A new spray chrysanthemum (Dendranthema grandiflorum) cultivar "Green Witch" was developed from a cross between 'S04161' and 'S04109' by selection of seedlings and lines at the Flower Research Institute, Gyeongnam Agricultural Research and Extension Services (ARES) from 2004 to 2008. Its characteristics were investigated three times from 2006 to 2008 under condition of forcing culture in spring and retarding culture in autumn. The natural flowering time of "Green Witch" was October 19th, and year-round production was possible by day length treatment. Its capitulum was 3.2cm in diameter, and had 15.9 head per stem in autumn. Its ray floret was green central zone. To flower in the short day condition, for "Green Witch" was about 44 days in spring, and "Green Witch" showed the vase life of 25.3 days in autumn. This cultivar was registered for a commercialization in 2008.
A new spary chrysanthemum (Dendranthema grandiflorum) cultivar 'Eye Ball' was developed from a cross between 'Rima' and 'Yen' followed by selections of seedlings and lines at the Flower Rearch Institute, Gyeongnam Agricultural Research and Extension Services (ARES) from 2002 to 2006. Its characteristics were investigated three times from 2004 to 2006 under forcing culture in spring and retarding culture in autumn. The natural flowering time of 'Eye Ball' was October 20th, but year-round production was possible by shading and lighting. Its flower was 3.1cm in diameter, and had 38.4 petals and 26.8 flowers per stem in autumn. Its petal was narrow (0.4 cm) and pink with green in color at the flower center. To flower in the short day condition, for 'Eye Ball' was about 47 days in spring, and 'Eye Ball' showed a vase life of 20.9 days in autumn. This cultivar was registered for a commercialization in 2007. 'Eye Ball' would be cultured under the greenhouse and rain shelter condition in Korea.
Morphometric relationships, condition factor (CF) and reproductive biology are significant tools in fish stock management, fish biology, physiology, conservation and ecology. Growth and reproductive strategy of Oreochromis niloticus were studied from 343 fish specimens collected from Lake Shala between January and December 2018. Fish samples ranged from 7.7 cm to 33.0 cm in total length (TL) and from 7.80 g to 708.21 g in total weight (TW) were collected using gillnets of 4, 6, 8, 10, and 12 mm mesh sizes. The length-weight relationship of O. niloticus was TW = 0.0104TL3.19, indicating positive allometric growth of the fish. The sex ratio (0.93:1) was insignificant from the ideal fish distribution of 1:1 (χ2 = 0.47, p > 0.05). Mean CF for males, females and combined sexes was 1.04, 1.06 and 1.05, respectively and statistically insignificant (p > 0.05). The spawning peak occurred in July (rainy) and February (dry) periods, as defined by ripe females and the breeding season. Absolute mean fecundity was 806 eggs and correlated positively with TL and TW of the fish (p < 0.05) (F = 0.56TL2.29, R2 = 0.93, p < 0.05; F = 18.83TW0.67, R2 = 0.90, p < 0.05). The study provides the first detailed account of the morphometric relationships and reproductive biology of O. niloticus in Lake Shala, which can be used as baseline information for successive biological-based studies in Soda Lakes of Ethiopia.
A new silkworm variety 'Yangwonjam'for both of spring and autumn rearing season is F$_1$hybrid between Jam 143, a Japanese race bred from H5R1/P8503 and Jam 144, a Chinese race from M8312/8190. This is the first both parent sex-limited larval marking variety in Korea, and which contributes to eggs production of F$_1$hybrid silkworm with saving labor. Jam 143, Japanese parent of the 'Yangwonjam'showed high GCA in pupation percentage and Jam 144, Chinese parent showed high GCA in pupation percentage and single cocoon weight. In the local adaptability test performed at 8 local areas in spring of 1998, Yangwonjam records 1% higher in pupation percentage and 5%, 4% lower in single cocoon weight, cocoon yield from 10,000 3rd molted larvae respectively than the check variety Kumokjam. Also in the resistance test against unfavorable rearing condition performed in spring of 1997, Yangwonjam records 9%, 14% lower in single cocoon weight, cocoon shell weight respectively than the check variety, but showed 1% higher in pupation percentage than check variety.
Fifth one Nili-Ravi dairy buffaloes in their last two months of gestation, were selected in NWFP Pakistan. Rectal palpation was carried out fortnightly, until the occurrence of first estrus. Ovulation was confirmed per rectum and milk progesterone levels (MPL). Body condition score (BCS)was recorded weekly. Milk samples were collected weekly for MPL and blood samples fortnightly for metabolites analysis. Milk yield was recorded and samples were collected for milk fat. The buffaloes calving during the normal breeding season (NBS, August to January)had short (p<0.01) postpartum estrus interval of $55.95{\pm}4.90$ days versus $91.15{\pm}11.61 $ days in the buffaloes calving during the low breeding season (LBS, February to July). MPL in the LBS calvers remained lower than NBS calves (p<0.01). The incidence of silent ovulation was higher during LBS as compared to NBS (70.6% versus 29.4%). MPL showed a pattern opposite to atmospheric temperature. In NBS calvers serum glucose levels were higher (p<0.01) and magnesium levels were lower (p<0.01) than LBS calvers. Higher serum urea was found in summer and spring than that autumn and winter (p<0.05). The reproductive performance in buffaloes calving in the LBS coincided with a low BCS (p<0.01). Fat corrected milk production (FCM) was higher in NBS than LBS (p<0.01) calvers.
The aquaculture tank is used for breeding fish in sea water which was pumped up to land. The flow characteristics in the aquaculture were investigated with varying the tank geometry and flow rate. The numerical analysis has been employed for calculating the velocity and temperature distributions in a water tank of rectangular type. The finite volume method and SIMPLE algorithm with 3-dimensional standard $\kappa$-$\varepsilon$ turbulence model were used for the numerical analysis. For comparison with experimental results, the PIV system was applied to visualize the flow patterns quantitatively. The numerical results showed good agreements with the experimental results. The mean velocity and temperature versus aquarium depth were represented for various circulating flow rates. Especially, the aquaculture environment is recommended that the aquarium depth has to be d=0.5 m, and this case is the condition of higher velocity and temperature in winter season.
This research was conducted to grasp the present condition of environmental management relating to Korea detector dogs that performed their duties such as detection and lifesaving. We directly conducted a survey throughout visit to five government agencies. In environmental management case, average length and width of kennels were 1.78 m and 3.50 m, respectively. Types of floor were searched as coating cement, tile, ucrete and concrete. Most of government agencies ventilated kennels using ventilation fan systems with natural ventilation. But there were differences between government agencies in frequencies of the sanitary management items. On the other side, major diseases of the German shepherd breed as a major detector dog were in order of arthritis, measles, earache, and dermatosis. And their daily training time was average 4 hours. Finally, it is thought that these results could be used as a basic data of standard breeding management manual of Korea detector dog.
Six demographic parameters including life span (LS), maturation time (MT), net reproduction rate (Ro), mean generation length (G), innate capacity for increase $(r_m)$ and finite rate of increase $(\gamma)$ were estimated in the rotifer (Brachionus rotundiformis) cultured at three salinities of 5, 20 and 34 PSU and under a constant temperature of $28^{\circ}C$. The maximum life spans at salinities of 5, 20 and 34 PSU were 17, 12 and 13 days, respectively. The shortest maturation time (24 hr) was recorded at 5 PSU, and the rotifer at 20 PSU showed a most delayed maturation (192 hr). The maximum reproduction rate was 42 offspring per female in rotifer cultured at 5 PSU, while the longest generation length (8 days) was observed at 20 PSU. Maximum and minimum values of $r_m$ (1.56 and 0.46 individual per day) and $(\gamma)$ (6.67 and 1.70 individuals per day) were calculated at 5 and 34 PSU, respectively. Salinity also showed strong effect on correlation of the demographic traits examined. ANOVA revealed significant differences (P<0.05) between demographic parameters of the rotifer at the three salinity condition. Considering the higher values of life span, innate capacity and finite rate of increase, and shortest maturation time at 5 PSU, the rotifer we examined had a higher reproductive potential and longer life span at 5 PSU rather than at 20 or 34 PSU.

Purple acid phosphatase is important for phosphorus remobilization in plants, but its role in plant adaptation to low phosphorus availability is not known. The cDNA encoding O. sativa purple acid phosphatase (OsPAP1) has 1008 bp with an open reading frame of 335 amino acid residues. The amino acid sequence of OsPAP1 cDNA shows of 50-51% identity with other plant purple acid phosphatases. OsPAP1 was expressed in rice plants and in cell cultures in the absence of phosphate ($P_i$). The expression was organ-specific with the strongest expression in $P_i$-deprived roots. Functional expression of the OsPAP1 gene in the transgenic Arabidopsis line was confirmed by northern and western blot analysis. OsPAP1 overexpression lines had higher phosphatase activity than wild-type. Overexpression of OsPAP1 in Arabidopsis plants resulted in increased Pi accumulation under Pi sufficient condition. These results show that the OsPAP1 gene represents more efficient $P_i$ uptake and can be used to develop new transgenic dicotyledonous plants.

Brachypodium distachyon is rapidly emerged in biological study and has been currently used as a model system for genetics and functional studies for crop improvement and biofuel production. Phosphinothricin (PPT) has been widely used as a selectable agent, which raises ammonium content and induces toxicity in non-transformed plant cells. However PPT selection is not much effective on Brachypodium callus consequently reducing transformation efficiency. In order to identify the efficient conditions of PPT selection, calli obtained from mature seeds of Brachypodium (PI 254867) were cultured on the callus inducing medium (CIM) or regeneration medium (ReM) containing serial dilutions of the PPT (0, 2, 5, 10, and 15 mg/l) in dark or light condition. Callus growth and ammonium content of each treatment were measured 2 weeks after the treatment. Although callus growth and ammonium content did not show much difference in CIM, slow callus growth and increased ammonium accumulation were found in ReM. No significant difference of ammonium accumulation in response to PPT was found between dark and light conditions. In order to identify major factors affecting increased ammonium accumulation, callus was cultured on the media in combined with phytohormones (2,4-D or kinetin) and carbon sources (sucrose or maltose) containing with PPT (5 mg/l). The highest ammonium content in callus was found in the kinetin and maltose media.
