  • A twenty three year old, Primigravida and 32 week pregnant woman who has been complained dyspnea, chest pain, nausea and vomiting was admitted to this chest surgical department on Feb. 19, 1979. Physical findings were those of acutely ill appearance, decreased thoracic excursion and absence of breath sounds in the left hemithorax. Roentgen examination of the chest revealed reticular cystic densities in the left, particularly in lower lung field with collapse of the left lung. Correction of the diaphragmatic hernia was carried out with reduction and repair of the hernia through transperitoneal approach. On exploration, the defect of the diaphragm was 12 x 12 cm in size and was located posterolateral area of left diaphragm. Hernia contents were stomach, spleen, omentum and splenic flexure of large bowel. The baby was normal full term spontaneous delivered at 36th POD. Diaphragmatic hernia complicated by pregnancy is a rarity and mortality is extremely high. Therefore, the literatures have reviewed and the case is reported.

  • This study examined the characteristics of the relationship of home environment variables and preschool children's intelligence, learning readiness and socio-emotional developments. The subjects of this study were 63 children at age five and their mothers. Instruments included the children's intelligence test, preschool inventory for learning readiness, the socio-emtional rating scale and the inventory of HOME. The data of the present study were analyzed by the statistical methods of Pearson's product-moment correlation coefficient and step-wise multiple regression analysis. The kinds of HOME variables that significantly predict children's intelligence were "need gratification and avoidance of restriction" "quality of language environment" "play materials" "aspects of physical environment" "organization of stable and predictable environment". The variables that significantly predict children's socio-emotional developments were "breath of experience" "fostering maturity and independence" "developmental stimulation". All of the HOME variables were not significantly predict children's learning readiness. The kinds of HOME factors that significantly predict children's intelligence were factor II and factor III. Factor I predicted children's socio-emotional developments significantly. All of the HOME factors were not significantly predicted children's learning readiness.

  • The purpose of this study was to report and discuss the diagnosis and treatment of obstructive atelectasis secondary to pus obstruction in a patient who had developed a maxillofacial abscess, and to review the literature on similar cases. Persistently discharging pus within the oral cavity can act as an aspirate, and may lead to obstructive atelectasis. Additionally, maxillofacial surgery patients should be carefully assessed for the presence of risk factors of obstructive atelectasis, such as, epistaxis after nasotracheal intubation, oral bleeding, and mucus secretion. Furthermore, patients with these risk factors should be continuously followed up by monitoring $SPO_2$, breath sounds, and chest x-ray.

  • In this paper, pseudo-random ternary sequence (PRTS) was used to investigate the cardiovascular and respiratory responses to hypoxia and hypercapnia. The actual input or this study was the changes in inhaled oxygen and carbon dioxide concentrations. It is hard to randomly change the concentration within a given breath. Since PRTS has almost the same statistical properties as Gaussian white noise, plus it is physically realizable, PRTS is used for this study. Using PRTS and Volterra kernels by Gram-Schmidt orthogonalization procedure, the cardiovascular and respiratory responses to hypoxia and hypercapnia were analyzed.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of the Cardiopulmonary function and Blood component to aerobic exercise. This were measured performance for 15 minutes. This study included 14 healthy individuals, 7 males and 7 females who were aged from 19 to 25 years. 1. After exercise heart rate was increased by on average of 93.7 beat/min as compared with rest. 2. Before exercise breath rate increased compared with rest and normal recovery need more 10 minutes. 3. Breathing capacity increased compare before with after perfoming exercise and male was less increase than was female. 4. Blood component(WBC, RBC, HB, HCT) showed aslight increased of difference compare before with after perfoming exercise.

  • In this paper, we presents HIGH-Q learning algorithm with reinforcement learning for more fast and exact topic-directed web spidering. The purpose of reinforcement learning is to maximize rewards from environment, an reinforcement learning agents learn by interacting with external environment through trial and error. We performed experiments that compared the proposed method using reinforcement learning with breath first search method for searching the web pages. In result, reinforcement learning method using future discounted rewards searched a small number of pages to find result pages.

  • In this paper, we designed, constructed and evaluated the system for the FTTH suited to a residence and apartment using CWDM-PON techniques. These systems have capacity to service at 100Mbps rate to 384 users in the same breath. Also, the services include the internet, CATV, IPTV and wireless LAN. In the case of wire network, the data could be transmitted by UTP cable and optical fiber and case of wireless one, the data transmitted using WLAN. The distance between the cental office and the user is 20km and the data rate is 100Mbps maximum. Of course, the optical network used just one fiber optical core. For the basic material, we obtained the characteristics of optical transceiver module, Mux/Demux and transmission qualities depends on the environment.

  • Eisenmenger syndrome (ES) is characterized by pulmonary arterial hypertension and right-to-left shunting. The signs and symptoms of ES include cyanosis, shortness of breath, fatigue, hemoptysis, and sudden death. In patients with ES, it is important that the systemic and pulmonary circulations be properly distributed and maintained. General dental treatment is not known to be particularly dangerous. To control pain and anxiety, local anesthetics without epinephrine are usually recommended. However, in cases of difficulty of cooperation, general anesthesia for dental treatment makes the condition worse. In the present case, intravenous deep sedation with propofol and remifentanil was administered for behavioral management during dental treatment successfully.

  • We present a case study of necrotizing fasciitis (NF), a very rare but dangerous complication of chest tube management. A 69-year-old man with shortness of breath underwent thoracostomy for chest tube placement and drainage with antibiotic treatment, followed by a computed tomography scan. He was diagnosed with thoracic empyema. Initially, a non-cardiovascular and thoracic surgeon managed the drainage, but the management was inappropriate. The patient developed NF at the tube site on the chest wall, requiring emergency fasciotomy and extensive surgical debridement. He was discharged without any complications after successful control of NF. A thoracic surgeon can perform both tube thoracostomy and tube management directly to avoid complications, as delayed drainage might result in severe complications.

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate the general characteristics, oral health risk factors, and denture management behaviors of the elderly and improve their oral health and life satisfaction. Methods: This study was conducted on 386 individuals from elderly welfare facilities in Gyeonggi-do selected by convenience sampling. Results: The female participants were more satisfied with their family relationship than the male participants. Among the risk factors for oral health, life satisfaction was higher among the participants who had no psychological inconvenience and bad breath symptoms. Among the factors for denture management behavior, the participants who did not receive dental checkups regularly expressed greater life satisfaction than those who had not received denture care education. Conclusions: The practical and theoretical implications for elderly welfare programs and oral health management education for denture-wearing elderly were discussed.
