  • In this paper, we proposed a multi-viewer system with multiple HD cameras based AVB(Audio Video Bridge) ethernet cable using IP networking, and FPGA(Xilinx Zynq 702) for bus safety systems. This AVB (IEEE802.1BA) system can be designed for the low latency based on FPGA, and transmit real-time with HD video and audio signals in a vehicle network. The proposed multi-viewer platform can multiplex H.264 video signals from 4 wide-angle HD cameras with existed ethernet 1Gbps. and 2-wire 100Mbps cables. The design of Zynq 702 based low latency to H.264 AVC CODEC was proposed for the minimization of time-delay in the HD video transmission of car area network, too. And the performance of PSNR(Peak Signal-to-noise-ratio) was analyzed with the reference model JM for encoding and decoding results in H.264 AVC CODEC. These PSNR values can be confirmed according the theoretical and HW result from the signal of H.264 AVC CODEC based on Zynq 702 the multi-viewer with multiple cameras. As a result, proposed AVB multi-viewer platform with multiple cameras can be used for the surveillance of audio and video around a bus for the safety due to the low latency of H.264 AVC CODEC design.

  • The software components of embedded control systems get extremely complex as they are designed into distributed systems get extremely complex as they are designed into distributed systems consisting of a large number of inexpensive microcontrollers interconnected by low-bandwidth real-time networks such as the controller area network (CAN). While recently emerging middleware technologies such as CORBA and DCOM address the complexity of distributed programming, they cannot be directly applied to distributed control system design due to their excessive resource demand and inadequate communication models. In this paper, we propose a CORBA-based middleware design for CAN-based distributed embedded control systems. Our design goal is to minimize its resource need and make it support group communication without losing the IDL (interface definition language) level compliance to the OMG standards. To achieve this, we develop a transport protocol on the CAN and a group communication scheme based on the well-known publisher/subscriber model. The protocol effectively realizes subject-based addressing and supports anonymous publisher/subscriber communication. We also customize the method invocation and message passing protocol, referred to as the general inter-ORB protocol (GIOP), of CORBA so that CORBA method invocations are efficiently serviced on a low-bandwidth network such as the CAN. This customization includes packed data encoding and variable-length integer encoding for compact representation of IDL data types. We have implemented our CORBA-based middleware on the mArx real-time operating system we have developed at Seoul National University. Our experiments clearly demonstrate that it is feasible to use CORBA in developing distributed embedded control systems possessing severe resource limitations. Our design clearly demonstrates that it is feasible to use a CORBA-based middleware in developing distributed embedded systems on real-time networks possessing severe resource limitations.

  • As semiconductor process rapidly developed, the density of chips becomes higher and the space between adjacent lines narrows smaller. This trend increases the capacitance and inductance in interconnects and the coupling-capacitance of adjacent lines grows even bigger than the self-capacitance of themselves, especially in global interconnects. Inductive and capacitive coupling observed in these phenomena may cause serious problems in signal integrity. This paper proposes a codeword generation technique using extra interconnect lines to reduce the crosstalk caused by inductive and capacitive coupling and to reduce dynamic power consumption considering probability of input data. To estimate the performance of the proposed technique, the experimental results have been obtained using FastCap, FastHenry and HSPICE, and it has been shown that the power consumption using the proposed technique has yielded approximately 15% less than the results of the previous technique.

  • Recently smart devices which combine traditional electronic devices and personal computers, such as smart phones and smart TV, have caught people's eyes from all over the world. A multi-media SoC platform which embeds not only a calculating processor but also an operating system could provide an user-customized environment of several types of communication methods to PC or Internet. In this paper, we describe a multi-functioning SoC platform with video, audio and other communicating protocols based on Core-A processor and AMBA buses. To verify the designed multi-media SoC platform, JPEG decoding and ADPCM encoding/decoding algorithms are applied on it and the final decoding results are confirmed by video monitors and audio speakers.

  • This paper proposes real-time video transmission system by the car-mounted cameras based on MOST Network. Existing vehicles transmit videos by connecting the car-mounted cameras in the form of analog. However, the increase in the number of car-mounted cameras leads to development of the network to connect the cameras. In this paper, DSP is applied to process MPEG 2 encoding/decoding for real-time video transmission in a short period of time. MediaLB is employed to transfer data stream between DSP and MOST network controller. During this procedure, DSP cannot transport data stream directly from MediaLB. Therefore, FPGA is used to deliver data stream transmitting MediaLB to DSP. MediaLB is designed to streamline hardware/software application development for MOST Network and to support all MOST Network data transportation methods. As seen in this paper, the test results verify that real-time video transmission using proposed system operates in a normal matter.
