In this study, we have investigated microstructure, mechanical properties and wear characteristic of aluminum metal matrix composites with a high volume fraction and uniformly dispersed SiC particles which produced by a liquid pressing process. The volume fraction of bimodal SiC/Al7075 composite was 12% higher than that of the monomodal SiC/Al7075 composite and a compressive strength is increased about 200 MPa. As a result of the abrasion test, the wear width and depth of the bimodal SiC/Al7075 composite were $285.1{\mu}m$ and $0.45{\mu}m$, respectively. The coefficient of friction of bimodal SiC/Al7075 was 0.16.
$Si_3N_4/Sic$. nano-composites were fabricated by hot-pressing, gas pressure sintering. The composites contained up to 50 wt. % of SiC. The mechanical properties such as strength, toughness, and hardness of the composite are compared each other. The flexural strength of the composites was improved significantly by introducing fine SiC particles into $Si_3N_4$ matrix, while the fracture toughness was not improved. The increase in flexural strength is attributed to the formation of uniformly elongated $\beta -Si_3N_4$ grains as well as the reduction of grain size.
Composite powder of$B_4C-A1_2O_3$was prepared from a mixed powder of$B_2O_3/A1/C$by SHS under argon pressure instead of using a chemical furnace. A mixture of$B_2O_3,$Al and C powder (equivalent amounts to the reaction,$2B_2O_3+4A1+C=B_4C+2A1_2O_3)$was ball milled for 2 h. The mixed powder was placed in a SHS reactor and filled with 10 atm of argon gas and ignited. The inner and outer products were the same by XRD analysis. It was consisted of a composite powder of$B_4C-A1_2O_3$without $AlB_{12}/C_2$which was always produced using a chemical furnace. The composite powder was about$60~100{mu}m$size which was composed of crystalline particles of about 0.3~l${mu}m$size. But when 15 atm of argon was employed, partial sintering took place to give rise hard composite powder of$15~25{mu}m$$B_4C$with $0.1~0.2{mu}m$$A1_2O_3.$
Hi-Nicalon SiC fiber reinforced SiC composites (SiC/SiC) have been fabricated by the reaction sintering process. Braided Hi-Nicalon SiC fiber with double interphases of BN and SiC was used in this composite system. The microstructures and the mechanical properties of reaction sintered SiC/SiC composites were investigated through means of electron microscopies (SEM, TEM, EDS) and bending tests. The matrix morphology of reaction sintered SiC/SiC composites was composed of the SiC phases that the composition of the silicon and the carbon is different. The TEM analysis showed that the residual silicon and the unreacted carbon were finely distributed in the matrix region of reaction sintered SiC/SiC composites. Reaction sintered SiC/SiC composites also represented proper flexural strength and fracture energy, accompanying the noncatastrophic failure behavior.
In this study, TiC ceramic particulate reinforced steel composites was fabricated using a liquid pressing infiltration process. Studies were conducted on microstructure analysis and basic physical properties such as hardness and corrosion characteristics in salt water environment for comparison with commercial nodular cast iron. As a result of comparison of corrosion characteristics in a salt water environment, both corrosion potential and corrosion current density were lower than that of ductile graphite cast iron. The lower calculated corrosion rate confirms that the TiC-Fe metal composite has superior corrosion resistance than the cast iron.

The efficiency of complex slurry preparation route for the development of high performance RS-SiCf/SiC composites has been investigated. The green bodies for RS-SiC and RS-SiCf/SiC composite materials prior to the infiltration of molten silicon were prepared with various C/SiC complex matrix slurries, which associated with both different sizes of starting SiC particles and blending ratios of starting SiC and carbon particles. The reinforcing materials in the composite system were uncoated and C coated Tyranno SA SiC fiber. The characterization of RS-SiC and RS-SiCf/SiC composite materials was examined by means of SEM, EDS and three point bending test. Based on the mechanical property-microstructure correlation, process optimization methodology is discussed.

Cf/SiC composites have low density, high mechanical strength, and good thermal stability, making them promising materials for high-temperature applications such as rocket propulsion and military fields. However, the remaining Si deteriorates physical and thermal properties. In this paper, the de-siliconization was introduced as a method to remove the Si of the Cf/SiC composite fabricated through Liquid Silicon Infiltration(LSI) process. The stability of composite has been tested under an oxyacetylene torch flame for up to 5 minutes. The oxidized surface and cross section of specimens were characterized by 3D scanning, X-ray diffraction(XRD), Optical microscope(OM) and Scanning electron microscope(SEM).

The Fe-based self-fluxing alloy powders and TiC particles were ball-milled and subsequently compacted and sintered at various temperatures, resulting in the TiC particle-reinforced Fe self-fluxing alloy hybrid composite, and the microstructure and micro-hardness were investigated. The initial Fe-based self-fluxing alloy powders and TiC particles showed the spherical shape with a mean size of approximately 80 ${\mu}m$ and the irregular shape of less than 5 ${\mu}m$, respectively. After ball-milling at 800 rpm for 5 h, the powder mixture of Fe-based self-fluxing alloy powders and TiC particles formed into the agglomerated powders with the size of approximately 10 ${\mu}m$ that was composed of the nanosized TiC particles and nano-sized alloy particles. The TiC particle-reinforced Fe-based self-fluxing alloy hybrid composite sintered at 1173 K revealed a much denser microstructure and higher micro-hardness than that sintered at 1073 K and 1273 K.
The electrochemical performances of anode composites comprising elemental silicon (Si), silicon monoxide (SiO), and graphite (C) were investigated. The composite devoid of elemental silicon (SiO:C = 1:1) and its carbon coated composite showed reduced capacity degradation with measured values of 606 and 584 mAh/g at the fiftieth cycle. The capacity retention nature when the composites were cycled followed the order of Si:SiO:C = 3:1:4 < Si:SiO:C = 2:2:4 < SiO:C = 1:1 < SiO:C = 1:1 (carbon coated). A comparison of the capacity retention properties for the composites in terms of the silicon content showed that a reduced silicon content increased the stability of the composite electrodes. Even though the carbon-coated composite delivered low capacity during cycling compared to the other composites, its low capacity degradation made the anode a better choice for lithium ion batteries.
In the present study, the focus is on the synthesis of titanium carbide/cobalt composite powder by the spray thermal conversion process using metallic salt solution as the raw materials. Two types of oxide powders of Ti-Co-O system were prepared by the spray drying of two types of metallic salt solutions : titanium chloride-cobalt nitrate and $TiO_2$ powder-cobalt nitrate solutions. These oxide powders were mixed with carbon black, and then these mixtures were carbothermal reduced under a flowing argon atmosphere. The changes in the phase structure and thermal gravity of the mixtures during carbothermal reduction were analysed using XRD and TG-DTA. In the case of using the titanium chloride-cobalt nitrate solution, it could not be obtained TiC/Co composite powder due to contamination of the impurities during the spray drying of the solution. However, in tile case of using the $TiO_2$ powder-cobalt nitrate scullion, TiC-15 wt. %Co composite powder could be synthesized by the spray thermal conversion process. The synthesized TiC-15 wt. %Co composite powder at 120$0^{\circ}C$ for 2 hours has average particle size of 150 nm.
