Surgical Treatment of Bronchopulmonary Foregut Malformation in Adults (성인에서 발견된 폐기관지 전장기형[bronchopulmonary foregut malformation]의 수술요법)

  • Abnormalities of ventral foregut budding have been classified as "Bronchopulmonary Foregut Malformation[BPFM]". Two cases of this unusual malformation are presented. The first case was that of a 48-year-old male with a history of hemoptysis and fever. He had intralobar sequestration, located in the right lower lobe and the posterior segment of the right upper lobe, communicated with the lower esophageal fistula. The sequestrated lobe received its blood supply from anormalous feeding artery from the descending thoracic aorta. The second case was that of a 42-year-old woman with intralobar sequestration that communicated with the lower esophagus. The intralobar sequestration was located in the superior segment of the right lower lobe, and in this case, the abnormal feeding artery could not be found. In both cases, there were no other combined congenital anomalies. They were managed with surgical resection successfully and followed up without any significant complications.lications.

Pleiotropic Effects of Caffeine Leading to Chromosome Instability and Cytotoxicity in Eukaryotic Microorganisms

  • Caffeine, a methylxanthine analog of purine bases, is a compound that is largely consumed in beverages and medications for psychoactive and diuretic effects and plays many beneficial roles in neuronal stimulation and enhancement of anti-tumor immune responses by blocking adenosine receptors in higher organisms. In single-cell eukaryotes, however, caffeine somehow impairs cellular fitness by compromising cell wall integrity, inhibiting target of rapamycin (TOR) signaling and growth, and overriding cell cycle arrest caused by DNA damage. Among its multiple inhibitory targets, caffeine specifically interacts with phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI3K)-related kinases causing radiosensitization and cytotoxicity via specialized intermediate molecules. Caffeine potentiates the lethality of cells in conjunction with several other stressors such as oxidants, irradiation, and various toxic compounds through largely unknown mechanisms. In this review, recent findings on caffeine effects and cellular detoxification schemes are highlighted and discussed with an emphasis on the inhibitory interactions between caffeine and its multiple targets in eukaryotic microorganisms such as budding and fission yeasts.

  • This paper focuses on the aesthetic ideology and aesthetic style embodied in the work of 'Blue is the Warmest Color' to dissect it and examine the identity and construction of identity as a minority group in a postmodern context. Blue is the Warmest Color is a film that focuses on homosexual emotions in adolescent development, showing the budding love and emotional orientation of a 15-year-old girl's adolescence, and the ecstsy and torment that comes with an awakened consciousness. The evolutionary process of the characters' emotional orientations is dissected, pointing out that the central theme of the film is the concern for fluid identity and self-identity. Through the narrative and the setting of the characters' emotional patterns and the "Body Writing" of women, this paper further examine the typical variability and fragmentation of postmodern identity, and interpret in detail the content, messages and effects of the characters' dialogues in the film to illustrate the way in which the work expresses class and identity differences. The research method is based on textual analysis and theoretical research.

Description of unrecorded wild yeasts from soil in Republic of Korea under cold conditions

  • The purpose of this study was to isolate and identify wild yeasts from soil collected in Daegu City and Cheongyang County, Republic of Korea. Among 11 strains isolated in this study, nine strains were previously reported and two strains were unreported in Republic of Korea. To identify wild yeast strains, pairwise sequence comparisons of the D1/D2 region of the 26S rRNA gene sequence were done using Basic Local Alignment Search Tool (BLAST). The cell morphologies were observed by phase contrast microscope and assimilation test are done using API 20C AUX kit. All strains were assigned to the phylum Basidiomycota. Of the two unrecorded yeast strains, CY-9-10C belongs to the genus Mrakia (family Mrakiaceae, order Cystofilobasidiales, class Tremellomycetes) and PG3-4-10C belongs to the genus Slooffia (family Chrysozymaceae, order Microbotryomycetes incertae sedis, class Microbotryomycetes). Both strains had oval-shaped and polar budding cells. This research described the morphological and biochemical properties of the two unreported yeast species that had not officially reported in Korea.

The two unrecorded yeast strains, PG2-2-10C and DJ2-14-10C, belong to the genus Holtermanniella (family Holtermanniaceae, order Holtermanniales, class Tremellomycetes) and Goffeauzyma (family Filobasidiaceae, order Filobasidiales, class Tremellomycetes), respectively. The two unrecorded yeast strains had oval shape and polar budding cells. This research describers the morphological and biochemical properties of the two unreported yeast species that had not officially reported in Korea.

This research showed the morphological and biochemical properties of the two unreported yeast species that had not officially reported in Korea.

Among the 13 isolated strains, 11 strains were previously reported, but two strains have never been reported from Republic of Korea. The 13 strains were assigned to the phylum Basidiomycota. The two unrecorded yeast strains B2UV-201 and DJ1-5-B-10C belong to the genera Rhodotorula and Rhodosporidiobolus, respectively. The two unrecorded yeast strains are oval shaped and polar budding cells. This research focuses on the morphological and biochemical properties of the two unreported yeast species that have not officially been reported in Korea.
