강교량 맞대기용접 결함부의 피로수명 평가 (Fatigue Life Assessment of Steel Bridge Butt Joint Weld with Defects)

  • There are many weld defects such as surface crack, lack of fusion, and incomplete penetration(IP) in the butt joint weld of the existing steel bridges. The crack-like defects may significantly reduce the life of the structure. This paper presents the procedure and the results of the fatigue life assessment of the butt joints with weld defects in the existing steel girder bridge. The butt joint welds with incomplete penetration were instrumented with strain gages to determine the stress histogram under normal traffic. Based on the measured stress histogram the crack propagation analysis were performed for the fatigue life assessment. By using the suggested procedure and methodology, one can decide the time of periodic inspection and the necessity of repair of the butt joint welds with serious weld defects in the existing steel bridge.   • Since a butt Joint is smaller than a lap type joint, it is expected to have smaller AC losses. The butt joint is produced by the diffusion bonding of the contacting surface under pressured and heated condition. It is important to find robust joining conditions, because butt joint has small contact area and has the shape by which the quality of bonding is hard to be checked. In this research, the loading pressure is considered as the joining parameter to find optimum joining condition. The DC resistance of the joint may be changed by the surface pressure during joining process, because the superconducting strands near the contact surface are failed by large plastic deformation. The range from 10 MPa to 18 MPa is expected optimum surface pressure in the conditions of 1 hour heating time and $750^{\circ}C$ temperature in the vacuum furnace.

교량의 피로강도를 고려한 맞대기용접부 불안전용입 한계결함 결정에 관한 연구 (An Experimental Study on Allowable Size of Incomplete Penetration in Butt Joint Bridge Weld Considering Fatigue Strength)

  • The incomplete penetration(IP) discontinuity in butt joint weld, which is detected during safety analysis of the steel bridge by nondestructive evaluation(NDE) method, is classified as unacceptable defect according to the NDE codes and standards. In fact, there are a little allowance in butt joint weld in the view point of design criterion, and also detected IP discontinuity should be classified and evaluated for the fatigue strength and residual life estimation. In this study, we performed fatigue test to evaluate the fatigue strength of high strength steel(SWS490A) containing IP discontinuities in various size, the results compared and classified according to the bridge construction standard specification which published by korea administration of construction and traffic. Experimental results could be used to evaluate and estimate the IP discontinuities considering different stress range in butt joint bridge weld during periodic safety inspection.

집성재의 정거길이가 휨강도성능에 미치는 영향 (The Effect of Finger Length on Bending Strength Properties in Laminated Wood)

  • This paper describes the bending strength properties of laminated woods which had three kinds of specimens according to finger length-12, 4.5 mm and butt joint and the acoustic emissions (AEs) generated during the test. 3-ply laminated wood beams were tension side layers (lower layers) composed of one middle lamina and two side-jointed laminae, with one butt joint ($_1BJ$), one finger joint (12mm, $_1FJ_{12}$) or one finger joint (4.5mm, $_1FJ_{4.5}$) in the middle lamina of tension side layer. And 3-ply laminated wood beams were tension side layers (lower layers) also composed of one lamina, with one butt joint (BJ), one finger joint (12mm, $FJ_{12}$) or one finger joint (4.5mm, $FJ_{4.5}$/) in tension side layer. Cryptomelia pieces were cut for butt and two finger types and glued with resorcinol-phenol resin adhesive. The results were as follows It was not effective in the bending modulus of elasicity (MOE) with IFJL type and had no difference from finger length. The bending modulus of rupture (MOR) of laminated wood beams including finger joint was the same values as that including butt feint and had no difference from finger length. It was effective in MOE with FJL type and had no difference from finger length. The effect of finger joint on MOR was much higher than that of butt joint but had no difference from finger length. The AE generation time of IFJL type was earlier than that of the control wood and the number of AE count was much more than that of the control wood. However, the AE generation time of FJL type was earlier than that of the control wood and the number of U count was much fewer than that of the control wood.

  • Flash butt weldability of 590MPa dual phase steel is carried out under micro metallographical examination and macro mechanical property tests. The objective of present study is to investigate the cause that brings on bond line fracture, and is to improve mechanical properties of the flash butt welded joint. The joint of flash butt welding has a superior tensile property, but has bad formability due to oxide formed at bond interface. The HAZ softening in the weld joint does not show. It was found that mechanical properties were increased with optimizing welding parameters and making application of oil dripping and post-weld heat treatment.

  • The paper shows properties such as vickers hardness, yielding and ultimate stresses for the weld zone of the butt and the lap jointed specimens, and compare maximum loads, stress-strain curves, deformation appearance after guided bending test and fracture appearance for butt and lap jointed specimens. The research in this experiment also shows the weldability of the butt joint specimen is better than that of the lap joint specimen using FSW with $2mm^{t}$ aluminum alloy sheet in milling machine.

  • 본 연구에서는 층재 수종과 길이방향의 합판 접합방식과 접합부의 접착제 도포 여부에 따른 휨 성능 및 파괴 양상 분석을 통하여 합판을 코어로 사용한 CLT에 적합한 합판의 접합 방식을 최적화 하고자 하였다. 더글라스 퍼 층재의 경우 길이방향 접합에 의해 휨탄성계수 약 11.5% 감소, 휨강도는 접착제 도포 및 접합방식에 따라 증가 또는 감소하였다. 접착제 미도포 butt joint, 접착제 도포 half lap joint, butt joint 조건이 최적조건으로 도출 되었다. 낙엽송 층재의 경우 길이방향 접합에 의해 휨강도는 약 15%, 휨탄성계수는 약 40% 감소하였으며 접합방식에 따른 차이를 나타내지 않았다. half lab joint와 tongue & groove joint 사용 시 합판 층의 접합부에서 휨에 파괴를 1차적으로 방지해줌으로써 중층의 층재로 전달되는 하중을 감소시켜 주는 것으로 판단된다. 본 연구 결과를 통해 Ply-lam CLT 제조과정에서 낙엽송 층재를 사용하는 경우 접합방법에 따른 차이를 나타내지 않았으며 더글라스퍼 층재를 사용할 경우 butt joint와 half lap 접합 방식이 적합할 것으로 판단된다.
