  • Purpose: The use of artificial intelligence (AI) and deep learning algorithms in dentistry, especially for processing radiographic images, has markedly increased. However, detailed information remains limited regarding the accuracy of these algorithms in detecting mandibular fractures. Materials and Methods: This meta-analysis was conducted in accordance with the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. Specific keywords were generated regarding the accuracy of AI algorithms in detecting mandibular fractures on radiographic images. Then, the PubMed/Medline, Scopus, Embase, and Web of Science databases were searched. The Quality Assessment of Diagnostic Accuracy Studies 2 (QUADAS-2) tool was employed to evaluate potential bias in the selected studies. A pooled analysis of the relevant parameters was conducted using STATA version 17 (StataCorp, College Station, TX, USA), utilizing the metandi command. Results: Of the 49 studies reviewed, 5 met the inclusion criteria. All of the selected studies utilized convolutional neural network algorithms, albeit with varying backbone structures, and all evaluated panoramic radiography images. The pooled analysis yielded a sensitivity of 0.971 (95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.881-0.949), a specificity of 0.813 (95% CI: 0.797-0.824), and a diagnostic odds ratio of 7.109 (95% CI: 5.27-8.913). Conclusion: This review suggests that deep learning algorithms show potential for detecting mandibular fractures on panoramic radiography images. However, their effectiveness is currently limited by the small size and narrow scope of available datasets. Further research with larger and more diverse datasets is crucial to verify the accuracy of these tools in in practical dental settings.

  • A total of 262 bacterial strains were isolated from clay minerals, bentonite and zeolite, in Gyeongsangbukdo, Republic of Korea, and their hydrolytic enzyme activities were analyzed. Most of the isolated strains belonged to Micrococcales and Bacillales order. Of strains, 96 strains produced α-amylase activity, 42 strains showed cellulase activity, 111 strains had pectinase activity, and 70 strains showed protease activity. Among them, 177 isolates exhibited one or more of the hydrolytic enzyme activities and in particular Bacillus cereus MBLB1321, B. albus MBLB1326 and KIGAM017, B. mobilis MBLB1328, MBLB1329 and MBLB1330 showed all of the enzyme activities. These results demonstrate the diversity of functional Bacillus species in clay minerals as vital sources for the discovery of industrially valuable hydrolytic enzymes, which have a great commercial prospect in various bio-industrial applications.

  • The air and water flow distribution are experimentally studied for a round header - flat tube geometry simulating a parallel flow heat exchanger. The number of branch flat tube is thirty. The effects of tube outlet direction, tube protrusion depth as well as mass flux, and quality are investigated. The flow at the header inlet is identified as annular. For the downward flow configuration, the water flow distribution is significantly affected by the tube protrusion depth. For flush-mounted configuration, most of the water flows through frontal part of the header. As the protrusion depth increases, more water is forced to the rear part of the header. The effect of mass flux or quality is qualitatively the same as that of the protrusion depth. Increase of the mass flux or quality forces the water to rear part of the header. For the upward flow configuration, however, most of the water flows through rear part of the header. The protrusion depth, mass flux, or quality does not significantly alter the flow pattern. Possible explanations are provided based on the flow visualization results. Negligible difference on the water flow distribution was observed between the parallel and the reverse flow configuration.

  • Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) are becoming increasingly attractive for a variety of applications and have become a hot research area. Routing is a key technology in WSNs and can be coarsely divided into two categories: flat routing and hierarchical routing. In a flat topology, all nodes perform the same task and have the same functionality in the network. In contrast, nodes in a hierarchical topology perform different tasks in WSNs and are typically organized into lots of clusters according to specific requirements or metrics. Owing to a variety of advantages, clustering routing protocols are becoming an active branch of routing technology in WSNs. In this paper, we present an overview on clustering routing algorithms for WSNs with focus on differentiating them according to diverse cluster shapes. We outline the main advantages of clustering and discuss the classification of clustering routing protocols in WSNs. In particular, we systematically analyze the typical clustering routing protocols in WSNs and compare the different approaches based on various metrics. Finally, we conclude the paper with some open questions.

  • The technique of the stellate ganglion block is widely used as it is relatively simple and safe. But it can cause severe complications because there are major blood vessels and nerves around the stellate ganglion. We practiced CPR because of the respiratory failure caused by severe hematoma in the neck following the stellate ganglion block. A 46-year-old male patient admitted to ENT department because of the both sudden sensorineural hearing loss that happened after URI. He was referred to Pain Clinic for further evaluation and treatment. We decided to block the stellate ganglion. We injected 6ml of 0.5% mepivacaine on both sides of the stellate ganglion. There were no blood aspiration and abnormal vital signs during the 30 minute observation, either. Three hours after he went to the private room, he had pain and edema in his neck, but no respiratory defficulty. But later, respiratory failure was suddenly followed. So we practiced CPR. We confirmed severe hematomas in the neck through CT scanning. Hematomas is removed and the ruptured blood vessels which is supposed to be muscular branch of vertebral artery is ligated under general anesthesia. The patient was discharged from hospital after the treatment of pneumonia and duodenal ulcer as complications. We recommand you to compress the block site more than five minutes and not to prick with the needle several times at one point to prevent the formation of hematomas.

  • A gene(lsd1) encoding dextranase from Lipomyces starkeyi KSM22 has been previously cloned, sequenced, and expressed in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The gene consisting of 1,824 base pairs and encoding a protein of 608 amino acids was then cloned into and secretively expressed in Pichia pastoris under the control of the AOX1 promoter. The dextranase productivity of the P. pastoris transformant(pPIC9K-LSD1, 134,000 U/I) was approximately 4.2-fold higher than that of the S. cerevisiae transformant(pYLSD1, 32,000 U/I) cultured in an 8-1 fermentor. Over 0.63 g/l of active dextranase was secreted into the medium after methanol induction. The dextranase of the P. pastoris transformant, as analyzed by SDS-PAGE and Western blotting, showed only one homogeneous band. This dextranase of the P. pastoris transformant showed a broad band near 73 kDa. Rabbit monoclonal antibodies against a synthetic LSD1 peptide mix also recognized approximately 73 kDa.

  • The domestic specialized coffee branch market is growing both in size and sales, and the competition between different brands is increasing. The goal of this study was to divide the customer's consumption motivations into utility usage motivation, hedonic usage motivation, and ostentation usage motivation and to determine how each motivation influences the attitude, satisfaction and loyalty toward the brand. The results can be summarized as follows. (1) Hedonic motivation and ostentation motivation with the exception of utility motivation were shown to have an effect on brand attitude. (2) Brand attitude was shown to have an effect on satisfaction and loyalty. (3) Satisfaction had an effect on loyalty. However, if the satisfaction was low, the intentions for subsequent visits and positive oral transmissions decrease. The result of this study showed that establishing positive brand attitude, satisfaction and loyalty to customers with pleasure and ostentation motivations is effective. Moreover, marketing activities such as cultural and playful events should be emphasized for customers with hedonic motivations, while environments with better atmosphere and careful service should be provided to customers with ostentation motivation.
