This study focused on the prediction of the long-term performance of carbon fiber/epoxy composites using Dynamic Mechanical Analysis (DMA) and Time-Temperature Superposition (TTS). Single-frequency test, multi-frequency test, and creep TTS test were performed. A sinusoidal load of $20{\mu}m$ amplitude was applied while increasing the temperature from $-30^{\circ}C$ to $240^{\circ}C$ at $2^{\circ}C/min$ for the single-frequency test and the multi-frequency test. The frequencies applied to the multi-frequency test were 0.316, 1, 3.16, 10 and 31.6 Hz. In the creep TTS test, a stress of 15 MPa was applied for 10 minutes at every $10^{\circ}C$ from $-30^{\circ}C$ to $230^{\circ}C$. The glass transition temperature was determined by single-frequency test. The activation energy and the storage modulus curve for each temperature were obtained from glass transition temperature for each frequency by the multi-frequency test. The master curve for the reference temperature was obtained by applying the shift factor using the Arrhenius equation. Also, TTS test was used to obtain the creep compliance curves for each temperature and the master curve for the reference temperature by applying the shift factors using the manual shift technique. The master curve obtained through this process can be applied to predict the long-term performance of carbon fiber/epoxy composites for a given environmental condition.
Hydroxyapatite(HAp) powders were synthesized by wet-precipitation precess using $Ca(NO_3)_2{\cdot}4H_2O$ and $(NH_4)_2HPO_4$ and homogeneous composites of four type were prepared by mixing of synthetic HAp and Polyacrylic Acid(PAA). Ca/P ratio of synthetic HAps was determined using ICP analysis and the thermal property of HAp/PAA composites were investigated by TGA. Good crystalline HAp was obtained at pH 11 and $60{\circ}C$. The ratio of Ca/P in synthetic HAps was quantified in a range of 1.35~1.49, from which Ca-deficient HAp was obtained. The specific surface area of HAp/PAA composite increased with increasing the content of PAA and the weight loss of HAp/PAA composite at $800{\circ}C$ decreased in a range of 3.5~9.6% due to the degradation of PAA binder. From FT-IR analysis of HAp/PAA composite, it was confirmed that the ionic bond between ion of HAp and carboxyl group of PAA was formed.
The dielectric and sintering characteristics of composites made by substituting Ca ion to Ba-site and Zr ion to Ti site in $(Ba{1-x}Ca_x)(Ti{0.96-yZr_ySn_{0.04})O_3$$(0.15{\leq}x{\leq}0.20,\;0.09{\leq}y{\leq}0.14)$ were investigated. As the content of Ca was more than 15 mol%, composite was formed by precipitating the second phase whose main element was $CaTiO_3$ and the fraction of the second phase was increased. The curie temperature of composites was depended on Ca concentration, $-1.7^{\circ}C$ per mol% and the maximum dielectric constant of composite was decreased by the rate of 200/mol%. The substitution of Zr ion decreased the curie temperature by the rate of $10^{\circ}C$ per mol% and the maximum dielectric constant was decreased by 217/mol% due to the increase of diffuse phase transition. The density and insulation breakdown characteristics were improved by suppressing the abnormal grain growth due to the increase of second phase. We developed the composition of Y5U (EIA standard) condenser which had high breakdown voltage and dielectric constant by controlling diffuse phase transition by the addition of Zr ion into composite.

Composite membranes based on sulfonated poly(aryl ether) sulfone (SPAES) with different sulfated zirconia nanoparticles ($s-ZrO_2$) ratio are synthesized and investigated for the improvement of the hydration and the proton conductivity at high temperature and no humidification for fuel cell applications. X-ray diffraction technique is employed to characterize the structure and the size of $s-ZrO_2$ nanoparticles. The sulfation effect of $s-ZrO_2$ nanoparticles is verified by FT-IR analysis. The properties of the SPAES composite membranes with the various $s-ZrO_2$ ratio are evaluated by ion exchange capacity and water content. The proton conductivities of the composite membranes are estimated at room temperature with full hydration and at the various high temperature without external humidification. The composite membrane with 5 wt% $s-ZrO_2$ shows the highest proton conductivity. The proton conductivities are $0.9292\;S\;cm^{-1}$ at room temperature with full hydration and $0.0018\;S\;cm^{-1}$ at $120^{\circ}C$ without external humidification, respectively.
The pretreatment condition for uniform distribution of SiC whisker in A2O3-SiCw composites has been determined and the mechanical properties of the composites with various whisker contents have been measured. Good dispersion of the whisker can be obtained in a solution of pH=10.45 by ball milling and ultrasonic treatment. The relative density of hot pressed composites decreases with the whisker content up to 40vol%, but is found to be satisfactory, over 98% for all samples. The mechanical property of the composites is sensitive to the whisker dispersion. Uniform distributjion of the whisker is critical in order to guarantee good mechanical property. The samples containing 20~30vol% whisker show the best mechanical property within the studied range.
The SiC/MoSi2 composite materials were fabricated by infiltrating the mixture of molybdenum disilicide and metal silicon(MoSi2+Si=100) to a porous compact of silicon carbide and graphite under the vacuum atmosphere of 10-1 torr. The specimen were oxidized in dry air under 1 atm at 130$0^{\circ}C$~150$0^{\circ}C$ for 240 hours. The oxidation behavior was evaluated by the weight gain and loss per unit area of the oxidized samples. Also, SEM and XRD analysis of the oxidized surface of the samples were carried out. With increasing the MoSi2 content and oxidation temperature, the passive oxidation was found. The trend of weight gain of all samples was followed the parabolic rate law with the formation of a protective layer of cristobalite on the surface.
Porous composite of $Al_2O_3$ and AIN based mullite and SiC can be prepared by alumium reaction synthesis and atmosphere controllied sintering in order to improve the durability of a gas filter body. The porous $Al_2O_3$-AIN-mullite, which has a strength of 168 kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$ and porosity of 51.59%, could be obtained by stmospheric firing at $1600^{\circ}C$ and the porous $Al_2O_3$-AIN-SiC with a porosity of 33% and strength of 977 kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$, could also be prepared. The average pore size has been changed from 0.2$\mu\textrm{m}$ in a reduction atmosphere and to 2$\mu\textrm{m}$ in an air atmosphere, respectively.
The pack-cementation process is the method which is formed SiC coating layer to improve weak oxidation properties of CFRCs (carbon fiber-reinforced carbons). This method develops the anti-oxidation coating layer having no dimensional changes and good wetting properties. In this study to improve the oxidative resistance of the prepared 4D CFRCs, the surface of CFRCs is coated by SiC using pack cementation method. The mechanical properties of SiC-coated 4D CFRCs are measured by the 3-point bending test, and their ablation properties are investigated by the arc torch plasma test. From the results, it is found that both mechanical and ablation properties of SiC-coated 4D CFRCs are much better than bare CFRCs.
Tribologcal property of the ceramics used in severe condition was investigated and both $Al_2O_3$ ball and Al/SiC composite made by thermal spray process[TSP] were used as a specimen in this study. Four kinds of material couple in ball and disk specimens were tested in the dry condition by using ball-on-disk type tribo-tester. Friction coefficient, surface roughness, wear rate, and photograph of the worn surface were investigated. Generally, High SiC contents[$40{\sim}50%$] specimens showed very low friction coefficient below 0.05 and little wear rate in dry condition. And also, low SiC contents[0%] specimens showed a moderate wear rate and high coefficient of friction at the same condition.
