous solution. Owing to 4.8 mol% addition, the single phase of Ba2Ti9O20 showing high Q was obtained at 115$0^{\circ}C$ which is lower by 25$0^{\circ}C$ than the temperature in case of mechanical mixtures of BaCO3 and TiO2.

Synthesis of Titanium Dioxides by Microemulsion Method and Their Photocatalytic Degradation of p-Nitrophenol (마이크로에멀젼법에 의한 이산화티탄의 합성 및 p-Nitrophenol의 광촉매 분해반응)

  • Titania nanoparticles were prepared by controlled hydrolysis of titanium tetraisopropoxide (TTIP) in water-in-oil (W/O) and microemulsion stabilized with a nonionic surfactant, N P-10 (Polyoxyethylene Nonylphenol Ether: $C_9H_{19}C_6H_4(OCH_2CH_2)_{10}OH$)). The nanosized particles prepared in W/O microemulsion were characterized by FT-IR, TEM, XRD, TGA, and DTA. In addition, the photocatalytic degradation of p-nitrophenol has been studied by using a batch reactor in the presence of UV light in order to compare the photocatalytic activity of prepared nanosized titania. The nanaosized titania particles calcined at $300{\sim}600^{\circ}C$ showed an anatase structure, but it transformed to a rutile phase above $700^{\circ}C$ of calacination temperature. With an increase of $W_o$ ratio, the crystallite size increased but photocalytic activity decreased. The titania synthesized at $W_o=5$, R = 2, and calcined at $400{\sim}500^{\circ}C$ showed the highest activity on the photocatalytic degradation of p-nitrophenol.

The PTCR Effect of Semiconducting Zn-Ti-Ni-O Ceramics (Zn-Ti-Ni-O 반도성 세라믹스의 PTCR 현상)

  • Semiconducting Zn-Ti-Ni-O and Zn-Ti-O system were investigated. The specimens sintered at the temperature between 125$0^{\circ}C$ and 145$0^{\circ}C$ exhibited PTCR effect between -5$0^{\circ}C$ and 35$0^{\circ}C$ with resistivity ration exceeding three decades. Semiconducting Zn-Ti-Ni-O is consisted of two phases, one is n-type ZnO and the other is p-type spinel structure. The mechanism of PTCR effect was explained in relation to the piezoelectric property of ZnO and the residual stress caused by thermal expansion difference between two phases during cooling process.

펄스 레이저 방식으로 증착된 $MgTiO_3$ 박막의 전기적 특성 분석

  • 본 연구에서는 차세대 마이크로파 유전체 소자로서의 응용을 목적으로 펄스 레이저 방식에 의하여 증착된 MgTiO3 박막의 전기적 특성을 종합적으로 연구 분석하였다. 이를 바탕으로 MgTiO3 박막의 유전손실 등과 같은 열화를 야기시키는 박막 내부 또는 박막과 기판간의 결함의 특성을 파악하여 열화 메카니즘을 분석하였다. MgTiO3는 마이크로파 영역에서의 우수한 유전특성과 같은 낮은 유전손실을 가지며, 온도 안정성 또한 우수하다. 현재까지 벌크 세라믹 MgTiO3 의 응용 광범위하게 연구되어 왔으나 박막의 제조공정 및 전기적 특성 분석은 미흡한 형편이다. 따라서 벌크 세라믹과는 특성이 상이한 박막의 전기적 특성분석 및 연구가 필요하다. 분석을 위한 소자의 기본 구조로서 Metal-Insulator-Semiconductor(MIS) 구조를 채택하였다. MgTiO3 박막을 증착하기 위한 기판으로는 n형 Si(100)기판과 p형 Si(100)기판을 사용하였고, Si 기판 위에 급속 열처리기 (RTP)를 이용하여 SiO2를 ~100 두께로 성장시킨 것과 성장시키지 않은 것으로 구분하여 제작하였다. MgTiO3 박막은 펄스 레이저 증착 방식(PLD)에 의하여 약 2500 두께로 증착되었으며, 200mTorr 압력의 산소 분위기 하에서 기판의 온도를 40$0^{\circ}C$~55$0^{\circ}C$까지 5$0^{\circ}C$간격으로 변화시키며 제작하였다. 상하부의 전극 금속으로는 Al을 이용하였으며, 열증발 증착기로 증착하였다. 증착된 MgTiO3 박막의 결정구조를 확인하기 위하여 XRD 분석을 수행하였으며, 박막의 전기적 특성을 분석하기 위해 Boonton7200 C-V 측정기와 HP4140P를 이용한 경우에는 C-V 곡선에 이력현상이 나타났으나, MgTiO3/SiO2를 이용한 경우에는 이력현상이 나타나지 않았고, 유전율은 감소하는 것으로 나타났다. I-V 측정 결과, 절연층으로 MgTiO3/SiO2를 이용한 경우에는 MgTiO3만을 절연층으로 사용한 경우에 비해 동일한 전계에서 낮은 누설전류 값을 가짐을 알 수 있었다. 또한 박막의 증착온도가 증가함에 따라서 C-V 곡선의 위치가 양의 방향으로 이동함을 확인하였다. 위의 현상은 기판의 종류에 관계없이 발생하는 것으로 보아 벌크 또는 계면에 존재하는 결함에 의한 것으로 추정된다. 현재 C-V 곡선의 이동 원인과 I-V 곡선의 누설전류 메카니즘을 분석 중에 있으며 그 결과를 학회에서 발표할 예정이다.

Annealing under low oxygen partial pressure for crystal growth of BaTiO$_3 $thin films prepared by coating-pyrolysis process (코딩-열분해법에 의해 제조한 BaTiO$_3 $ 박막의 결정 성장을 위한 낮은 산소 분압에서의 열처리)

  • $BaTIO_3$ thin films were prepared on (100) $BaTIO_3$ substrates by coating- pyrolysis process using metal-organic compounds of Ba and Ti. The amorphous films prefired at $450^{\circ}C$were crystallized above $700^{\circ}C$ under oxygen partial pressure of $2\times 10^{-4}$. The lattice parameters of the perpendicular axis for the $BaTIO_3$ thin films heat-treated below $800^{\circ}C$ were closer to a value of cubic $BaTIO_3$, whereas those above $800^{\circ}C$ were closer to a value of tetragonal BaTiG. The results of XRD P scan and pole-figure analyses indicated that BaTiO, thin films have an epitaxial relationship with the $SrTiO_3$ substrates. The $BaTIO_3$thin films annealed at$800^{\circ}C$ showed the surface with island-like grains about 0.4$mu \textrm{m}$ and the cross section of 0.8 $mu \textrm{m}$ thickness with granular grains.
