  • In these days, the deterioration of bridges make it necessary for decks to be replaced and it is inevitable to apply the precast decks to minimize the traffic control induced from the deck placement. This precast deck construction makes the physically discontinuous interface between old and new concrete. Usually, the adhesive force at this interface are ignored. However, for crack behavior and reliable long term behavior, it is required to evaluate the exact value of the cohesive force at the interface. This research investigates the cohesive characteristics at the interface. Four different interface surface conditions are tested and three different methods are used to measure the cohesive strength at the interface. In addition, cohesive characteristic at the surface between precast panels are investigated with different interface surface conditions.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of acid fog on the rust formation behavior of weathering steel (SMA50) which is used in un-coated bridges. Weathering steel didn't form the passive film under the environment of acid fog(pH5,6), whereas the environment of distilled water formed the protective oxide film. Therefore, the construction of weathering steel under the environment extremely exposed to SOx and NOx which are the main compositions of acid fog is not adequate. Fatigue limits of weathering steel under acid fog environment are remarkably decreased as compared with environment of distilled water. The corrosive constituents in acid fog has piled up the corrosion products on specimen surface and generated the corrosion pits. Because of the high stress concentration arising at this corrosion pit, relatively low fatigue limits were obtained for acid fog specimens.

  • Jointless bridge is a new construction method applicable to bridge of short length. In the jointless bridge expansion of superstructure due to thermal effect was absorbed in the flexible pile-type abutment in stead of expansion joint in the conventional bridges. By removing expansion joint, it retards deterioration and extends life time of bridge. In this paper, jointless bridge of steel box girder type was studied through finite element analysis. Stress variations of superstructure and pile due to thermal effect was studied for the two span continuous integral bridge of 80m length and the results of analysis was presented.

  • Overloaded Vehicles are one of biggest of hazard in durability decrease of roads and bridges. Thus, regulation was put in force about overloaded vehicles to reserve this problem. However, existing system had many problems. For these reasons, this paper presents solutions of U-intelligent overload vehicles regulation system based on manless and wireless for fixing of problems of existing system and construction of ITS. With this in mind, we studied about composition method of system. applications of USN, design of system controller, WCDMA/HSDPA, etc in this paper.

  • This paper presents an analytical prediction of Nonlinear characteristics of prestressed concrete bridges by strengthened of externally tendon considering the work sequence, using beam-column element based on flexibility method and tendon element. The beam-column element was developed with reinforced concrete material nonlinearities which are based on the smeared crack concept. The fiber hysteresis rule of beam-column element is derived from the uniaxial constitutive relations of concrete and reinforcing steel fibers. The tendon element represent the bonded tendon and unbonded tendon behaviors. Beam-column element and tendon element was be subroutine A computer program, named RCAHEST (Reinforced Concrete Analysis in Higher Evaluation System Technology), for the analysis of RC and PSC structures was used. The proposed numerical method for prestressed concrete structures by strengthened of externally tendon is verified by comparison with reliable experimental results.

  • Stepped I-beams having increased moment of inertia at one end(singly stepped beam) or both ends(doubly stepped beams) can often be seen in construction of bridges due to material economy and easy fabrication of the section. This paper presents the results of the parametric study of lateral torsional buckling of monosymmetric stepped I-beams with constant depth subjected to equal and opposite end moments applied at the end of the beam. Design recommendations were made based on the finite element results of the models having different combinations of monosymmetric ratio, stepped length ratio, flange thickness ratio and flange width ratio,. The proposed approximation is acceptable based on the parameters given having mostly conservative results. The proposed equation can be further used to extend the study to different loading conditions.

  • A new type of girder named as Steel-Confined Prestressed Concrete Girder(SCP Girder) has been developed, which is composed of concrete, steel plate, and prestressing tendon. This girder may maximize structural advantages of these components, therefore it can be used to construct the middle or long span bridge with low-height girder. To verify the propriety of design, structural safety, and applicability of this girder, static load test was carried out. In this study, a design program was developed for practical design of railway bridge using SCP girder. And to verify the applicability of SCP girder to railway bridge, structural performance and economic efficiency based on the construction cost were compared with conventional railway bridges.

  • This study is to present a design method using continuous tendons in IPC girders. Present design methods use just concrete to make continuity between girders. In these design methods cracks occur in almost every joint area of girders. This means that these girders act as simple beam instead of continuous beams. The design method which is presented here uses continuous tendons between girders. In this method the cracks could be restrained. So the girders behave as continuous beams, which this method allows the span length gets longer than simple girders and also the section height could get lower. In this way the number of piers and the weight of super structure could be reduced which means the construction cost could also be reduced.

  • Since Ganter Bridge in switzerland was constructed in 1980, many extradosed bridge, especially not covered by concrete, have constructed in Japan. From the end of 1990's, Korea, the demands for the new-stylied and symbolized bridge had raised and extradosed bridge is applied in midspan bridges. The purpose of this paper is to introduce the constructional technique of the Extradosed Bridge, named Nok San Bridge in Pusan, Korea. Nok San Bridge is the first one of the several bridge used by the patterns of external tendons in Korea.

  • In recent years, advances in construction techniques and materials have given rese to flexible light-weight structures like high-rise buildings and long-span bridges. Because these structures extremely susceptible to environmental loads, such as earthquakes and strong winds, these random loadings usually produce large deflection and acceleration on these structures. Vibration control system of structures are becoming an integral part of the structural system of the next generation of tall building. The proposed control system is applied to single degree of structure with mass damping and compared with conventional PID and neural network PID control system.
